I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/topics/nausea-vomiting-in-pregnancy
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hi all. I had about a week of not feeling too bad but the last 48 hours have been miserable again. constant nausea and about 4 or 5 vomits a day. Keeping enough fluids down but I feel awful & having some pretty bad headaches. I'm staying with my parents and my mum has taken over all childcare for DD. Not sure if I should go back to the GP as I dont know there is much else they can do for me at this point. I'm taking ondansetron and cyclizine.

abbs1 · 09/07/2021 07:08

@JessicaM2021 aww im so happy baby girl is doing well! Thats excellent that the vomitting has stopped. Hopefully the migraines will go away. They are so awful.

The medication i got given on Wednesday so far is working so im really thankful.

abbs1 · 09/07/2021 07:10

@nomeslice im so sorry its been rough again for you. I would see if the gp can offer anything else.
Im glad your family is helping out with DD so you can rest.

Aranciata · 09/07/2021 09:52

I have returned to work this week doing half days working from home.
Pretty exhausted but touch wood feeling quite a bit better and eating more foods.

Hoping Lucinda is having a lovely time.

Best wishes to all 💐

abbs1 · 09/07/2021 16:19

@aranciata oh thats good you are starting to feel a bit better.

Im hoping the xonvea keeps the sickness at bay as long as possible. Im 5 weeks tomorrow.

Musicmonday · 10/07/2021 00:48

Hello again , just wondering if anyone has taken vitamin b6 and cyclazine (sorry for spelling) at the same time?
I was on xonvea for a time and it took the edge off a bit but the dr refuses to prescribe them again (I think it’s partially a cost based decision).
Not sure if I should buy some b6 and take with the cyclazine I’m on.

LilmissCa · 10/07/2021 08:48

@Musicmonday I've been thinking similar about getting b6 & b1 after reading it on the her foundation site. I'm taking ondansetron at the mo. Can't answer question tho .. sorry!

Musicmonday · 10/07/2021 13:58

@LilmissCa Thanks. I’ve been prescribed ondasetron but only take it on really bad days. Makes my head really fuzzy and just want to sleep.
Will get some b vitamins and let you know how it goes.

LucindaE · 10/07/2021 21:09

Hello, everyone, Mother Hen is back. I had a nice time in Cheshire with DD, thank you. abbs1thank you so much for your great advice and holding the fort. I hope the symptoms are holding off. Welcome to Slk358, Finallyfoundkeys and welcome back to Kel55. I do remember that distressing blood clots complication.
JessicaM2021 Thank you so much for the encouraging message. Sorry to hear of migraines; they are truly appalling.A chiropractor(spelling?) helped mine in pregnancy but was horribly expensive. Aranciata Good news. Waves to Thingymaboob,
Musicmonday L1ttlm1ss and everyone.

@LucindaE so glad you had a lovely few days with family. The xonvea seems to be working well so far. Im absolutely exhausted but fine otherwise atm. Hopefully everyone is doing ok and I helped as much as I could with questions.

InvisibleDreamer · 10/07/2021 21:30

Hi everyone,

I’m 9+2 and have been struggling since 4 weeks. I’m on onadansetron and cyclizine. Tried switching from cyclizine to metoclopramide for one dose but didn’t feel it was any more effective. Should I have given it more time?

I’m very tired and weak atm only eating a few wafers/biscuits/crisps per day and managing small sips of apple juice or water. Trying to avoid going to hospital but wondering whether I should just to try and get some improvement. Has anyone felt like it really helped them? Don’t really feel up to sitting for hours in A&E and due to having other long term health issues I don’t want to risk picking up covid (have had 1st vacc just before pregnancy).

Ketosticks indicate moderate dehydration but no headaches or anything although some days have been very dizzy when getting up but ok now.

Any thoughts and advice welcome.

LucindaE · 11/07/2021 14:39

InvisibleDreamer Welcome. I am typing this on my laptop as my pc is being checked, so while I'd normally give you a copy of my normal spiel, this faulty keyboard makes it much harder. If you scroll back down you might find some of the tips on that helpful. It's certainly worth asking if they can add any meds. Do you need a laxative and are you on an antiacid? I have heard they don't usually offer steroids so early. Hopefully things will get better for you at some point between week s 15,-20 as they do for most sufferers.
abbs1 You were really excellent. Thanks so much. I'm glad it could be worse...

LucindaE · 11/07/2021 14:41

InvisibleDreamer I meant to add that that really isn't enough fluids.
Do ask your surgery about that, even without a headache, etc.

This keyboard is dire! The font size keeps changing. I hope everyone is coping today.

Hiya everyone. Hello to newbies. It always makes me sad to see new people suffering.
I'm in the dreaded week 9. Been dreading it but think the drug rotations are working well as I feel ok. Definitely less vomiting and dry wretching. Here is my routine if it helps anyone:
6am cyclizine
10am stemetil
midday ondansetron
2pm cyclizine
6pm stemetil
8pm ondansetron
10pm cyclizine
2am (alarm to wake up) stemetil

Hi everyone! I’m new here so please forgive me if I say anything out of turn.

I’m pregnant with my 4th. 8+2. I’m am strugglinggggggg with life due to the constant nausea. I haven’t been diagnosed with HG -(my doctor is seemingly blasé about the whole situation). I saw a different doctor at the beginning of my sickness and was given ondansetron to take. I went back to the doctors and saw my regular doctor for something else & he advised me to stop taking the ondansetron due to the small risk of cleft palate. I am now on B6 and metoclopromide but it is offering little to no relief. I take it every day right on time. Every 4 hours, 3 times daily. 730am, 1130 & 330 but it’s not helping! I went back to the doctors coz I am absolutely miserable. Almost ready to give up because I feel awful all the time and he pretty much said “toughen up princess there’s nothing more I can do for you without risking the baby”. I don’t know what to do! Is that correct?

Side note, I’ve lost 5 kilos so far. Have the most disgusting taste in my mouth constantly so EVERYTHING tastes foul and my smell is hypersensitive which also triggers the vomiting. PLEASE ALSO NOTE. That I told me doctor this and his solution was a COVID 19 Test due to change in taste and smell 🤦🏽‍♀️

I feel guilty as my other 3 all DD’s aren’t eating as well due to the fact mummy doesn’t want to cook. Daddy is working super hard at the moment as we are saving to buy first home and is self employed so he isn’t much help when he gets home. I’m really starting to think if it’s worth it or not.

Welcome to the group hun. You definitely sound like you have hg. I would go back on ondansatron. It is safe to take and so many women including myself took it and no harm to baby. I was doing ondansatron then 4 hours later metoclopromide alternating every 4 hours throughout 24 hour period even through the night setting alarms. I would highly recommend getting some iv fluids and medication in hospital to give you some relief if you can. Are you in the uk? If you are many hospitals have hg day walkin units. Let me know if you need help locating one. Sadly drs are very blazae about hg but there is definitely treatment. If you take ondansatron again make sure to ask for lactulose as it makes one very constipated. Keep us posted and i wil help all i can. Im at the beginning of my 2nd hg journey. Im sure @LucindaE will also give you some great advice.

Seems when quoting other comments it looks like im posting and not saying quote apologies when it comes up on the thread.

abbs1 · 13/07/2021 18:52

Since taking the xonvea tablets my nausea is completely gone and im freaking out i may end up with a mc as ive not got any really noticeable symptoms. Ive never been on it but was recommended it to prevent the nauseaand sickness but thought I'dstill get some. Just a bit anxious.
Has anyone else been on xonvea and had no symptoms?

SB91 · 13/07/2021 19:58

Hi ladies,

It has been a while since I posted. I had severe hyperemesis from week 5 up to around week 13 (I'm now in my 17th week).
Just wanted to say that the anti sickness medication that has really helped me is promethazine hydrochloride (just 10mg) it has made a significant difference. I get the odd bout of heaving every so often but thankfully it prevents me from bringing anything up.

Sending well wishes to anyone suffering, I know how horrendous it can be but really hope it gets easier x

abbs1 · 13/07/2021 20:19

@SB91 Im so glad you are finally getting some relief. Weeks 5-20 were the worst for me last time. Im glad youve found a medication that works for you. I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly.

SB91 · 13/07/2021 20:33

Thank you so much @abbs1 x

thingymaboob · 13/07/2021 20:33

Waves to everyone.
Husband is making spaghetti Bol and even though I'm 3 floors away, I want to die with the smell. He quite rightly wants to make food that is more nutritious than baked potatoes and oven chips. I gave him permission because I know fish fingers and chips most night is making him miserable. All windows are open.
@abbs1 sounds like xonvea is working well for you. Unless you've got bleeding, I would take it as a good sign. I know how you feel though, always worrying if not feeling like death. It's not fair, is it?
