Anybody tried a Ewan the Dream Sheep before? Are they worth it?

Any recommendations for similar that doesn't cost £30?!

My cousin used one with her baby and thought it was the best thing she ever bought. I got one and it didn’t really seem to make any difference.
Not overly helpful of me I know, but I think you can’t really predict if something will work for your baby. Something cheaper might just be trying playing white noise on your phone (not too loud), seeing if that helps your baby sleep, and if it does, it might be worth getting the sheep?

Coconutfatfeast · 31/01/2021 18:31

Yes we love it. The newer one that turns on automatically when they cry is better. I’ve seen some sleep advice saying it’s better to have white noise playing constantly all night, which Ewan won’t do. That’s never been a problem for us though.

Dinosauraddict · 31/01/2021 19:07

DS loved it and it really helped him sleep. Pay the extra £5er for the deluxe one that comes on automatically!

Hedwigtheowl · 31/01/2021 19:08

Best thing we ever bought for baby DS

user1493413286 · 31/01/2021 19:20

Was great for my non sleeping DS, I realise you asked for cheaper but I bought the £30 one then got the £40 one as that one starts up automatically when they cry rather than you having to turn it on

qate · 31/01/2021 19:23

If you decide to get one - buy the automatic one!! When DS was born they only had the manual one and we had to perfect the flying ninja leap out of bed to switch it on the minute it stopped (it had a 20 minute cycle). It worked for us for DS; DD is a calmer sleeper so the old one is still stuck in a cupboard as we've never had to use it.

Zarinea · 31/01/2021 19:24

Made no difference here - I suspect it depends on the baby.

One the baby arrives I'd try white noise on your phone for free, and only invest if they like that.

turtletum · 31/01/2021 19:31

I had ewan with my first baby. Was great as ds1 was a poor sleeper and we needed all the help we could. Used as part of bedtime routine so was helpful when staying somewhere unfamiliar too.
Second baby I bought an ollie owl from gro as it was on offer. Its automatic like the newer ewan, which is great for self settling in the night. My second baby isn't that bothered though, but she's a good sleeper, unlike baby 1. We could have got by without it.
Basically, it's not essential and your baby might not need/like it. Could you wait till baby is here?

Laura1609 · 31/01/2021 19:43

Everyone raves about it to me, I bought one and god, it made NO difference! We only had one that would stay on for 20 mins which I thought was quite pointless when you read about one of the key points of using white noise is for it to be continuously playing if baby fell asleep with it. We now use a white noise machine from Amazon and it stays on all night. Would recommend!

Lifeinaonesie · 31/01/2021 19:45

Made no difference here and given you're not allowed toys in the cot you might as well just get a free app with whooshing noises and lullabies, stick your phone on airplane mode and save the money.

Nemostripes · 31/01/2021 19:49

I'd go white noise machine instead!

Koolandorthegang · 31/01/2021 20:03

I just play white noise from a playlist on Spotify called, “Baby Ssssh”. Have Ewan but he’s not loud enough for my DD’s liking

Figgygal · 31/01/2021 20:06

My 4yo still sleeps with his
he pulls the battery pack out every other night yet it’s survived

Moonbabyskalimba · 31/01/2021 20:06

It does work, but it eats up batteries and I found that white noise on you tube worked just as well (except trying to sneak in later to rescue your phone is fun Grin)

CrustyCrabbe · 31/01/2021 20:14

He lied to me, promised me the world did that sheep...but made not a jot of difference. We gave him to friends in the end.

To be fair I had a Very Terrible Sleeper. DS was one of those babies who woke hourly, rarely napped (and when he did it was fleeting), and woke for the day at 5am (if we were lucky - it was often earlier). The amount of money we spent on stuff out of sheer desperation to try help him sleep for longer is obscene.

Amelia891 · 31/01/2021 20:28

I had a Ewan for my DD, he was cute and she liked it, especially the heartbeat sound but it didn’t stay on long enough. Not sure if the newer version stays on longer.

This time I’ve ordered the Dream Egg White Noise machine, has options for the timer, has a nice light with it and is small/portable (does other sounds not just white noise). On offer on amazon now, worth a look at!

JohnMiddleNameRedactedSwanson · 31/01/2021 20:40

Made no difference to either of mine. There are lots of white noise tracks on YouTube and Spotify. DC2 got on best with ‘pink’ noise.

GuyFawkesDay · 31/01/2021 20:41

Mine loved hers. It taught her to self settle brilliantly as she found the button to set it off. She still has a sheepy, no batteries on it now but just fond memories.

Would recommend.

Respectabitch · 31/01/2021 20:41

Useless. We needed constant, louder white noise, and the thing ate batteries.

What worked a charm was a cheap radio, tuned to pure static and left on all night. Or there are a dozen white noise apps, I just didn't want to have to leave my phone in there.

Dyra · 31/01/2021 20:43

I was gifted one. DD didn't care for it, and neither did I. Definitely depends on the baby I think.

Snowmakeseverythingbeautiful · 31/01/2021 20:44

We have the old one and the deluxe one for both kids, the deluxe is goid cos it has the cry sensor, the bad thing about them is they will cost a fortune in batteries

NoliteTeBastardesCarborundorum · 31/01/2021 20:49

Agree with posters above that getting a white noise machine off Amazon is much cheaper and better as it plays all night rather than 20 minutes. As a previous poster suggested, you could try an app on your phone (recommend Relaxio) or a tablet/old device to see if it helps first.

HorseDentist · 31/01/2021 20:51

My 8 year old still sleeps with his every night. Worth every single penny.

2021mumma · 31/01/2021 20:51

We had one and it was a waste of time. We also ended up seeing a sleep consultant and she advised having a white noise machine on all night was what was needed rather than Ewan who was only on sporadically. We just bought a cheap white noise machine off amazon it did the trick

Toddlerteaplease · 31/01/2021 20:54

One of my patients at the minute has one. I love it, and it really works for her
