Pram advice for FTM......It’s all so confusing! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Happy New Year everyone!

I know there have been a few threads like this recently and I have been watching several and looking up all the various prams which have been suggested. I’m just so confused by all the choices!

I thought if I list the type of pram me and DH are looking for, some kind mumsnetter’s might offer some advice please!

• We will mainly be using the pram (pushchair & carrycot type set up) for A-B local journeys in the car so it needs to be easily foldable.

• Pushchair should be both forward and rear facing and can adjust seat positions.

• Good steering, suspension, sturdy and durable.

• When out walking we are unlikely to be anywhere too adventurous, it will be around the local area on pavements, paths and in the park.

• 4 wheeler not 3.

• The fabric parts ideally need to be removable and washable.

• A good size basket underneath.

• Car seat advice would also be appreciated. This seems like another area of confusion!

Thank you for reading!

Bugaboo chameleon. It’s quite chunky when folded down, but I think it meets all your criteria. I think ours is great.

FingersCrossedForAllOfUs · 02/01/2021 18:50

HDready - Thank you for responding so quickly, I will have a look at that one.

I got the as a FTM Maxi Cosi Adorra and it has everything you've written above and I love it so much. The carrycot is foldable as is everything else and its so easy to pop on the carrycot or car seat or pram seat and take it off and change around.

I loved my silvercross wayfarer Chelsea. It was 3.5 years ago though so not sure if they are still in production.

chickensoup23 · 02/01/2021 19:15

Uppababy vista - literally love mine!!

ParkheadParadise · 02/01/2021 19:23

Good Luck
When we went Pram Shopping it nearly ended in Divorce.
Bloody hours we were in that shop. The assistant saw us coming. She bombarded us with questions
3 wheels/ 4 wheels
Travel system
Colour
Car seat
DH finally lost the plot and told me to pick a pram, any pram.
It cost us nearly £1,000

freckledsloth · 02/01/2021 19:26

Bugaboo Fox-ticks all your boxes and we love ours. We bought the adapters so that we could put our car seat on the wheels if we were making short trips or if DD was asleep, having that flexibility made life so much easier when she was small.

Hiya. I'm on baby number 3 so we have had various prams/pushchairs over the years.
I'm best one is the Baby Jogger City Mini but it's a 3 wheeler so doesn't fit your criteria. I also wouldn't use it until more toddler age so we have just bought a Joie Versatrax travel system! Not even had it out of the box yet (baby due June). I liked the look of this one because it has a huge basket underneath and the pushchair attachment can be both front and rear facing (it's a 4 wheeler). We bought it as a package that came with a carseat that can clip on to the chassis and it also came with a carrycot. We paid just over £400 for all of it which was very reasonable.
I hope you manage to find something suitable for you, I still find the whole process overwhelming!! Best of luck xx

I could bore for Britain about this but the best EVERRRRRRRRR buggy I had was the 2015 Mamas and Papas Armadillo XT. Got it with bassinette and Cybex Aton Q car seat and it was the best buggy I ever had.

We had to give it up as #2 came along rather earlier than we planned and it doesn’t “double” but it absolutely sh*ts all over the buggies I’ve had since including the iCandy Peach, a second hand Bugaboo and (dare I say it) our current Out n About.

I’ve dreamt about that buggy and missed it much more than some exes.

FingersCrossedForAllOfUs · 02/01/2021 19:41

Thank you all so much for taking the time to reply, I will look at all of these models.

@ParkheadParadise - Thank you! You made me and DH laugh! I could easily see the same thing happening with us but because of all the restrictions I think we might be spared the ‘joy’ of physical pram shopping!
Dare I ask which one you decided on in the end? I don’t mean to bring back any unhappy memories!

You could consider a mamas and papas ocarro, think that would fit most of your list and for a sturdy pushchair it folds to one of the most compact sizes of its type. I know the fabric of the carrycot is removable and washable, not sure about the pushchair. The only issue is it’s abit heavy lifting into car boot but manageable! Is generally very well reviewed

alex1889 · 02/01/2021 19:52

What's your budget OP?

I've had Bugaboo Cameleon and the new iCandy Peach... much preferred the iCandy!

Around the same price £1,000ish mark once you add car seat adapters, foot muffs for winter etc.

laura2109 · 02/01/2021 19:53

I personally can't justify the overpriced travel systems I've seen around, they all essentially do the same thing. Granted, some might be better quality but even then, grossly overpriced. Anyway, we went for the Red kite fusion, I tried in store, it had everything needed, was easy to steer etc, fold, is lightweight and comes with raincover. We had to buy the changing bag separately though, the grand total was £289.

FelicityBob · 02/01/2021 20:02

Don’t get a silver cross pioneer, it’s shit.
If you plan on having two close together than get something that converts to a double.
Or swap to an out and about nipper double which is amazing.
Three wheelers are also amazing for pushing with one hand.
Don’t get blinded by the beautiful expensive travel systems. They are bulky and heavy and you’re likely to swap to a stroller after a year.

EssentialHummus · 02/01/2021 20:09

I’d go one step back OP - why four wheels not three, for example? From your list the most important criteria seem to be sturdy, big basket, fits into car boot. Go with that.

boymum88 · 02/01/2021 20:14

icandy peach all the way, yes they are expensive but I think worth it, have used it from birth and still using it now as ds can't walk at 2 1/2 yrs due having cp. it still looks brand new, have also purchased another seat for 2ds so def gettin money's worth
Just wait until they go on sale plenty of bargains to be had about.
Car seat : maxi cosi ( can also attach to the peach frame although think we did that once as it's not recommend to have baby's in car seats for long periods, they need to be laid flat) xx

Runkle · 02/01/2021 20:15

I like the look of this one Hauck Eagle
You can get it as just the stroller or as a travel system. It's the lightest reversible on the market.

Pumpkinangel · 02/01/2021 20:16

I highly recommend the uppababy Cruz, such a brilliant pram, I managed to get mine on offer at Trendybaby.com :) easy to assemble and clean, very strong too. I currently use a cosatto stroller now as my little one is 2 but have just found out I’m pregnant so will use my uppababy pram again :)

NoNameIdeas · 02/01/2021 20:24

Uppababy Vista - they are amazing!

ParkheadParadise · 02/01/2021 20:27

@FingersCrossedForAllOfUs
I was so busy reliving that nightmare I forgot to say what pram we ended up with.
We went with a Venicci 3 in 1
The carrycot was great, dd slept in it downstairs during the day and was in it for a good 6months. The buggy part we didn't use for that long ended up getting a folding buggy.

When it arrived dh was still pissed off about how much it had cost, turns out we had also bought a hand muff to keep your hands warm as you pushed it🤣🤣 @£60
The first time we managed to venture outside the wheel fell off in the driveway🤣🤣🤣
I loved the pram it was comfortable to push.

Stanleyrainbow · 02/01/2021 20:30

We had a vista too!

sesquipedalia · 02/01/2021 20:30

Uppa Baby Vista here too. But got it second hand in eBay. Immaculate condition and only £200. Doing us proud two years in. Worth considering pre loved in my opinion

FelicityBob · 02/01/2021 20:32

My sister in law had the uppababy vista and said it didn’t fit through some standard width doors as it’s so wide

Caspianberg · 02/01/2021 20:33

If your in and out the car, one that can be used from newborn without a separate carrycot is probably easier.

The bugaboo bee could work. It can be used with the bugaboo bee cocoon on main seat in newborn instead of the extra carrycot so would fold quickly in one piece for car. Faces both ways, relatively lightweight, and wouldn’t need to down size later.

ForeverHomeSearcher · 02/01/2021 20:52

We're using out vista two years on. It's just so much better than a stroller that we never felt the need to switch like other people did. The main thing i don't like about it is the hood doesn't have as good coverage as the bugaboo (although it does have a window in it). However that has been fixed in the latest model. It converts to a double which we'll be trialing out. The configurations aren't as good as the silver cross wave.

It is wide but I've never not fitted through a doorway. I'd check any pushchair fits in your boot.

I also liked the Fox but my dh didn't.

We found magic beans on YouTube good for reviews and comparisons.
