My go said to get in contact with the midwives at my local hospital but there referall form says you cant start contacting them till you are atleast 6 weeks..is this just normal for the NHS or just this hospital?

Does it matter? What do you want them to do? Just refer yourself in another week or so and use LMP dates.

CarlottaValdez · 11/11/2020 09:43

Congratulations by the way!

Silverstripe · 11/11/2020 09:44

I can’t remember if I was 6 weeks when I got in touch with mine. It might just be a trust thing. Pop a calendar reminder in to call them in a couple of weeks Smile

Pickypolly · 11/11/2020 09:45

Normal, in fact here no one is interested until after 10 weeks and even then it’s just to fill out forms and have bloods taken.
12 week scan referral but you could have to wait until 13-14 weeks.
After that, again no interest from anyone until 20 week scan.

Underwhelming but as there is nothing anyone can do, no resources are dedicated to early pregnancy.

Do your own research, read up on how to keep healthy but don’t expect any one to be interested for weeks and weeks.

ChocoholicMama · 11/11/2020 09:47

It's probably so early testers who may have a chemical aren't in the system too early... Pretty sure my referral said the same thing. It doesn't make any difference really as nothing happens until your 8-10 week booking appt (and sadly that's not very exciting either!). And use your LMP date as that's what they'll use until your 12 week scan. Congrats!!

ShellsAndSunrises · 11/11/2020 09:50

Congratulations! Yes, it’s six weeks here too. And then a booking in phone call around 9 weeks, and the first scan at 12 weeks, like a PP said.

OneLinePlease · 11/11/2020 09:50

Yeah normal.

No point contacting too early. Nothing to be done then anyway.

Luckylola12 · 11/11/2020 09:50

Thankyou all! Im sorry im so anxious! Ive been trying for 2 years so im so scared of something going wrong, i just want to know everything is okay! I just need to distract myself =) i didnt realise i should go by LMP thankyou! When i put it in on some apps they say 5 weeks and others so 4! Im so confused!

Same here, expect to be underwhelmed with the attention given.

Pickypolly · 11/11/2020 09:53

You won’t know until you have your 12 week scan to be honest.

Until that point just focus on being a healthy as you can be.

GreyishDays · 11/11/2020 09:53

They won’t do anything for a while anyway, to check everything is ok.

Take your folic acid and look at the nhs guidance on what you can’t eat. Smile

CarlottaValdez · 11/11/2020 09:54

I remember that time so vividly. It’s the most important thing in the world to you and it’s so routine to the system, it does feel like a clash! Really hope all goes well, I found the 12 weeks until the scan went so so slowly then after that it sped up!

Luckylola12 · 11/11/2020 09:55

Thankyou all! Its so much harder being in lockdown aswell! DH is working so im just at home by myself...which is when i panick and start googling! Plus apart from slighlty sore bbs and annoying painful trapped wind! I dont feel pregnant!

Yes, they won't even test for pregnancy at your booking in. It's just form filling and a well being check. Don't expect much! :)

They'll scan around 12 weeks to see if there's a baby in there and he's growing as expected :)

LaLaLandIsNoFun · 11/11/2020 10:00

@Luckylola12

I understand your anxiety.

I’ve been pregnant 3 times and every single one of them I had ZERO symptoms apart from a small amount of sickness in my second pregnant which could just as well have been a mild stomach bug for a week. ZERO. I also had substantial bleeds before the 3rd trimester and both times professionals didn’t expect me to still be pregnant - I have two healthy children.

It’s really hard, but try not to worry.

00100001 · 11/11/2020 10:01

It's early days. I never felt pregnant until the end, when the bump got in the way 😂

Basically, don't take a lack of symptoms as evidence of anything Smile

LaLaLandIsNoFun · 11/11/2020 10:01

Sorry - I tell a lie - I did have some symptoms every single time during the 1st trimester - constipation.

Meomeomeo · 11/11/2020 10:03

I self referred myself before 6 weeks. Completed the online form and got confirmation of appointment for booking and scan about a week after. Obviously they weren’t for a while.

Luckylola12 · 11/11/2020 10:09

Thanks everyone! Im so paranoid! Me and DH have had such a bad year...so much bad news etc, i just dont want this to end badly! So ill if i go by LMP which was 5th ocotober i should be 6 weeks roughly 16th november?

OP posts:
LaLaLandIsNoFun · 11/11/2020 10:29

Yes. Go by your LMP.

I promise you that even if the NHS was ‘interested’ before 12 weeks, there is almost fuck all to see. I had a scan at 7 weeks for something non-pregnancy related. Sonographer decided to take a look for me because I was anxious - all you could see was a sack with a quivering blob.

CoalCraft · 11/11/2020 11:56

Very normal, GP didn't want to know till I was eight weeks. It doesn't interfere with treatment - I was seen in the EPU for bleeding before my booking in appointment, no problem.

SinkGirl · 11/11/2020 12:01

Yes, i went to my GP when I was 5 weeks (due to some medication I was on) and I thought they’d do a test or something... i was really surprised they just accepted it without checking! But home tests are as accurate as theirs so there’s no point. Don’t think I actually believed it until I had my 12 week scan and then I found out it was twins.

Hang in there - the first few weeks last forever, and can be so worrying, but focus on being well Flowers

rorosemary · 11/11/2020 12:23

I never felt pregnant till around 8 weeks (and then terrible nausea). It's not like on tv for me, where they throw up the day after conception or so Wink.

If you're really anxious you can do a private scan at 8 weeks. You should be able to see a heartbeat then. Before that there isn't much to it because it's so small they might see something or just not see something, so that doesn't help settle your feeling.

It's such a worrying and exciting period of the pregnancy, but please remember that the odds are that everything will go well (80% or so?). So congratulations!

movingonup20 · 11/11/2020 12:33

They don't "book in" until around 10 weeks, mostly because many early pregnancies are not viable eg chemical etc. I know that sound harsh but there is nothing to be actually done before the 12 week scan so there's little point in registering pregnancies until established.

movingonup20 · 11/11/2020 12:37

There is not anything they can "do" even if there's something wrong so instead try to be optimistic, relax, take pregnancy vitamins and realise that you will be underwhelmed by the number of appointments, even when I had mine I think it was 8 or 9 in total, no pandemic to deal with. If you have specific questions there should be a helpline attached to the epu or midwives but check the nhs guide first, it contains all you need to know now
