HI

Having sold all my stuff I am now pregnant with #3, this is definitely the last so don't want to spend a fortune. I've been looking on ebay but wondered how prices compared with the high street stores. We only have H+M here and C+A that do maternity so I think I'll get family to bring me some stuff from the UK. Does Asda do maternity?

Thanks Deb

I agree with others who suggested a bump band to allow you to wear some of your 'normal' tops for longer - I got a black one for £3 from New Look - their new maternity range is good and hopefully you can shope online. I got a couple of things from Peacocks that were nice and also cheap (eg vests for £3). I'm still wearing them now with 'normal' cardigans over the top. Primark has been fab for me this year too - none of the stuff I bought was maternity but we have been lucky with the fashion for smock tops and loose fitting tunics.

Ebay has been great - quite often mum's are selling off bundles of clothes in certain sizes, particularly good if you're a big girl to begin with (like me!)

I invested in one pair of Next Mat jeans, I found the ones with the fabric belly band far better than the side panel sort, that dug into me in final stages.

Got cheap joggers from Matalan, a couple of sizes up.

As for tops, didnt need Mat stuff for first 5 mnths as loads of smock styles around.

New Look had reasonably cheap Mat wear, advise just one pair of trousers.

Rest I borrowed, but managed with very little really.

Enjoy your pregnancy

I was wondering what to do about a coat, but bought a chunky knit poncho which should see me through until December due date - don't know how cold it gets in Austria but might be a good idea as it's non-maternity so can be worn after? (Would never have thought about it if not pregnant but it actually looks quite stylish!!)

I've been thinking about a coat too - mine already feels too snug and I'm not due until June. I won't be huge until the last 3 months(I Hope) but April can still be snowy, will have to look out for something.

Freecycle.org is great! it's a forum that aims to keep stuff being reused and out of landfill (and get furniture while you're at it )
There are groups in most big (ish) towns so why not join yours, get free stuff, get rid of the old stuff that you or dp or dc no longer need (not actually dp or dc though!!!!) and do your bit for the planet at the same time?
If you post with what you are looking for, you will be amazed at what is lurking in other people houses that they no longer need.
Only mentioned freecycle here because free is the cheapest you can get!

JoJoMamanBebe warehouse Newport Sale on 10thNovember starts at 10am but queue at 9am - SUPER CHEAP and CHIC if you can make the journey. Most items i bought were £5, most expensive price at £10.00 to £15.00(jeans, dresses, tops, nursing tops, knitwear, cords) brand new. Also baby gear on sale - bring cash and extra large bag, like Ikea ones.

I'm with Bubalootie on Freecycle - and how about just getting some normal clothes in larger sizes from charity shops?

karinkarin · 02/11/2007 09:39

Try your local NCT sale. i'll be selling my old stuff there and usually pick up some great bargains for my daughter. M&S and mothercare dresses for £2! Look on www.nct.org.uk/local/ and select your postcode area and you'll see when sales' are on. Theere's one in Bridgend, south wales on nov 10th.

tinazza · 02/11/2007 11:26

I suggest a trip to Primark, the fashion of this year is full of dresses that looks like maternity dresses! I also bought a coat for 15 pounds which keeps me warm and has plenty of space for the bump even now that I am at 9 months!

Hi

Try a website called www.bloomingbumps.co.uk

This is a site where mums sell their used maternity clothes, all are in good condition and most importantly are reasonably priced.

mrsgboring · 03/11/2007 08:22

Big dresses from charity shops. Worn with (existing non maternity) cardigans and thick maternity tights in winter. Au naturel in summer. Coats, try your partner's if he is big enough. Total maternity wardrobe can be had for about thirty quid.
