Hello! I am around 6 weeks pregnant and already suffering with all day nausea and vomiting. I figure that it is just going to be about taking it day by day, and seeing what helps in each moment.
Today for me, it is lying down very still and sipping on water.... Envy

8 weeks and nauseous, dry retching and vomiting from 4 days before I missed my first period! Everyone keeps telling me it’ll pass and to hold out for 12 weeks... so I’m counting down the days!

I’ve been on antiemetics but they don’t stop the nausea and make me so tired. Have you spoken to a dr yet?

Hope you feel better soon and you can keep the water down. It’s just horrible when you feel like this and it’s so constant!

PegLegTrev · 04/01/2021 13:27

Sorry to hear this. With my first pregnancy I was sick 3-4x a day and felt awful, exhausted and just terrible day in and day out. Lying down wasn’t an option I was in a FT full on job.

I’m now on my third pregnancy (second successful, so far, pregnancy) and the sickness is nothing like the first. Such a relief. It does ease up for most women.

moonlightstarlight · 04/01/2021 13:29

Daffodil let's hope it does pass for you at 12 weeks! I am on the countdown too.

It is so exhausting!

I spoke to a doctor this morning over the phone, but he was quite blasé. I'm going to see how I go over the next week or so, and perhaps call back.

Have you found anything that gives you any relief?
Nibbling crisps is about the most I can manage so far.

Hang in girls. I’m 23 weeks now but I had sickness and nausea from 5 to 15 weeks. Hardest time ever but I got through it. You will too! At times I couldn’t get out of bed and would cry about why I had done this to myself. Lol.

Fruit pastille ice lollies and pear drops were my life saver. Chocolate digestive biscuits as well. I lived off McDonalds for about 6 weeks and baby is absolutely fine so don’t worry about eating whatever you can keep down, healthy or not.

Thisisbananas3 · 04/01/2021 13:41

This is what frustrated me too, the Dr was blasé initially and said it’s normal. I actually said to him do you really think I’d be calling you if I didn’t think this was unusual? I spent a good week wondering how women go about their usual day and work as normal when I couldn’t get my head out the loo. He didn’t ask me frequency of sickness so when I told him he suddenly said he was doing a prescription and telling me what to do it I couldn’t keep anything down for 24 hours and what my options were then. So if it is getting worse and you’re worried, please call again. (Having said that I really didn’t want to take the tablets but the idea of hospital was worse!)

But you’re right, exhausting and debilitating! There are ladies on here with HG and I don’t know how they cope.

Relief.. honestly it depends how I feel when I wake up. It’s like I’ll suddenly be hungry and need to eat immediately- I’ll have a cake or something soft. Otherwise I eat salt and vinegar crisps (the vinegar takes over the horrible taste that’s constantly in my mouth) and flat lemonade. I tried ginger tea and biscuits but that was like vomiting fire.

I’ve been wearing sea bands daily for a month and find being somewhere cold helps, but I have had no foods etc that have eased it unfortunately. If I find anything I’ll let you know! I’ve managed to lose 4 kilos over December, which is a first for Christmas!

I am also ridiculously constipated too, guess it’s all coming out the other hand!!!

I truly hope you feel better soon. If I find anything that’s working well I’ll let you know xx

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 04/01/2021 13:43

Sorry you're all going through this. I was extremely ill from 5 weeks (its the first indicator I was pregnant). Honestly at the time I very seriously considered a termination. I just couldn't imagine going through it all again. I asked for advice on here and people advised I go to the doctor for medication (had no idea there was such a thing with my first 2 pregnancies and just became depressed) I had 3 different types of tablets, ended up on a combination of the second and third lot. It helped bit didn't take it away.
While you are living it, it feels like it will never end, but it does. I still get sick every now and then bit nothing like the first 20 weeks, it eased a lot by 27 weeks and now I'm 37 weeks.
My advice is don't suffer through. Go and ask the doctor for help. Mine were fantastic and just prescribed something over the phone eveytime. I had to make one visit to have blood pressure taken.
It's jot something you should be expected to just put up with.

moonlightstarlight · 04/01/2021 13:43

That's it, I think it's about trying to remember there is a light at the end of the tunnel!
Thanks for the positive thoughts.

A bit gross, but I also really worry about what to eat, and what is likely to taste "the best" or "the least worst" when it all comes back up EnvyConfused

Thisisbananas3 · 04/01/2021 13:43

@Lifeonmars12 until 15 weeks!!! Gosh you poor thing. So pleased to hear you’re through it; do you still get random sicky days? Fruit pastilles sound pretty good right about now!

Thank you for your positive words x

Meredithgrey1 · 04/01/2021 13:43

Speak to the GP again, they shouldn’t be blasé about it.
For me, juicy green Granny Smith apples helped for some reason. I’d be nibbling on one all day sometimes, I think the sourness of them helped.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 04/01/2021 13:46

Both doctors inspoke to were women. I did try midwifes in my last pregnancies bit they were bloody useless and gave me old wives takes of sports drinks Hmm and ginger biscuits. Eh no!

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 04/01/2021 13:48

Ah so many mistake!

moonlightstarlight · 04/01/2021 13:49

@Thisisbananas3 I'll be sure to get back in touch if things get worse, especially if I find I can't keep fluids down.
I also have some wrist bands on the way!!

Lol about the "vomit like fire" ... The ginger nuts didn't work for me either, so there's a packet of them in the cupboard which nobody likes

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that you find something that helps soon!

@Iminaglasscaseofemotion oh dear! Sorry to hear you suffered for so long. But it is such a relief I bet to be out on the other side.

This is my second pregnancy but much much worse than I remember!

moonlightstarlight · 04/01/2021 13:50

So weird some of the things you suddenly feel like you can stomach!
I had one of those sugary rainbow belts you find in a pick and mix. I just needed it and it made me feel better immediately, for about 5 minutes... so probably not the best one to munch all day !

OP posts:
Mommabear20 · 04/01/2021 13:59

Dry cream crackers really helps me, especially on a morning before getting out of bed.
I'm on cyclizine hydrochloride tablets which help keep the sickness at bay even if it doesn't fully help the nausea.
This is my second (currently 10 weeks) and although it doesn't feel like it now, it does get better in time!

Lifeonmars12 · 04/01/2021 14:54

@Thisisbananas3

Nope I haven’t had any sicky days since. I do however get horrendous heartburn that can make me feel sick at times but it’s not the same as the nausea and using a swig of gaviscon and it’s gone.

Thisisbananas3 · 04/01/2021 17:33

@Iminaglasscaseofemotion you had it for 27 weeks!!! The thought makes me cry! Glad it’s eased up for you know. I really wish ginger was the magical cure everyone says it is lol

@Mommabear20 is the hydrochloride medication drowsy making in your experience?

@Lifeonmars12 oh that’s good to hear, thank you! Thank goodness for gaviscon :)

@moonlightstarlight how are you feeling now? I’m pleased that sweetie made you feel better for a little while! lol yes we have ginger biscuits in the cupboard that will sit there til they go soggy! Yuk! I’ve just finished so am hoping I can just sleep the sickness away...

PutOnAHappyFace · 04/01/2021 17:46

I'm nearly 12 weeks and it's just easing now, well some days aren't as bad as others but it does get better. I've been on medication since 6 weeks and it's been unbearable. If you need to get some anti sickness then do it ASAP and remember it won't last forever. Even though it's bloody miserable sometimes.

moonlightstarlight · 04/01/2021 17:52

@Thisisbananas3 I actually feel a little bit better this evening.
You can kind of feel it lingering not too far away, trying to stop obsessing in my thinking of it, sometimes I wonder if I think myself in to feeling sick!

@PutOnAHappyFace glad to hear you're feeling better, hopefully you're coming to the end of it!
Did you find the medication helped with the nausea or just vomiting?

I almost find the nausea worse than vomiting!

OP posts:
PutOnAHappyFace · 04/01/2021 18:03

I've tried buccastem which drastically reduced the vomitting but still nausea. And cyclizine which I found still vomitted but had more periods of no nausea. But without either I was vomiting 7+ times a day so I took it as a win.

I was so reluctant to try meds but honestly, I don't know how I would of coped with out them. And strongly recommend them.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 04/01/2021 18:15

@Thisisbananas3, with both of my last pregnancies, I had It right the way through. Horrendous. Having an active job that had me starting at 7.30am and finishing at 5.30pm, and self employed so couldn't afford any time off didn't help 🤣. Luckily I'm off now and I've been lying in bed for the last 3 days while dp does most housework and childcare, but my 2 are older so can amuse themselves to a certain extent.

I really hope this gets better for everyone. I've had weeks, even on the medication, where I just felt like I couldn't go on at all. Get help, and take time off to rest if you can.

mariebaby3 · 04/01/2021 18:17

Currently 12+3 and have been suffering from all day nausea and sickness since 6 weeks. I feel a shell of my former self! I have cyclizine from the GP which has helped me function a bit better I
ie I’m not in bed all day every day now. Please speak to you Drs if you’re really suffering - they can help.

Sleepyjeanie · 04/01/2021 18:20

I feel you ladies. I’m currently 10 weeks and have been vomiting on and off every day (approx 8xperday) since week 6. Horrendous. Some days are better than others. I’m on anti sickness tablets and like other women on this thread I have been at the point of being quite depressed (still there I think...) and also at my wits end. This is my second pregnancy and with first I seem to remember it getting slightly better by about 20 weeks but it never really went away.

Bloody midwife today didn’t seem at all bothered by it!!! She like “ah well if you need support here’s a number to call and eat crackers...” yeah okay, thanks!

Vent over Angry

Mommabear20 · 04/01/2021 18:43

@Thisisbananas3 no, I'm definitely tired but that's just pregnancy, it's not anymore tired since taking it.

moonlightstarlight · 05/01/2021 08:56

@Sleepyjeanie @mariebaby3 hi both!

Sorry to hear you're suffering too :(

How are yous ok today? I had to drag myself out of bed this morning, could have stayed there all day I think.
Feeling slightly queasy but haven't eaten yet, just managed to have a cup of tea. I think I'm going to brave some toast soon...

Sleepyjeanie · 05/01/2021 09:13

Morning! Feeling pretty dreadful but managed to keep some breakfast down this morning. I stayed in bed too. First time I’ve done that in years! But I needed too as I was so sick yesterday. I think the downer for me was after being sick for the 12th time that day, I had three tiny sips of water and brought it straight back up. At that point I gave up and just went to bed! Glad you’ve kept your tea down! Let’s hope for a better day today, thinking of you today, and here if you want a chat xx
