When I was 29 it took 1 month. At 35 it took 10 months and I was 36 when I conceived. My husband had a sperm test and all was normal. I think I have endometriosis and where I wasn't on hormonal birth control after the birth of my first baby having proper periods for 5 years (I'd been on the pill all my 20s) allowed the endometriosis to affect my fertility. My early scans revealed my uterus was flipped all the way backwards - probably due to endometriosis. It seemed like I was ovulating every month - I had blood tests booked to check but I conceived before I went for them. I know lots of people who took over 6 months to conceive, but hardly anyone who took over a year so I think this could have happened even if I had no issues. I'm 21 weeks now and I'm finding pregnancy a bit more uncomfortable than I did last time but I'm low risk and have no extra screenings or appointments just because of my age. I did opt for private (provided by our NHS trust but paid for) early non-invasive prenatal testing due to the higher risk of down syndrome and other chromosomal issues now I'm older. I know people who've had babies in their early 40s.

I had a ds at 37. First cycle of ttc. Another at 42 third cycle. Gave up tea /coffee /fizzy drinks. Lots of fresh veg. Folic acid also!

Smileandtheworldsmileswithyou · 19/12/2020 11:22

I’m 35 in April and I’m October this year got pregnant with my second baby first month trying. With my first baby it took about 4 months when I was 33. 35 is fine for most people! I know lots of people that have easily had a baby after that age.

AliceMcK · 19/12/2020 11:23

At 35 was pregnant with 3 months, 37 about 6 months (but we did have a baby by then) and 41 1 month.

Everyone is different. I thought I’d have problems but I didn’t.

Rubinia · 19/12/2020 11:25

I got pregnant with DS2 on the first cycle. I was 37.

Littlegoth · 19/12/2020 11:31

Conceived 4 times aged 36-38 on first or second month trying. First 3 ended in miscarriage, however this turned out to be due to an undiagnosed blood clotting issue, which was identified between pregnancy 3 & 4.

I assume it’ll be just as quick next time round. I tracked my cycle and cm, and also used preseed a couple of times. Being very careful as while I do want a sibling, baby is just 3 months old so not quite yet.

Littlegoth · 19/12/2020 11:32

(A sibling for baby that is!)

SleepyRoo · 19/12/2020 11:33

Got pregnant first try (on wedding night/honeymoon) at 35, then again at age 39 for second child, after about 3/4 months of trying. No other pregnancies, two normal births. Now have nice abs at 44!
It's one of the few things in life that have been refreshingly straightforward.

Seasalt1984 · 19/12/2020 11:34

I'm 36 and we started ttc expecting it to take months. My GP suggested we "get on with it" if we wanted a child because of my age. BFP on cycle 2 which was a bit of a shock but lovely surprise all the same! Unless there's an underlying problem, I think there's an equal chance of pregnancy regardless of age in mid-late 30s. Lots of luck to you!

WalkingMeAway · 19/12/2020 11:38

At 27 is took 12m/10 cycles
At 34 it took 1 month
At 38 it took 1 month

Very very lucky and grateful

Coldasfish · 19/12/2020 11:42

I had a baby a few weeks shy of my 35th birthday. I certainly don't think I am too old at all. I have 3 older kids I had in my early 20s. I have to say mentally I am more confident, attentive, aware, etc but this could also be experience as opposed to age. Physically my body didn't and still hasn't "bounced back" like it did in my 20s, cosmetically as well as internally.

When my son was 7 months old, I was 35. I stopped taking the pill and fell pregnant right away. Sadly it ended up in a MMC. I had never had a miscarriage before, could my age have been a factor? Maybe. We have been trying since it happened in May. I have tested each month and so far nothing, other than last month, I missed my period and got a positive pregnancy test (albeit quite faint) but bled out less than a week later and wasn't pregnant. This week AF arrived again.

Justcashnosweets · 19/12/2020 11:47

I conceived Dd7 when I was 36, no problems at all. However I had a missed miscarriage at 40, and havn't conceived since. If you want more than one child, I would definitely recommend doing before your 40! Also, try and keep as healthy as possible. Good luck Flowers

TheFoz · 19/12/2020 11:51

There’s loads of success stories on here of ladies who have conceived at over 40, at 35 I’d say you are only a young one! The most important thing is not to stress. Reduce stress from your life as much as possible.

ivfbeenbusy · 19/12/2020 13:31

4 miscarriages age 34-37 left infertile by 2 ruptured ectopics by age 37.....had to go through 5 rounds of IVF

welshladywhois40 · 19/12/2020 14:35

Conceived 4 times after 37. First one took 8 months to make and I think ovulation tracking really helped. Lots of sex leading upto the day. Doesn't make for romance but worked for us.

After my first was born we had two miscarriages but I got pregnant much faster after I had my first.

Worth knowing if you do struggle or it is taking time the GP will speak to you after 6 months. Under 35 you have to wait longer. As we had been trying for 7 months I was sent for a scan to check my ovaries and blood tests to check ovulation. Next step was my partner to get his sperm tested but before he got to his test we were pregnant.

I have vivid memories standing crying outside my doctors after my blood tests came back and I was ovulating. The doctor have just told me sometimes infertility just can't be explained and even if you do manage to have sex on the right day there still is only a 30% chance of getting pregnant. My next period didn't arrive and I was actually pregnant and hormonal at that point!

Wanderdust · 19/12/2020 20:32

Not too old! Although I know how you feel, I thought I'd have trouble TTC and I didn't (I'm 35, having my first and I'll be 36 when baby arrives).

Took 5 months but the first full month we tried using Natural Cycles we conceived. Don't think that was a coincidence, tracking my temp showed me I ovulated much much later than I previously thought (like 3 days after positive OPK).

I could have just been lucky though but thought I'd share!

Wanderdust · 19/12/2020 20:35

Oh and just to add... Any time I've went for a scan/appointment, I've been surprised to see I'm not the oldest there! Or at least, everyone else looks around my age, mid 30s.

I think it's just society that makes you feel you're too old. None of my midwives, doctors etc have even mentioned my age!

FraterculaArctica · 19/12/2020 20:37

3 pregnancies at 35, 37 and 41, all within 1-2 months. No losses. I know I have been so so lucky and blessed.

mangoandraspberries · 19/12/2020 20:43

Two pregnancies at 34 and 36, took 1m to conceive first and 3 months for second. Am hoping for a third in a couple of years time (2nd is only 4 months). Definitely don’t feel too old and have lots of friends pregnant at similar ages

DiabeticFirstBaby · 19/12/2020 21:26

I'm 36, 1st baby, 20 weeks now. Took us 7 months to get pregnant. i tracked ovulation with sticks. We didnt overdo the sex though, tried to do every other day in fertile period but the month we got pregnant we only did it twice. i was also worried there might be something wrong if it may take ages. I was planning on going to the GP if we didn't get pregnant that month though as wanted to get tests done etc.

MaryShelley1818 · 19/12/2020 21:37

Took me 5mths to get pregnant age 39 with DS. Currently 33wks pregnant with a little girl and I'm 42. It took 18mths this time.

Sweetpea12 · 19/12/2020 21:43

I’m 35 now and it took me a year and 4 months to conceive after I had a MMC. And as much as people always say it but it happened when I stopped stressing out and wondering when it would happen. I was going mad with ovulation tracking and temping and the one month I didn’t do it religiously it happened

Pipandmum · 19/12/2020 21:55

Took four months to get pregnant at 40, and same again at 42. Didn't do anything special but I was very regular and just made sure we had sex when I thought it was near ovulation. But didn't make a big deal of it and don't think my husband was aware I was keeping an eye on the dates.

Amrythings · 19/12/2020 21:59

Took six months to get pregnant at 35, had a miscarriage, got pregnant again two months later. Got pregnant this time at 37 the first month off contraception.

Didn't really do anything in particular either time.

LouJ85 · 20/12/2020 12:06

I'm 35 and 5 months pregnant. I came off the pill in early June and fell pregnancy in late July. No time at all. But I was using ovulation kits to predict most fertile times etc
