HI

Having sold all my stuff I am now pregnant with #3, this is definitely the last so don't want to spend a fortune. I've been looking on ebay but wondered how prices compared with the high street stores. We only have H+M here and C+A that do maternity so I think I'll get family to bring me some stuff from the UK. Does Asda do maternity?

Thanks Deb

Asda does do maternity or so I've been told. You will need someone to find a really big store that stocks it. M&S have some tracksuit bottoms for £9.50 www.marksandspencer.com/gp/product/B000JWRKCA/sr=1-3/qid=1193481759/ref=sr_1_3/203-8889727-9531157?i e=UTF8&node=57268031&m=A2BO0OYVBKIQJM&keywords=&mnSBrand=core&size=9&rh=&page= I have a pair of these and will buy a couple more as they are really comfy and can be under the bump as you grow. They are so cheap I won't feel guilty throwing them away when they are out of shape.

PhantomHaunteDDeath · 27/10/2007 11:48

Also, it might be worth spending some time on the mumsnet For Sale boards - I'm putting some of my maternity clothes/bras up there, sure others do as well!

Tommy · 27/10/2007 11:53

we've got an enormous Asda and they don't do maternity clothes so I wouldn't hold your breath on that one. New Look I think has just started doing them and they are always very reasonable. Also Dorothy Perkins stuff is good value

Wha size are you and where do your family live? I'm sure some MNetters would be glad to let you have some [smile

Curlygirly · 27/10/2007 12:34

Asda don't do maternity anymore. For this pregnancy I am mainly wearing Primark! Got a couple of pairs of good jeans/leggings from Next and have bought loads of lovely cheapy tops.

NBheebieGeebies · 27/10/2007 12:36

I was in the same boat as you 8 months ago
I've ended up buying larger sizes in normal clothes like joggers and have got some bits off mumsnetters.

Ebay is really good too.

ConnorTraceptive · 27/10/2007 12:37

I have just bought some nice bits from New Look. Very reasonably priced. £12 each for some knitted tops and jeans for £20. Only the larger stores carry the range though.

H&M are also doing 20% off when you spend £40 on maternity wear.

peskipixie · 27/10/2007 12:37

dont buy too many maternity tops, i got away with stretchy long sleeved t shirts. next do nice maternity wear, some of it is very reasonable

Heated · 27/10/2007 12:41

Mamas and Papas have a online maternity sale on at present - lots of £ off apparently.

MrsBadger · 27/10/2007 12:48

and remember you need less than you think - two or three trousers, certainly no more than 10 tops.
check out the non-mat clothes in Primark - I lived in the next size up of their linen tunics for my summer pregnancy.
If your folks are near or can get to a Next factory outlet (there are loads) they always have matwear and you can pick up some real bargains.

wobbegong · 27/10/2007 15:38

MrsBadger is right, you need far less than you think. just an idea- one way to save money is buy a bump bandeau thingummy, then just keep wearing your normal tops with than underneath. I use that technique and only have four "proper" maternity tops. Though I have to admit I am heartily sick of them!

Anarchymummy · 27/10/2007 15:45

Iv'e lived almost my whole pregnancy (7 weeks to go) in three pairs of maternity pants, knee length dresses over them and strappy tops.I'm now stealing my brother's and partner's t-shirts as mine don't stretch any more.

Iv'e found the cheapest option is to ask any friends whov'e recently given birth, charity shops and investing in one really decent pair of trousers that'll last all the way through.

I bought a lot of my things from New Look's Bloom range,A pair of black cords costs about £25.

ImBarryScott · 27/10/2007 15:49

Peacocks now does maternity, and the stuff looks quite nice.

I second the bump band idea - two of these from topshop at £5 each saw me a good way through my pregnancy without any maternity clothes at all.

Pinewood · 27/10/2007 15:52

I used a website for a few bits budgetbumps their 2nd hand stuff was fab & pretty reasonably priced.

debinaustria · 27/10/2007 19:46

Thanks everyone

new looks maternity jeans are only £12! bargin!

daisynova · 28/10/2007 13:21

I bought a capsule maternity wardrobe with a few pieces - Next Jeans that I live in, Dot Perkins black trousers for work, 6 tops in various colours, 1 pink jumper and a coat as it is now getting cold.

I also live overseas but buy things online in the UK, send it to my parents who then send it to me! Takes longer but it's better than some C&A stuff.

ernest · 28/10/2007 13:43

a lot of normal tops will do too, certainly for most of the pg. I got a few that are smocky/empire line style tops, - tunic tops that are quite loose and I'm hoping will last me most of the 9 months. Also, re bandeau, I had look in a maternity shop yesterday and they were selling these for about 24 euros /£18 but on clser inspetion a kids t shirt with arms upwards cut off, or even a vest top worn bandeau style under bust would serve exactly the same function.

There's very little by way of maternity stuff here in Switzerland either, and it's all v. expensive. I'd recommend the family bringing stuff out from UK option too.

ellehcim · 28/10/2007 13:53

Vertbaudet are very reasonable. I bought a lovely maternity coat and a number of skirts and tops form them. They often have sales on maternity wear too.

NAB3 · 28/10/2007 14:02

I can let you have some maternity cords for £12 delivered. Size 14.

lizziemun · 28/10/2007 15:25

i managed with a pair of jeans and a couple of crop trousers from next. All my tops i got from EVENS.

MrsMcSpooky · 28/10/2007 18:36

Try Littlewoods online, great sales, most of my tops have been under £5 and their mat jeans are really comfy

thelady · 28/10/2007 18:56

Got 3 pairs of jersey/viscose trousers from Next. Tops from Additions Direct (v. reasonable) and underwear from Matalan. I'd say I've spent around £100 on maternity stuff, and about the same on nursing PJs (4 sets) for afterwards.

feedmenow · 28/10/2007 19:05

I have mostly been shopping at Ebay! Got a fab bundle of 5 pairs of trousers for about £15 (all of which either were BNWT or in fab condition!) and a few tops for around £3 each.

choufleur · 28/10/2007 19:11

i found H&M lots cheaper than next, dorothy perkins, mothercare etc. try ebay too.

MrsBadger · 28/10/2007 19:22

nursing pjs waste of money imo
just wear normal buttoned ones
