3 chemical pregnancies

choccrumpet · 31/01/2021 12:24

I'm currently going through my 3rd chemical pregnancy in a row.

We started casually trying for our first baby last August. First chemical was in September. We started trying seriously from December and I had another chemical that cycle. The next cycle I got pregnant once again but am miscarrying right now due to another chemical.

Does anyone have any success stories after 3 chemicals?

From my research, 3 chemicals are unusual and only about 1-10% of women experience recurring miscarriages. I had bloods done 2 months ago and everything came back fine, I have no known issues. Its heartbreaking and frustrating that it keeps happening. I am trying to stay hopeful but it's difficult.

Hi @choccrumpet how are you doing?
Did period arrive?

I am 9dpo and resisting the urge to test!! I don't think I want to test this cycle as for me it just makes the chemicals harder to deal with, maybe if I don't know one way or the other it will be better Smile

choccrumpet · 25/05/2021 17:11

Hi @Icklemissgem oh yes period was right on time which was good so I didn't have to question it! I'm doing okay, feeling much better mentally and accepting things as they are, probably feeling better than I have in a few months and am hoping it lasts. Continuing with acupuncture and keeping up exercising.

Wow you've lasted long without testing, well done 😅 I know what you mean but I still can't resist the urge to test lol. Are you waiting until your period due date before you test? How are you doing?

So sorry @choccrumpet!

I had 2 chemicals, both ended at 5 weeks. I'm currently pregnant again and have reached 9 weeks so far. I changed nothing this cycle and have not taken any aspirin or progesterone etc. I toyed with the idea of aspirin but read it's not recommended before 8 weeks as it can hinder implantation and chickened our. I'm still quite early on but I've definitely escaped the chemical this time so it CAN happen without any changes. Try to keep positive but still worth speaking to your doctor to make sure you can get support/testing if it happens again.

I just realised this thread is from January sorry 😅 confusing when these older threads are bumped up

Icklemissgem · 25/05/2021 19:24

That's really good to hear @choccrumpet
Exercise definitely helps me as well.

Haha yes well it’s all well and good me saying that but will I be able to hold off that’s doubtful haha. I am really going to try though as I think it will help if I don't.

choccrumpet · 25/05/2021 20:39

@2020mission congratulations that's amazing! I'm currently in the process of doing tests with the fertility clinic and I've had basic tests done with my gp, I'm doing acupuncture and eating well, exercising regularly etc etc so I am doing all the things I should be doing! I'm believing it's a matter of time and staying positive. Lovely and reassuring to hear about your experience 🤗

@Icklemissgem when is your period due? Not long to go I bet so it's only around the corner, you can do it!! I'm waiting for my fertile period, late ovulation sucks there's so much waiting around but I'm halfway there and then the time will fly by.

@choccrumpet how you getting on?

I tried aspirin last cycle but didn't get a BFP 🙈 currently 7dpo so waiting to see if I get a BFP this time around.

We have our first phone consultation with the recurrent miscarriage clinic on Wednesday 🤞🏻

AmyS12 · 07/08/2021 19:13

Ive just read through this entire thread and really wanted to hear how you both @choccrumpet and @Icklemissgem are getting on?

Ive just had my 2nd chemical pregnancy in a row and TTC baby number 1. I’m 27 and would class myself as healthy with regular cycles and no previous issues xxx

You are misinformed. Most pregnancies are "chemical" - ie do not become established. It is only known about becasue of early testing, without early testing, you would simply not consider yourself pregnant until much later, after a pregnancy has established.

The way to avoid "chemicals" is simply not to test that early

AmyS12 · 07/08/2021 19:37

@54321nought
Unsure what’s incorrect to be honest?

A chemical pregnancy is still a pregnancy.
Yes you wouldn’t know you’d had one in theory without testing early however it’s still a viable pregnancy and considered a loss just like a clinical pregnancy.

Icklemissgem · 07/08/2021 19:43

@AmyS12

I am so sorry for your losses. I had 4 chemicals in a row in the end but can happily say I am currently 10 weeks pregnant (albeit I am extremely anxious and worried sick!).
We were referred to a recurrent miscarriage clinic but I ended up falling pregnant again before our first appointment.
I can’t really say we did anything any different, after the fourth chemical we had a break for 3 months and I took some supplements and vitamins I had been recommended as I had been advised by a consultant by AMH levels were low for my age and therefore maybe my egg quality was poor. After a 3 month break we tried again and caught straight away and so far this one has stuck.
Sending you loads of luck and wishing you all the best xx

Icklemissgem · 07/08/2021 19:45

@54321nought

What an unhelpful comment! With all 4 of my chemicals they were a pregnancy to me and each was devastating.

AmyS12 · 07/08/2021 19:46

Wow congratulations!! @Icklemissgem
That’s amazing news I’m sending you all the luck and well wishes possible for the rest of your pregnancy 💖💖💖

I’m going to hope it’s a third time lucky and try again this month! Im not even thinking about the outcome just going to try and trust the process! (Easier said than done) xxxx

That's the whole point, testing early is nothing but a road straight to devastation.

People need to realise MOST conceptions do not become established pregnancies.

So the earlier your test, the more "miscarriages" you will be aware of.

Its very very common. Every mother ever has had "chemicals" as well, but would not have been aware.

Its not unhelpful to make people aware of this.

For ANY conception, there is a GREATER THAN 50% CHANCE it will be a "chemical"

So a large number of "chemicals" is completely natural and normal

Icklemissgem · 07/08/2021 19:51

@AmyS12 thank you Smile

Yes that’s all you can do. As you say it’s so easy to say that, but you just have to be positive. I have everything crossed for you xx

AmyS12 · 07/08/2021 19:57

@54321nought - in future perhaps be a little more sensitive to people’s situation.

Don’t think any of us in this thread is in need of a lecture nor did we ask for you input

@Icklemissgem we can do this! 💖💖

Actually yes the OP did ask for input.

She asked for success stories after 3 chemicals.

Yes, most women who have ever been mothers since time began would most likely have had 3 chemicals.

literally billions of success stories.

AmyS12 · 07/08/2021 21:19

@54321nought - lol you didn’t give a success story you gave a lecture and was quite insensitive.

Your opinion really is irrelevant so please give it a rest with your pointless replies

not an opinion, a fact. And not pointless.

People who are goingthrough this need to know it is completely normal

AmyS12 · 08/08/2021 06:49

@54321nought

Perhaps next time don’t come in with ‘your misinformed’

Be more sensitive and perhaps apologise for people’s losses instead of telling us we’re wrong

Pretty sure you’d of had a different response

siobhan2017 · 06/10/2021 10:27

Hi, I’ve just come across this thread … after having 2 chemical pregnancies since July. I have a 1 year old daughter, but it took us 3 years to have her - after a few failed rounds of IVF - we fell pregnant naturally with her.

I just wondered how people were getting on? I’m hoping in my case it’s just bad luck :( but can’t shake the feeling there’s more too it. I’ve asked my gp for blood tests which I’m having this week, but other than that their advice was to ‘just keep trying’ xx

Icklemissgem · 06/10/2021 12:48

@siobhan2017
I am sorry for your losses and hope you are doing ok.
I had 4 chemical losses in a row and after many tests was also told to keep trying. We took a 3 month break and tried again, I am now 20 weeks pregnant so for us it did work.
I have everything crossed for you, I remember the frustration at being told to just keep trying!! X

siobhan2017 · 06/10/2021 13:52

@Icklemissgem congratulations! That’s amazing - so sorry that you went through 4 chemicals though. I’m torn between taking a break or just going for it straight away again, I think we will try again and if it happens another time take a little break and see where we are at! It’s really reassuring to here from people who have been in a similar situation and gone on to have a successful pregnancy xx

Icklemissgem · 06/10/2021 14:41

@siobhan2017 yes totally understand and that’s exactly how I was hence the 4 in a row as I just kept thinking what if this month it works 🙈 but truthfully I think my body did need the break.
Good luck xx

elysal · 16/03/2022 18:42

I just experienced my second chemical pregnancy in a row. It has been very hard! Gyno referred me to a Reproductive Endocrinologist and waiting for the appointment day to come. What tests do they usually do? I am so anxious but we want a baby so badly!
