Hi there - I live just outside Reading, due Feb 08 & am also expecting my first. First antenatal class tomorrow!

How are you finding it so far?

HelenCS · 29/10/2007 20:07

hey

so far its been an easy(ish) pregnancy, was taken to royal berks last week as i had some bleeding and the bf went into panic overdrive insisting i go!! had an appointment at the early pregnancy clinic the next day where they did an internal scan and everything looked ok - well everything looked in the right place but because im so early in the pregnancy, ( i found out at 4 weeks, am 7 weeks on thurs)i couldnt see the baby which worried me a bit! lol

No morning sickness or anything, im not sure when to expect it??

hows your pregnancy been?

has it been everything you expected it to be so far??

Hi just wanted to say I'm in Reading. Not pregnant - have one ds who is 18 months. Had him at the Royal Berks and was generally very happy apart from the lack of breastfeeding support - if you're planning to bf make sure you go to the bf clinic.

Let me know if you want any more info. The NCT used to do coffee mornings in Pizza Express on fridays - not sure if they still do, for mums-to-be. I also did an NCT antenatal course which was a great place to meet other mums-to-be, but obviously you're a way off from that.

Good luck with your pregnancy.

Hi there,

I've had an easy pregnancy so far I think - certainly compared to a friend of mine who's ended up in hospital on a drip (hyperemesis - sp?) Went off everything green and salady in my first trimester, and felt queasy in the evenings but no actual sickness. Got my appetite back now - in fact, now I've gone the other way and am constantly hungry

The 20 week scan is amazing though - and the first time you hear the heartbeat is pretty special too As is feeling movements - still haven't got used to that one and sit there naval gazing waiting for the next kick...

Hope everything carries on being okay for you. Are you planning on doing NCT classes?

JackBlackRoady · 30/10/2007 16:02

Hello! I'm in Basingstoke, not quite Reading I know but I have no-one I know who is pg round here and spend all my time on mn instead! I am around 13 weeks and struggling with awful sickness. I can't wait for this stage to end... JBR xxxxx

HelenCS · 30/10/2007 17:40

strawberry martini - yeah im planning to have the baby at royal berks.. only been there once so far but the maternity ward seems far from the main entrance!
My bf is wanting me to breastfeed but not really sure if its the best thing to do??

dodo29 - think the morning sickness has started this afternoon, came and went pretty quick but i was definitly nauteous. Went to the doctors today and i have an extremely bad ear infection, im on 5 medications at the moment which theyve said none will harm the baby so im hoping it clears up pretty quickly. When i go on monday il be about 7+4 what do you think i will see on the scan (if anything??)

hi jackblack yeah its not good when you dont no anyone else who is pregnant!
im dreading the morning sickness, think im getting tasters of it (it comes and goes!) and its not pleasant

Helen - we are on the same thread about the bleeding and I'm also in Reading! I'm back on Friday for another scan, why did they make you wait longer??? (presuming you were also at Sonning Ward?) Unless it's because I cried and said was worried because of previous MC??? If you find the wait too much, phone them and ask if you can come on Friday - I'll be there at 9am!!

StrawberryMartini · 30/10/2007 19:55

Helen - there's a separate entrance to the maternity ward further up the road so don't worry about walking all the way through the hospital when you're in labour! Last time I was there for an appointment, a woman was giving birth in the car park!

HelenCS · 31/10/2007 10:31

Hi bloodsucking - oh thats a bit spooky!! lol
well they said to come back in a week (which would have been friday) but just gave me a date for monday instead, not totally sure why. but i think my dates are out a bit so the weekend could make all the difference. Good luck on firday for your scan tho - how many weeks are you? let me no how it goes xxx

strawberrymartini - thank god for that! when me and my partner went to the hospital last week the one thing i kept moaning about was the walk from the entrance to the maternity ward lol xxx

bloodsuckingLOONEY · 31/10/2007 12:02

What's even more spooky is my name is also Helen

Thanks and good luck with yours - I was 'measuring' 5+5 on Friday last week but we can't be sure as the blood test showed me further gone. If I've not grown and got heartbeat on Friday then that will explain the difference. Hopefully it will be ok though.

HelenCS · 31/10/2007 14:49

I was 6 weeks when i went for my scan last thursday so we must be due around the same time then.
Maybe il bump into you in the sonning ward sometime xx

Hi HelenCS - we had a private scan at 7 weeks because we weren't sure about dates and you could definitely see a baby bean, with a heartbeat. They pointed out the yolk sac too - I think that's what feeds bubs for the first few days/weeks until the placenta has developed.

Good luck for your scan on Monday - and good luck to Bloodsucking too...

JackBlackRoady · 01/11/2007 08:21

Hello again! My hospital is the North Hants in Basingstoke, and luckily the car par is right outside the maternity bit! I went for my 12 week scan last week and had to go back and put another £2 in the machine as I was waiting so long, so it is a good job it is just outside! I am still really struggling with the sickness - I feel sick if I smell something (anything! even the smell of hands after washing, or the smell of washing powder, or the fridge when I open it)- I feel sick if I am empty of food or if I've just eaten food (again, any food, although dry toast is the best) and I feel sick if I move too quickly (!!!). Luckily I am only actually sick a couple of times a day - yesterday not at all, today once already Anyway, enough whining on!

Dodo - I can't wait to get to your stage and eat properly again!

Hi everyone

Im in the Reading area too although I live in Bracknell
Im expecting our 2nd child in April,my dd was born at Royal Berks in March this year.
I found it to be a good hospital.the staff in the delivery suite was brilliant,my only complaint was the post natal care but I understand that is normal in most hospitals.

You enter the maternity ward via Craven Road so no long walk
Will be there myself in 2 weeks time for my 20 week scan, time goes so fast lol

JackBlackRoady · 06/11/2007 10:54

Hello Shanks313, I used to live in Bracknell, near Waitrose on the Ringmead, near the Arts Centre. Then we moved to Kent (!), now we are in Basingstoke. I'm 14 weeks this week, and praying for my sickness to end!

Anyone know - does getting a cold make your sickness worse?

HelenCS · 06/11/2007 10:57

hey,

i was at royal berks yesterday for my scan as i had some bleeding but luckily everythings fine and i dont need to go back until i have my 12 week scan in about 4 weeks.
they said my dates are off by about a week and a half so im only 6+3 but there still going by my original dates (from 1st day of last period) so im 7+5. do they usually do this??
saw babys heartbeat and eveything, was well worth the wait

Hiya. I'm not far from Reading - just outside Wallingford, but will be having the baby at the JR in Oxford because, despite living equidistant between Reading and Oxford, we fall in Oxfordshire.
I'm 23 weeks, so over half way now - the baby is currently doing some sort of jig in my tummy, which is quite distracting when I am trying to work. (Well, I say work, but i am clearly skiving a bit!)
Hope everything is going well for you all.

H x

EllieKat · 12/11/2007 11:07

Hello Reading people! I'm in Wallingford too and would really like to know if there are any meet-ups before the NCT classes which don't start until January? SpacehopperHayls, I'm 24 weeks, and hoping to go to the St George's Wing at Wallingford but I bet I end up going to the JR...I just have a feeling I'll go over my dates and they won't take me at Wallingford! If you ever want a coffee...?

JackBlackRoady · 12/11/2007 15:37

Does anybody know how to find out about antenatal classes around here? ask my midwife i suppose...?

dodo29 · 12/11/2007 18:47

Great news re. your scan Helen

EllieKat/SpaceHopperHayls - we live just outside Pangbourne so we've been thinking of St George's at Wallingford too - takes about as long for us to get into Reading as it does to get to Wallingford! What have you heard about the maternity unit there? We went on a tour a few weeks ago (now 26 weeks) and really liked it, but now wondering about home birth too. Would definitely be up for a coffee sometime... have either of you been to the Babyworld shop yet in Mongewell?

Hi there,

I also live in Reading and am pg (but only 5 weeks - very early days!)

Does anyone know the earliest date at which you can get your first scan? I had a missed mc earlier in the year and would like to get a scan asap this time...

Cheers,
A
