22 weeks pregnant vomit is black?

Firstly I've spoken to 111 doctor will be ringing me back within 2 hours. Baby is kicking away.
Anyone else had this? I feel fine in myself apart from constant heartburn
I vomited earlier and it had a spot of red in it
Now the vomit is completely black
I'm also taking aspirin everyday (consultant led) done some googling and apparently that can cause bleeding?
Just wondering if anyone has had this and what the outcome was?

It does sound like bleeding. I hope you get some answers soon. Aspiring can cause bleeding of the digestive system, is not recommended during periods because it increases the blood flow and generally pregnant women are advised not to take it.

I hope it ceases soon.

Nicknamegoeshere · 27/01/2021 00:01

Hope all is OK

99redspottedducks · 27/01/2021 00:03

I'm on aspirin as family history of pre eclampsia and I was borderline last pregnancy
However my consultant said it was safe and never mentioned any side effects like this Sad

Hope you get a diagnosis and treatment quickly

Sounds like blood. Sounds like an emergency situation to me.

DumpTrump · 27/01/2021 00:11

Hope you get to speak to the doctor soon. What dose aspirin are you taking?

99redspottedducks · 27/01/2021 00:13

@DumpTrump

Hope you get to speak to the doctor soon. What dose aspirin are you taking?
75mg x2 once a day

Please try not to worry, you may have a little ulcer in your stomach or duodenum which is bleeding and can easily be fixed. I expect you've been told this but when on aspirin you should drink plenty of milk, especially before and after taking the aspirin.

Do let us know how you get on. I hope you get some sleep.

LizFlowers · 27/01/2021 02:08

PS: I found a leaflet online from Oxford regarding administration of aspirin to prevent pre-eclampsia: it recommends 75mg once a day in the evening. Scroll down to page 4.

Just spoke to the doctor now
They must be very busy tonight.
He doesn't think it warrants rushing me in anywhere but wants me to get hold of my doctors in the morning for a blood test
And to be checked over
He also rang me back to say he wasn't sure if he'd clarified but he wanted to make sure that I wasn't going to take any more aspirin until this had all been sorted
So sounds like it's that
Since the black vomit my 24/7 heartburn has disappeared though! Every cloud and all that Grin

If you suffered from HG then you may have a small tear of the sphincter at the top of your stomach < Mallory Weis tear >.
This along with taking aspirin will cause bleeding.
Hope you feel better soon Flowers

At the doctors now waiting to be seen

I've vomited 4 times this morning
But only specks of red blood now
But also had 2 nose bleeds Confused
Got a splitting headache and just want to sleep
Hopefully this will be sorted soon and I can go home to bed!

How scary!
Fingers crossed it's easily sorted OP Flowers

Sparksflyxo · 27/01/2021 11:17

Good luck OP. I was taking aspirin due to family history of pre eclampsia and it being my first pregnancy. I was advised to stop just over a week ago (24 weeks now) as it has caused terrible nose bleeds longest one 1 hour and 30 mins so ending up going to A&E.

99redspottedducks · 27/01/2021 12:34

Am in the hospital
Waiting for a doctor to come and see me
Have vomited maybe 20 times now
Can't keep anything down
The baby on the other hand is fine and kicked the midwifes Doppler off her Smile

You've definitely done the right thing going to hospital. I'm sure they will be able to do something to help. Good luck with it, it sounds scary. Flowers Silver lining is it doesn't sound like it's affecting the baby at all.

HollowTalk · 27/01/2021 13:21

That sounds really scary. I'm so glad you're at the hospital now.

ChelseaCat · 27/01/2021 13:38

Hope you’re ok op Flowers

Thesearmsofmine · 27/01/2021 13:41

.......
Yes! I'm glad you've knocked the aspirin on the head. It was double the dose of that recommended. However you do need to be investigated in case you've developed an ulcer.

Good that your baby is fine and kicking. I'm sure you will be fine soon.

ofwarren · 27/01/2021 17:57

Just wondering how you are getting on OP?
Worried about you Flowers

99redspottedducks · 27/01/2021 18:05

That would be done under sedation, redspottedducks. I understand how you feel, I would be the same but know people who have had the procedure who have said it isn't that bad.

However they may continue to assess and treat you clinically for a couple of days. Please try to relax, this will be over soon. The important thing is that you are being monitored, hopefully looked after and the baby is doing well.

OP, hope you’re feeling better soon.

@LizFlowers am sure you’re meaning to be helpful and supportive but many places do indeed prescribe 150mg aspirin in pregnancy and I suspect the OPs prescription was based on the consultant’s experience and understanding of her whole history. (Endoscopy isn’t always done with sedation either - and the balance of risk and benefit in pregnancy may make the other options more appealing.).
