When did your "morning" sickness get better?

Hi everyone,

Currently 6+2 and having pretty bad nausea all day, can't think about/prepare food but can manage to eat something when put in front of me.

I work full time NHS front line, I've only had 2 days working with the nausea, and putting on a face and getting through the day is taking all my energy. I come home and have zero energy to do everything (say this after waking up from a 2 hour nap) and no personality with my partner. The only thing keeping me content is knowing that this is a good sign that things are progressing as they should.

I know I'm luckier than others in that no vomiting so far. What I need to know is, is it ok/normal for me to come home and lie around on the couch/in bed? I tried going for a walk on Sunday but it didn't make me feel any better.

And, when did your nausea peak/start getting better?
Thank you

Mine peaked around 8/9 weeks - I literally spent two weekends in bed - but carried on until 14 weeks in that I vommed most days, and felt nauseous until around 20 weeks. And then the heartburn and SPD kicked in. My body is not good at being pregnant.

Jellington · 18/01/2021 14:14

Totally normal. Still feeling sick with this one (8 weeks) but last time it got better at about 9 weeks.

Birchtree4 · 18/01/2021 14:29

@Merrz @alwaystired01 you both also have my sympathy, it is so rotten, like a hangover is exactly right. I feel like I'm in a hangover style black hole that won't let up! The last week feels like it has lasted months.

I have bought some vitamin b6 from H and B which helps some women, will let you know how it goes.

Don't know if you find this but I've started going off things as I associate them with nausea, e.g. I cant stand the thought of ginger tea after trying it 3 mornings in a row!

When my baby was born... but it was worth it!

notalwaysalondoner · 18/01/2021 14:40

9 weeks - it went very suddenly. I didn't have it very badly though.

Merrz · 18/01/2021 19:04

People saying it went at 9 weeks is giving me hope 🤞 I have actually felt marginally better today but maybe that's just after my weekend of complete rest.
It is totally worth it though, even if it doesn't feel like it just now. I remember 1st time thinking why has no one told me before how bad this would be but I think by the time you have your 12 week scan and tell people the worst is past and you forget about it quickly.

GlowingOrb · 18/01/2021 19:06

I threw up at least once a day until dd was born. From my perspective, the fact that society expects women to keep functioning while pregnant is insane. Most days I struggled to leave the bathroom floor.

AegonT · 18/01/2021 20:04

Both times it peaked at 9 weeks (not much worse than at 6 though and I was used to it by then!). Much better at 12 weeks, gone at 15 weeks. I also only had nausea but it was all day and horrible. I took medication this time which helped a bit.

AegonT · 18/01/2021 20:15

All I ate some days was plain home-made chips and ice pops! I could only drink ice-cold water. Ginger did nothing for me and I got an aversion to the taste. I tried B6 but the tablets were huge. The first trimester is brutal. I'm approaching the 3rd trimester now and even though I am getting very uncomfortable this time and seem to be getting painful SPD, can't walk far or sit comfortably it is still vastly preferable to feeling like you have a hangover 24/7!

alwaystired01 · 18/01/2021 23:24

@Merrz that's a good way to look at it. The fact that you've done this before gives me hope that it's all worth it.

@Birchtree4 I'm exactly the same, I ate so many ginger snaps to control the nausea around week 5/6, I can't look at them now without feeling sick! Let us know if the vitamins help at all 🤞

Mrslouu · 19/01/2021 04:22

@alwaystired01 I bought some of those anti sickness pressure point bands, look like skinny sweat bands and they did help. Plus making sure I was never massively hungry, even if just eating a slice of toast.

Hope everyone is feeling better soon.

JackiesCrimbleCrumble · 19/01/2021 04:41

I tried everything and the only thing that slightly helps were anti sickness tablets. It took several types to find one that took the edge off for me.
I used them until I was around 25 weeks and then from 35 weeks the nausea came back.
It was so bad it has put me off having another child, as there's no way I could look after dc if I was anything like I was last time.

alwaystired01 · 01/02/2021 13:28

Just curious as to whether of the any other ladies who are currently pregnant are feeling any better yet? I'm 10w2d and still feeling awful. @Birchtree4 any improvements in your symptoms?

RaeRae84 · 01/02/2021 13:49

Following as I am 9 weeks and really struggling. Getting me very down

BlueberryPancake21 · 01/02/2021 13:51

6 weeks to 26 weeks - but it ramped up to about 12 weeks then gradually started getting better. I had a few nausea-free days in there around 10wks as well (which scared me at the time!) Around 12 weeks it was 24hrs, I felt awful all the time and nothing helped. I'd throw up and feel sick again 2 minutes later. By 14 weeks I found that if I got up quickly and did the things that made me sick early (down a whole glass of water and jostle about getting in the shower) I could grab my sick bowl (more pleasant than hanging over the loo), bring the water back up (not that bad!) then have a normal day until about 6pm when it would come back. Such a relief to not be 24hrs! Gradually it started to ease off and became much more bearable. Just getting a bit of queasiness some days again now at 30 weeks but it's really not that bad.

lucyrp · 01/02/2021 14:24

@alwaystired01 I'm currently 11+2 and have had a few good days with nothing but still sick most days. Had a really bad day on the weekend which was my worst day yet but I do think it is getting better

Sweetpea12 · 01/02/2021 16:17

I’m 16 weeks and have only stopped being sick in the last week. I find brushing my teeth is usually the trigger for why I’m still retching most days and certain smells can still affect it. If anyone is really struggling I got medication from my doctor and it was a god send

Raindancer411 · 01/02/2021 16:25

Mine was once I had had my son the first time, and this time... the same, not until I had the baby 😭

Birchtree4 · 01/02/2021 17:42

@always**@alwaystired01@RaeRae84, cyclizine has significantly helped me. I had almost a week of minimal nausea, now slightly worse (in my 9th week so was expecting a peak) but I am able to eat fairly well. Overall still feel pretty grim but a far cry from how I was when I wrote this post.

@Birchtree4 thank you. Haven't called the midwife yet but going to this week and seeing what they suggest. I ordered some of those anti sickness bands that a few people suggested as well

Merrz · 02/02/2021 11:01

10 + 3 here and have felt a lot better yesterday and today, only sick twice yesterday and not at all today yet! I don't want to speak to soon because maybe this is just a couple days reprieve but weeks 8/9 were horrific and hopefully that's me over the worst (praying)

Pinkblueberry · 02/02/2021 11:02

12 or 13 weeks.

lucyrp · 02/02/2021 12:03

@Birchtree4 how many are you taking a day and do you feel awful every day? I was prescribed them and took them for the first few weeks but then get a good few days so don't bother taking it and then it builds back up again and I get bad. I can hardly eat anything at the moment but not as nauseous as I was, I'm only sick once a day normal days but then some I can be sick up to 10 times. I was told jot to take them if I don't need them but can't workout when I need them and don't 😭🤣

Birchtree4 · 02/02/2021 19:03

@RaeRae84 hope the midwife had some advice for you!

@Merrz That sounds like good news, hope it is still staying away for you! That would be ideal.

@lucyrp yes it is very difficult to say whether you feel sick enough to take them. I've made a deal with myself that, unless I have absolutely no nausea, I will take the full 3 a day until 12 weeks. If not better by then then will need to speak to GP about whether to continue. I still feel pretty rubbish in the late afternoon/evenings despite being on full dose.

I have started setting an alarm for 4am and taking one then, the mornings have been pretty good since I've been doing that. But obviously only do that if you're good at falling back to sleep!
