Hi all

Just interested to see what everyone's Company Maternity Pay is like?

OP posts:

3 full, 3 half, 3 stat, 3 nothing
Get the 3 half months topped up to full as a bonus if you return though.
Work in FMCG

Unfortunately if you go onto shared parental leave you just get statutory which is a shame. We currently think DH will take the final 3 months because of this

Crap!! 6 weeks 90% of usual pay & then SMP with a 25% top up for 3 weeks!! I don’t know how they expect to survive on that, when we’re only £1 above minimum wage as it is!!

ALew15 · 22/12/2020 17:36

I need to double check but I think it's 6 weeks at 90% then SSP until 9 months. If I wanted to take 12 months, the last 3 would be unpaid. I'm a Dental Nurse, privately owned practice with NHS contract so not directly employed by NHS so I don't get the benefits.

luxxlisbon I can’t explain it, I’m hormonal as hell. It’s just to me - I’m the pregnant one, going through the physical/ emotional slug of pregnancy/ childbirth/ and however much even the most willing hands on dad does, still so much falls on the mum. So to me why should I be “rewarded” with the same package as men in the company who’ve gone through none of this?

I work for a British fashion company just FYI.

My 6mo full pay is a state owned company (being vague but there’s not many of them now to be fair), I do feel very lucky (especially since it’s my third maternity leave) Blush

Worriedandabitscared · 22/12/2020 19:58

@igotosleep

6 months full pay, 3 months stat, 3 months unpaid
Same

9 months full pay (but you have to have worked there for 3 years to qualify).

Ohalrightthen · 23/12/2020 09:00

@DollyParton2

They give 4months full pay to mums as well as dads at work. I’ve got the general rage anyway but what do you think about that? A guy from our team has just been off for 4 months on full pay. I’d prefer mums to get say 5/6 months on full pay and dads to get a few months. Something doesn’t feel right to me that it’s the same for both?
Yeah, because raising babies is women's work! Everyone knows that if you give a man full pay to look after his newborn he'll just stick it in the cupboard and play XBox all day!

Nothing good can come from men getting to take responsibility for caring for their own babies, IMO. Everyone knows that the mother is the most important parent, dads are just there for things like DIY and football anthems, not nappy changes and cuddles.

I feel really fucking sorry for any bloke you end up having kids with, if this is your attitude to the role of a father, but tbh i suspect you're likely to have chosen a man who isn't fussed about spending time with babies. I hope you don't end up complaining about that later.

I work for a small local company so just get statutory maternity pay. But I do think policies in the uk are good compared to America, France etc or the self employed. I know you shouldn’t compare but I feel glad to be able to have a paid maternity leave

Kateblue · 23/12/2020 14:08

I didn’t realise so many companies offer more than SMP! I’ll only get the SMP...that’s at a big company not known for generosity! But compared to what people get in the US where it seems they are lucky if they get anything, I’m really grateful.

MsHedgehog · 23/12/2020 16:00

I think it massively depends on where you work. I'm in the City, so once a few firms offer a good maternity policy, others feel the need to match it.

Equally, if someone is working in a smaller company or a large company but away from a city, I can see why they don't feel obliged to offer the perks.

Joeyandpacey · 23/12/2020 18:08

12 months full pay!

Ohmango · 23/12/2020 18:14

6 weeks full pay, 12 weeks half pay, plus SMP. Local authority.

6 months full pay would be amazing.
