Was it vomiting or just nausea? And when did it start/finish? I'm 5 weeks and have some nausea but I have emetophobia and I'm so petrified it's going to get worse and end in full blown vomiting.

I had really bad all day nausea but never threw up, from 6 to 9 weeks roughly!

Chelyanne · 02/02/2021 12:47

I hate being sick too.

I've had terrible nausea with current one, only had one time where I couldn't hold it in. Thankfully it is starting to ease of a bit now at 11+3wk, I'm better earlier in the day and it gets worse afternoon/evening. I hate cooking tea, I feel dreadful with all the smells.

lucymagoo · 02/02/2021 12:50

I just felt like absolute death, no throwing up but a little bit of nausea. My main issue was just feeling incredibly unwell overall rather than specifically nauseous

Bettina500 · 02/02/2021 13:00

I was only sick a couple of times with my third and felt quite well. I was sick several times a day from 6 weeks onwards with my first and second and constantly nauseous. It eased by about 13 weeks with my second though.
It's not nice but I found it a different kind of sick to when you've got a bug. It's not as violent and in smaller amounts.
Keeping my blood sugar stable really helped, eating little and often and not getting empty. Nothing sweet on an empty stomach. Sipping cold drinks also helped.

MsHedgehog · 02/02/2021 13:15

I threw up all day every day from about week 7 to week 11, and then it started to calm down after that. I could barely keep anything down, and when I had an empty stomach, I would just be retching it. It was absolute hell.

After I started to tell people I was pregnant, I found out what I went through wasn't normal at all and I should have gone to the doctor for help and even admitted to hospital because I was so dehydrated. Your GP should help you when you have bad sickness.

NoImagination90210 · 02/02/2021 13:18

All day nausea. Was never sick.

52andblue · 02/02/2021 13:19

all day every day from about 8 weeks until 38 weeks (Csec) with both.
I was lighter when I gave birth than when I conceived both times.
Not fun but not typical I don't think and they were worth it :)

Edelweiss2020 · 02/02/2021 13:19

I had fairly frequent nausea up until about 15 weeks, but only threw up once (I think I was 13 weeks?). Currently 22 weeks and struggling occasionally with heartburn. Fingers crossed you get through without too much sickness 🤞

MForMed · 02/02/2021 13:20

It's a really indivudual thing and you just don't know how it's going to affect you. I had a whole day nausea from about week 6/7 to 14/15, some days didn't throw up at all, some days it was a few times per day, and definitely not only in the morning. My friend on the other hand was not sick at all until a few days before the delivery.
Good luck OP, hopefully it won't be too bad for you.

cricketmum84 · 02/02/2021 13:21

I felt sick with baby number 1 but wasn't really physically sick. Baby number 2 however was all day sickness. Not on the scale of HG but felt sick all day and vomited probably once a day.

The beat thing I found for it was sipping lemon and ginger tea and those travel sickness bands from boots that have acupressure things.

And congratulations :)

MuchTooTired · 02/02/2021 13:22

I had all day nausea until about 17 weeks I think with my DTs. Felt like a permanent hangover which varied in intensity, but I was never sick. I don’t usually get hangovers, so think it was the universe rebalancing things!

insancerre · 02/02/2021 13:26

I threw up all day every day for the first 20 weeks till I had to take meds
Both pregnancies

anxiousannie1988 · 02/02/2021 13:29

Thanks everyone. Honestly I would rather end the pregnancy than vomit, that's how bad it is. I'm just so unsure what to do. I don't think I can go ahead.

9 weeks of 24 hour nausea, then started occasional sickness around 6 weeks.
The nausea has gone now but sickness comes back every so often (like once or twice a week). I'm 14+3 now so hopefully the sickness will disappear completely soon.

Mountainpose · 02/02/2021 13:32

Three pregnancies, I felt nauseous everyday from 6-13 weeks each time. Like a really bad, never ending hangover. It was made worse by certain smells. But I only ever actually vomited a couple of times.

LudoTrouble · 02/02/2021 13:32

OP if you have a genuine phobia, you need to seek help ASAP. You will not be the first with a phobia so bad you want to abort the pregnancy. Your healthcare provider needs to know and can help.

I had 3 children, never threw up at all though I did feel nauseous.

greenemerald · 02/02/2021 13:33

All day nausea until week 12 I think. Didn't throw up once

dottiedaisee · 02/02/2021 13:34

No I didn’t have any sickness or nausea with any of my pregnancies.

RunnerGirl123 · 02/02/2021 13:37

Felt nauseous everyday from 6 weeks to now (13 weeks tomorrow, and hopefully it'll be ending soon), made worse when hungry. I've thrown up a handful of times, usually first thing before I've had breakfast and occasionally after brushing my teeth. I think having accessible snacks to take it off really helps, you'll learn what helps and what doesn't and you've just got to go with the flow. Hope you don't end up feeling too poorly, congratulations on your pregnancy!

Totally agree with this

From my whole NCT group (8 of us), none of us actually vomited, everyone just felt very nauseous

@anxiousannie1988 Fellow emetophobe here 👋

I’m 12+4. At the beginning I mostly felt hungover (light headed, dizzy etc) with a couple of days of nausea thrown in. Over the last week the nausea has gotten more intense and frequent and then yesterday I was sick 3 times ☹️ Touchwood yesterday was just a blip as I feel semi-okay today!

Do you usually have methods/coping mechanisms to talk yourself out of being sick? I had a few days where I really thought I was going to vom but managed to breathe through it, I took my phone in the bathroom to distract me and it worked (except for yesterday 😩)

I’ve found the anti-sickness travel bands have helped take the edge off any nausea so far, I wear them overnight and most mornings I feel okay. Also eat ice lollies to get some sugar in you, along with snacks little and often like breadsticks/rice cakes/crumpets.

I really do feel for you because it is awful, but if it does happen to you it won’t be forever. Would it be worth speaking to your GP to explain your phobia and getting some anti-sickness meds on standby at home?

IslaHockings · 02/02/2021 14:52

I had terrible morning sickness (vomiting) from 6 weeks to 20 weeks - my first trimester felt like a constant hangover!

jamie980 · 02/02/2021 14:52

None here. Had some very mild nausea sometimes first thing until I’d eaten something (similar to what I’d feel on a low grade hangover) but never worse than that and didn’t vomit once. Hope you get off lightly too but as others have suggested, please ask for some help for your phobia. Congratulations on your pregnancy x

Maybemay123 · 02/02/2021 14:55

I had nausea and vomiting from week 5 to the minute I gave birth all day and sometimes night to with both pregnancies.
My sibling had nausea no vomiting for about 3-4 weeks with all her pregnancies.
Every one is different.
Could you discuss with midwife /GP regarding some preemptive prescribing of antiemetics?

Meredithgrey1 · 02/02/2021 15:01

I’m also emetophobic and was in an absolute state in the first trimester, signed off work, didn’t get out of bed etc. I “only” had nausea and was given cyclizine by the GP as I went to an appointment and just broke down sobbing about how I didn’t think I could cope.
But, it did get better. It peaked at about 9 weeks, I never actually threw up, I found nibbling on raisins and sour Granny Smith apples helped. I also found a lifesaving friend on mumsnet who had roughly the same due date and was also emetophobic, we messaged all the time generally just sharing misery. She was given ondansetron as well as cyclizine and she also never threw up so there are plenty of options if you feel you need them. It was her second pregnancy as well, so even as an emetophobe she felt able to do two pregnancies!
