Just red and sore bum and she cries when being changed and it’s horrid :(
Using warm water and cotton wool to clean her up and know it’s advised not to put anything on newborn skin.
Thanks in advance:)

Congratulations on your new baby. Can you leave her nappy free for a bit just to get some air to it. That use to help with my two.

BathTangle · 21/01/2021 19:15

I think metanium is what we used really early on. Otherwise sudocrem. Congratulations on your little one!

bettertimesarecomingnow · 21/01/2021 19:17

Sudocrem or metanium and lots of fresh air!

Congrats and good luck in healing it up - their skin will get sore without a barrier cream.

Clairey844 · 21/01/2021 19:17

A little bit of breastmilk always worked wonders for us, squirt it direct and leave it to air x

Allthenumbers · 21/01/2021 19:19

Metanium and I swear by aveeno barrier cream. Plus as much nappy free time as you can.

BrandoraPaithwaite · 21/01/2021 19:24

I will never forget when my dc1 was born seeing a post on mumsnet that said you can always tell the first time parents on the new baby ward because they are the only ones following the "just cotton wool and water" advice! Parents with experience are there with the baby wipes, metanium, sudocrem or bepanthen and babies bums better for it! It some strange rule that makes midwives trot out the water and cotton wool thing. Just get water wipes and a nice bum cream from the above suggested and watch that little bum improve.

Toasty280 · 21/01/2021 19:24

Metanium not sudocream

Kb12 · 21/01/2021 19:31

Baby wipes really irritated my daughters skin. metanium, soft white paraffin/baseline and orabase all mixed together is supposedly very good

secretnutter · 21/01/2021 19:32

Congrats! Another one recommending water wipes, pat dry after cleaning and then Bepanthen cream. Lots of nappy free time if possible too!

Bing765 · 21/01/2021 19:34

We used Metanium when DD was a week old. It didnt even cross my mind not to use it. DD has really sensitive skin and really bad exczma atm but has absolutely no issues with Metanium or bepanthem.

Tempusfudgeit · 21/01/2021 19:35

Metanium - magical stuff!

peachypetite · 21/01/2021 19:38

I disagree with the above. Wipes are more abrasive on newborn skin.

bluubear · 21/01/2021 19:38

Metanium to clear up the rash and then a barrier like sudocream when it's better.

warriorwomanx · 21/01/2021 19:38

Breast milk or coconut oil!
I used loads of nappy rash creams with my eldest which worked but not as well as the natural products on my youngest.

BettyAndVeronica · 21/01/2021 19:46

Completely disagree with above advice on wipes.

Are you drying well after wiping?

Lots of nappy free time. Breast milk on sore bits if you can? Or Sudocrem

happymummy12345 · 21/01/2021 22:26

We used wipes from day one. Pampers new baby sensitive. Wasn't messing around with cotton wool and water. And we used Vaseline at every nappy change. Never had any nappy rash.

MrsFogi · 21/01/2021 22:30

Breastmilk works on just about everything! And leaving in the air as much as possible.
Good on you OP - I only used cotton wool and water on all my dcs and very, very rarely had any nappy rash (only when I didn't pat dry properly and/or was late changing a wet/full nappy). Although I did use wipes when out and about - don't kill yourself completely!

GemmeFatale · 21/01/2021 22:32

Mine was prescribed medihoney in hospital which worked so well we still buy it now and he’s 18months. No good if you suspect thrush though.

gamerchick · 21/01/2021 22:34

Are you using pampers? Mine got a horrible rash from them.

Bluntness100 · 21/01/2021 22:36

Sudocream worked a dream on my daughter at that age, I recall saying to the nurse she had a bum like a baboon, they magically produced some Sudocream and she was all good the next day.

heatered · 21/01/2021 22:43

TMI alert... I once had a sore bum myself (as an adult) and put sudocream on it, I almost screamed, it was agony. I now deeply regret ever putting it on my children. My youngest who is quite sensitive would only tolerate Bepanthen. I'm sure others have suggested water only, pat dry and allow fresh air to help the healing. Congratulations by the way

StacySoloman · 21/01/2021 22:45

Could also be thrush, so worth considering that too.

jasmineofagrabah · 21/01/2021 22:46

Metanium x

grey12 · 21/01/2021 22:56

You can use lanolin if you don't have diaper rash cream

wimbler · 22/01/2021 09:32

the yellow metatanium cream is a miracle worker! pat dry with a muslin too before applying. My daughter is horribly allergic to waterwipes, i'd suggest cheeky wipes, they're gentle and far better at actually cleaning than any other wipes! It may be worth trying a different nappy brand if it doesn't clear up.
