Waxing before giving birth

I do a brazilian wax regularly and am quite use to it. I do it myself. It’s a personal preference.

Will it be ok to wax towards the end of pregnancy around 39 weeks? Or is it best to avoid it?

Can you reach?
And why would you even bother?

Neolara · 25/12/2020 23:12

As above.

BrimFullOfAsher · 25/12/2020 23:15

You're going to get an abundance of people judging you for how you chose to adorn your own body. Ignore them.

Yes you can still wax, but you may well not be able to reach so may want to book in somewhere

Hope54321 · 25/12/2020 23:19

Yes, I can reach and it’s a personal preference. I don’t do it to please anyone else but myself. I prefer waxing to shaving.

Odd thread not asure what you want from it? If you want to and you can then do it. If your wondering is it sdafe I don,t think their is anything to say it is not safe. But do you need to absolutely not, would anyone actualy notice/bother probably not.

EreLongDoneDoDoesDid · 25/12/2020 23:23

I honestly honestly couldn’t have been fucked by that stage. I was knackered and uncomfortable and my pubes were the least of my concern. But if you want to I’m sure it’s fine. That said, literally not a single soul who’s going to be looking will give a toss, so if that’s your concern it needn’t be.

ChristmasArmadillo · 25/12/2020 23:23

Yes, I always do, though it’s nicer to have someone else do it as it’s quite the workout by then! I always have my toenails done for birth also.

pigletpie2177 · 25/12/2020 23:23

I recall from last pregnancy that (and granted this was when signing forms for elective c section) they tell you not to shave/wax for 3 weeks beforehand incase of infection so I imagine that would be the technical advice. That said, I couldn't cope with the idea of leaving it and so still did it 🙈

FromtheZoo · 25/12/2020 23:24

I had a Hollywood wax at 39 weeks pregnant. I didn't do it myself because I'm not that skilled even when not pregnant but it is fine to do!

gebs · 25/12/2020 23:30

I had a Hollywood and had dd two days later (she was early), was having wax's every 6/7 weeks while pregnant as normal

Regularsizedrudy · 25/12/2020 23:32

Oh god these threads always turn into a complete cluster fuck, surely you know that op? Of course it’s fine, if you can reach knock yourself out. Why would it be a problem?

Hope54321 · 25/12/2020 23:56

Just to emphasise again, I don’t do it to please other people. So please don’t assume that I do it because of what other people may think of it. I don’t spend so much time on mumsnet so wasn’t aware that these types of threads cause problems.

I should have phrased my question better. What i was meaning to ask was is it safe to wax around this time? Some of you have been helpful. Thank you for your responses.

I got my hollywood done on 24th before going into lockdown and having my baby on 14 Jan. bloody go for it! My waxing lady said she's done women in their 40th week :)

Dominoz · 26/12/2020 00:07

Don't be worried and it's a completely valid question to ask. Go for it. I did and the beauticians were fine. Good luck xxx

NatriumChloride · 26/12/2020 03:33

Hey OP. People on here go very crazy about the idea of you removing body hair because OMG YOUVE BEEN INFLUENCED BY PORNSTARS AND YOU'RE TRYING TO LOOK UNDERAGE! Hmm

Ignoring all that sort of BS, I'd say go for it. It's absolutely safe to do although it might feel a little more painful than normal due to increased blood flow to the area. From personal experience I didn't notice a difference in pain at all, and I had a Hollywood done one day before delivering my second baby!

ZadieZadie · 26/12/2020 03:59

I didn't bother, but next time I will.

Being shaved on the c section table isn't dignified.

Catsup · 26/12/2020 04:15

It was moons ago but I just went with hair removal cream pre labour and just slapped it on and rinsed it off in the shower. Clearly each to their own but for me personally it was more for an 'easy clean' perspective vs a 'porn star look' 🙄 that some folk seem insistent on declaring must be the case if you don't choose to sport pubes. My personal sanitary wear choice is not towels so for me being pube free felt a good call. It's not all about 'the look' for those that are naysayers. Do what's right for you OP.

NiceGerbil · 26/12/2020 04:19

Why wouldn't it be safe?

I'm amazed you can reach though!

vodkaredbullgirl · 26/12/2020 04:25

Just do it, never did with my 2.

allthewaterinthetap · 26/12/2020 04:45

It's up to you - I heard you just need to be sure your skin isn't more fragile/stretched because that might harm it.

FestiveStuffing · 26/12/2020 04:47

Well, reasons not to are a risk of infection- I've always been advised against it for labour and used a trimmer to make it short rather than going for full removal.

habibihabibi · 26/12/2020 04:51

For my first section, despite being neat but not all clear, I was shaved really brutally. I got it waxed all off before the next section. At least then OP you have a month or so after the birth not to bother.

Alakasam · 27/12/2020 10:03

I believe there's some evidence that waxing or shaving prior to birth aren't great, particularly shaving - all the small abrasions cause increased risk of infection.

Diddlysquatty · 27/12/2020 12:58

Be prepared for it to be more painful than usual!

I went for a bikini line wax in a salon at around 39 wks, I nearly told her not to do the second side as it stung so much! (More than usual). I think the whole area becomes more sensitive

I don’t know of any particular increased risk though

Littleyell · 27/12/2020 13:00

@ZadieZadie

I didn't bother, but next time I will.

Being shaved on the c section table isn't dignified.

Gosh. I would of hated that too!
