What's the feeling of waters breaking?

FTM here! I'm 40 weeks this coming Tuesday 😬. Just curious what is the feeling of waters breaking? Is it like you really need to go for a wee? Or you literally have no warning what's so ever and it just comes out of you? Like most pregnant mummas I'm constantly up and down to ten toilet especially half asleep at night! Worried I might mistaken the urge to go to the toilet and my waters breaking?

Four children and I never had my waters break!

Mine were all done manually during labour. In fact my last baby was born with the sac intact.

peachypetite · 31/12/2020 13:01

Mine was an absolutely spectacular gush

DogsNosesAreCute · 31/12/2020 13:02

Got up at 5.30am went for a wee, just got back in bed laid down and felt a weird pressure sensation then waters flooded everything

BeTheHokeyMan · 31/12/2020 13:03

I felt like I had to wee, went to the loo and sat there for ages I thought wow that's some wee Blush Then realised it wasn't wee at all but my waters Grin

I felt and heard a small pop, knew it was waters straight away. I was already contracting so was laying on a large pad. Whipped it on the floor and then they were gushing out of me before I knew it. Called the hospital and they said to call back in an hour if I'd filled a sanitary pad. Called back five minutes later when I'd filled five, soaking wet.

Candycats · 31/12/2020 13:25

Mine went when I was sat on the toilet going for a wee 😂 but it felt different to having a wee, obviously you've got no control over it. They kept trickling after that, went through my maternity pad and soaked my pyjama bottoms when I was in the maternity unit which was lovely!

KaptainKaveman · 31/12/2020 13:27

Mine felt like something tearing inside (although there wasn't any pain, it's a weird sensation) followed by water leaking out, quite warm as I recall.

FlowerTink · 31/12/2020 13:31

Echoing everyone talking about the pop - Mine went with both DC and I heard it loudly and felt a 'pop', then its a gush. Mine went with no warning and you have no control over it so it does just come out as it wants, mine was a gush but some people have a trickle.

AliasGrape · 31/12/2020 13:36

A definite pop and then a gush here.

I naively thought that was it and so just popped a sanitary pad in for the drive to the hospital - I was absolutely drenched by the time we got there, as was DH's new car, I then continued to leak all over the carpark, through the entrance and all along the corridor to triage where they had to check to confirm my waters had definitely broken - not sure what else that volume of fluid could have been Grin

adjsavedmylife · 31/12/2020 13:41

First time: first sign of labour, massive pressure then like lots of popping bubbles then film-style flooding of so much water. Was on the street on a cold night, it felt very warm. Followed by more waters being released every so often for a few hours until contractions started properly.

Second time, also first sign of labour. Just a small polite trickle this time.

RandomUsernameHere · 31/12/2020 13:41

I wasn't aware of it! I just felt my underwear was a tiny bit damp, so changed it but it kept happening.

LemonDrizzles · 31/12/2020 13:49

My waters broke on their own with dc1. I felt a gushing, then a trickle. By the way, it just keeps on trickling until the baby comes out

ParkheadParadise · 31/12/2020 13:52

With dd2 I was in the car park on my mums care home.
I was walking to the car with DH and my sister. I felt a pop and my waters gushed out (all over dh's trainers). I remember thinking omg I've wet myself 😂😂😂.
Dd was born 40mins later having just made it to the hospital.

Bogardicia · 31/12/2020 23:16

Like a massive balloon popping inside and then a waterfall pouring out.

Wannabangbang · 31/12/2020 23:17

A soaking wet bed after a popping sensation. And it smells sweet and totally different to urine.

Wannabangbang · 31/12/2020 23:18

And it continues to trickle at varying degrees

CeeceeBloomingdale · 31/12/2020 23:20

Pop, huge whoosh of water (which keeps on renewing, wasn't prepared for that). Nothing like the feeling of needing to pee but I still had a wobble that I'd peed myself rather than waters breaking.

OllyBJolly · 31/12/2020 23:21

I was in bed and I am sure I heard a pop that woke me up. Then felt the gush. There was so much water I could not fathom where it all came from. Gushed and dripped constantly until delivery.

SinkGirl · 31/12/2020 23:31

Mine only leaked a bit and then stopped. I genuinely couldn’t tell if it was wee or waters. I thought some went when I was on the loo as I had stopped going then heard more fluid hit the water but honestly wasn’t sure where it came from, as my bladder was not doing well by that point in pregnancy! Then there was some more in my underwear half an hour later but not a lot, then it just stopped so I figured it must have been wee. (Apparently the head can move down and act a bit like a plug and stop more leaking out)

That night I felt really unwell - headache, couldn’t sleep and just felt weird. Midwife sent me in for a check up and I had an EMCS within a couple of hours of arriving.

So my waters never properly “went” despite having two sacs, but DH saw them pop DT2’s bag and said he couldn’t believe how much fluid there was. Glad they didn’t break all over my bed 😂 I would definitely get a waterproof mattress cover if you haven’t already (will be good for leaky boobs and weeing baby anyway!)

ShireMama · 31/12/2020 23:43

During labour, no pop for me, had a contraction was physically sick then I felt like I'd wet myself but there was hardly anything there! Didn't even come through to my leggings. I did have a maternity pad in my pants and it seemed to soak it all up very quickly! I wasn't aware it was my waters till the midwife checked me again and said they'd gone in between checks.

Terracottasaur · 31/12/2020 23:48

Hard to describe but don’t worry - you won’t mistake it for a pee. It’s much more involuntary than that.

Nsky · 31/12/2020 23:55

I never felt mine, 1st baby in labour ( was drugged up), 2nd baby midwife broke them

Sheleg · 01/01/2021 00:56

I felt a pop and then a gush onto the puppy pad the midwife had put under me!

AllDressedUpForMyselfOnly · 01/01/2021 00:59

Mine happened at home when the strongest contraction came on...then all of a sudden a 'gush' came out.

olderthanyouthink · 01/01/2021 00:59

I woke up and felt a pop then they trickled the 10 or so hours, irritating the life out of me with the constant wet feeling.
