Pram advice for FTM......It’s all so confusing! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Happy New Year everyone!

I know there have been a few threads like this recently and I have been watching several and looking up all the various prams which have been suggested. I’m just so confused by all the choices!

I thought if I list the type of pram me and DH are looking for, some kind mumsnetter’s might offer some advice please!

• We will mainly be using the pram (pushchair & carrycot type set up) for A-B local journeys in the car so it needs to be easily foldable.

• Pushchair should be both forward and rear facing and can adjust seat positions.

• Good steering, suspension, sturdy and durable.

• When out walking we are unlikely to be anywhere too adventurous, it will be around the local area on pavements, paths and in the park.

• 4 wheeler not 3.

• The fabric parts ideally need to be removable and washable.

• A good size basket underneath.

• Car seat advice would also be appreciated. This seems like another area of confusion!

Thank you for reading!

If you are using a car your number one priority is to make sure it fits (mine didn't!)

I've been looking at the infababy website and like the infababy ultimo

infababy.com/travel-systems/infababy-ultimo-4-wheel-3-in-1-travel-system-space-grey

Here's the link but they have some others as well

Thank you all so much for the advice and recommendations of models. The tip given by many of you to go for the one which looks and feels right for us is a really good one because at the moment it does feel so overwhelming! The list from you brilliant people on this thread is at 17 so far by my dodgy maths and we will be researching each and every one!
We’re just not sure whether to hold on now until shops are open again in our area so that we can actually try some out. Or just go for it and order online once we’ve decided whilst the sales are on! Baby is due in April so we have time, we’re just wondering if any more decent pram sales are likely to happen between now and then or if this is it!

We were given an uppababy vista that has been through two babies before ours and it feels really sturdy and great if you are a bit taller (which me and DP are). We also have an out n about nipper - I know, a three wheeler - but it is so manoeuvrable and turns on a sixpence! It feels really robust and my DP has already christened that buggy as the ‘off roader’! 😂

GreySkyClouds · 03/01/2021 17:54

I’m torn between the uppababy vista v2 and the nuna Demi grow. It’s so hard not knowing when shops will reopen. I was told that the Egg2 is on back order until March/April

Onebabyandamadcat · 03/01/2021 17:58

My pram is a venicci. Bought when my first pram broke and my DD was 6 weeks old. Not the most expensive model but I love it. DD stayed in the carrycot until around 5 months - it had plenty of space. Then moved onto the buggy part. She's now 2 and it's still my only buggy - easy to fold, great suspension and fits in my husband's wee Skoda fabia boot.

It can be parent or forward facing and all the fabric comes out to wash. The tyres are rubber and can be inflated if needed.

I would 100% recommend going in person rather than ordering online. When I went a few weeks ago I was sure I'd love some brands, but ended up with a totally different one. The actual feeling of it (weight, ease of turning, height of handle) is so important
ParkheadParadise · 03/01/2021 19:02

@FingersCrossedForAllOfUs
You need to go in person.
You can both have turns of pushing all the prams around the shop 😂😂

FingersCrossedForAllOfUs · 03/01/2021 20:07

@ParkheadParadise & @alessandra27 - I think you have persuaded me to wait until we can go to view these prams in person! We don’t want to rush into it just because of the sales, order online and then regret it.

P.s. ParkheadParadise - I’m hoping me and DH can cope with the experience after your previous vivid description of how your pram shopping went 😂🤣
@FelicityBob can I ask why you don't like the pioneer? I heard complaints about the wheels for the original model but the remodeled pioneer 2020 seems to have sorted it. This is the one we're considering at the moment, just wondered if there's anything else to look out for
The carrycot is lovely, absolutely loved it when my babies were little and in that, but after 5 months they not longer fit and so you then use the seat unit. I just found it so bulky and clumpy. Plus it’s impossible to push with one hand which is really important when you have another child. After having a three wheeler which pushes like a dream I’d never recommend a big travel system again.

Baby Jogger City Premier. It's a beast when up, but folds down smaller than a Bugaboo Bee.

sproutsnbacon · 03/01/2021 20:23

Silver cross linear freeway but is no longer in production, can get very good condition second hand ones and new car seats to fit.
It’s very very strong.
There are always offers on newer silver cross models on the website, they also have an outlet page. Last I bought something and didn’t check it out immediately I was sent a 10% off code.

I use my linear freeway quite a lot but I also have a baby jogger city mini double.

TH22 · 03/01/2021 20:29

I've got the Cybex Easy Twist.

I wanted something lightweight yet all terrain, one handed fold, can be front or rear facing. I've got the Cybex lie flat car seat, which attaches to the pram. It also has a swivel base for the car, so no awkward bending to get it in!

Ginandshinythings · 03/01/2021 20:30

We went with the bugaboo donkey. Bugaboo because of the endless possibilities, accessories I could buy to change it up if I wanted to and because the sheer ease of steering. Also, when collapsing the pram it's fairly straight forward, if it's white you unclip it, which helped my husband!

We went for the donkey as we planned to have two children close together. That plan changed so now I have the under seat basket and a side basket for storage. I always get stopped and complimented on it in our village.

Carseat joie 360 spin, amazing. As baby grows, you remove padding so it should still accommodate your four year old. Obviously it's fixed and cannot be removed and put on the pram, I had a c section so this took the strain out of putting baby in and out of the car. Currently pregnant again and my toddler can climb into the seat and then I spin him round. We've just brought another one in the argos sale.

Best of luck with this exciting time!

grisen · 03/01/2021 20:42

We have the SilverCross Pioneer and have used it every day for the past 2 years and never had any issue with the wheels buckling.

We used the carrycot for about 7 months on the pram and he slept in it on the floor until he was about 9 months old. My worry about he seat unit not being as comfortable were null and void as even now at nearly two he still prefers sleeping in the seat unit over bed.

I’ve never struggled steering it one handed, and over every other pram and stroller I’ve tried and borrowed I prefer it.

11th vote for the Uppababy Vista! I went through MANY prams and pushchairs for my daughter, (as a FTM) and although I had one really good one, (Aussie brand, not made anymore 😔) I just really wanted the Vista 😅
Another mummy at my parents group had one. She showed me all of the features, let me push it and I then researched it and fell in love with it.

This time around I have been are to afford to buy one and I am hopeful that this pregnancy is successful so that I may actually be able to use it 🤞

ParkheadParadise · 03/01/2021 21:06

@FingersCrossedForAllOfUs
I'm sure you will both be fine pram shopping.
But I'll look out for your next thread " Divorcing DH over Pram Wars" 😂🤣😂🤣😂

Jellybean81 · 03/01/2021 21:16

Another vote for the uppababy vista! It has the biggest basket ever and very easy to push. Even after a good three years use it looks like new - so much so it's been saved for if we have another. Downside is it is quite wide - problem if you take a lot of public transport and you will need a big boot. It was great on all terrains - sand, walks, cobbles etc as it has lovely wheels. The carrycot is very spacious and was the best ventilated of all we looked at which I felt made it truly suitable for overnight sleeping.

FingersCrossedForAllOfUs · 03/01/2021 22:09

Thanks again to everyone who has taken the time to post and give advice, it has been such an education and much appreciated!

@Ginandshinythings - Thank you for the advice and your good wishes.

@Aeon6 - Yes the uppababy vista is very popular on this thread, it will definitely make the test drive short list! Best of luck with your pregnancy 🤞

@ParkheadParadise - The pram wars experience is looking quite likely, so I will be sure to tag you into the inevitable new thread 🤣

@Jellybean81 - The uppababy vista is certainly popular, it really sounds great. My only concern is the size and getting through some doors and if it will fit okay in our car boot. I’m really keen to test drive one now though!

Have you looked at this?
The best thing ever.
Light, no hassle to fold and so convenient.

Nat6999 · 04/01/2021 03:38

Get the cheapest, lightest pram you can, before you know it you will be buying a MacLaren type buggy & the pram will gather dust because it takes up too much room in the car.
