I'm 36 weeks pregnant seeing the consultant on Tuesday to get the decision on a planned c section which would be done at 39 weeks I'm really scared and paranoid that I'm going to go into labour and have to give birth 😭 my mum keeps saying she thinks she's going to come early because of how big I am. Are due dates accurate?? Has anyone gone into labour before 39 weeks ??????

@kmkkkkkk I am sure lot of people have been early and a lot have been late.

Why are you scared of labour, do you have health conditions or any other worries?

I went into labour at 38+3, all was super well and manageable and arrived in hospital 4pm, baby born 8pm all good and happy.

If it helps, it was bad but if you make sure the hospital treats you right (loads of pain relief) you will be in control and all will be well.

Good luck :)

plixy · 07/11/2020 21:59

If you have a section planned and go into labour early you just have it early.
I was told to call as soon as I had any signs of labour and they would take me in for a section straight away.
They won't plan it for before 39 weeks but if baby is coming early anyway then they will do it.
Unless you have a ridiculously fast labour and can't make it to surgery then you will get a section.

Thatwentbadly · 07/11/2020 22:00

If you go into labour earlier than that you can still have a c section.

I had a c section booked with DD2 at 39 weeks but I went into labour and had her vaginally at 38+1 weeks. This was my choice. I also tried everything under the sun to encourage labour before 39 weeks including sweeps from 36+6.

kmkkkkkk · 07/11/2020 22:00

I have tokophobia and severe asthma

@Thatwentbadly phew That's eased my mind a little 😅How come you decided to give birth vaginally when you planned a c section may I ask x

Can you speak to the consultant and see what to do if you go into labour before the set date? My first was late anyway. Even if you start in early labour it doesn’t mean you can’t have a c section. I would guess you just need to make sure you know who to call and what to say.
Good luck.

Glitterheart · 07/11/2020 22:05

I had a planned section and went into labour at 38+2 but they just did the section then instead. Good luck I’m sure all will be well xx

kmkkkkkk · 07/11/2020 22:16

@Glitterheart thank you :) xx

@kmkkkkkk you will have what they call an emergency elective Caesarian. I was booked in for the Monday but went into labour on the Saturday. Despite having emergency in the name it's a lot more relaxed than an actual emergency. Oh and the gas and air they have in theatre is 100x better than the gas and air on the ward, it also tastes of strawberry 😃 but you are only allowed three inhalation's of it or you will be knocked out but it really is magical stuff for contractions!

jessstan1 · 08/11/2020 03:18

Why do you think having a C section will be easier than giving birth naturally?

leafcolourchanger · 08/11/2020 04:18

The clue was in tokophobia.

If you go into labour early your planned section becomes an emergency section. There are different levels of emergency section so as gem says emergency just means unplanned.

Speak to your midwife about your concerns, they will advise you on who to contact if you go into labour earlier than your planned section.

Due dates are relatively accurate because of period tracking and most importantly scans. Your Mum is not helping. I looked 8 months pregnant at 5 months in. Still went overdue with ds1.

leafcolourchanger · 08/11/2020 04:20

Should have said I had an emergency section first time round, then elective the second time.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 08/11/2020 04:26

Loads of people said DD2 was going to come early. I kind of pinned my hopes on it. She came naturally at 40+2. DD1 came naturally at 40+5.

I can’t comment on the CS because I had two vaginal births. Good luck though.

Does giving birth make you puke? Genuine question btw.

Gem176 · 08/11/2020 11:29

@pinkyredrose tokophobia isn't a fear of puking.
Not sure about giving birth making you puke but I was sick in the hospital, possibly a mixture of nerves, the heat, gas & air etc

pinkyredrose · 08/11/2020 11:55

Gem176 i got my phobias mixed up! Apologies.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 08/11/2020 13:44

Some of the pain relief methods require anti-sickness injections as well. Also, I can imagine women throwing up during labour because the rooms are so hot and they are under a lot of duress.

I’m so grateful I wasn’t sick. I don’t have a phobia of sick but I hate being sick so much. It would have made it much worse.

Disappointedkoala · 08/11/2020 15:45

I've also got a planned section for 39 weeks and I'm convinced I'm going early! I've spoken to my midwife this week specifically about what to do if I do go into labour, hospital bags all packed and feel better prepared than I did earlier this week. Have a chat with your midwife once you've got your date sorted.

I think most people are surprised how big you can look at 8/9 months so don't think anything of going "oh you're huge" which isn't very helpful.

Pumpertrumper · 08/11/2020 16:00

OP giving birth isn’t fun for anyone but I honestly cannot get my head around women who are so set on having a C-section as though it’s the ‘easier’ choice?!?!

I was terrified of having to have a c-section. Any Dr, nurse or medic will tell you the same, they’re a last resort/ for those who are in danger giving birth naturally and are MAJOR surgery. A straight forward birth you’ll be back on your feet so much faster.

Why don’t you have an epidural and get the best of both worlds? Some risks, but much lower and no major surgery whilst you still literally cannot feel a thing. Won’t even know you’re in Labour 👍🏻

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 08/11/2020 16:21

@Pumpertrumper

I don’t understand how some people are afraid of the dark but they are. Your post isn’t helpful.

Also, I my labour was too fast for an epidural so I didn’t get one. It’s not a perfect fix.

GrendelsCat · 08/11/2020 16:34

@Pumpertrumper

My best friend's an obstetrician, currently pregnant with her first and booked for an elective section. In fact I remember reading a study a while back that found many female doctors prefer c section for their own births. It's a personal choice.

Gem176 · 08/11/2020 16:49

An elective section even an emergency elective can be far safer in many instances. I for one am a type 1 diabetic so my risk of a prolonged labour followed by an emergency c section was much higher. The op has a phobia, we don't choose them and we can't help them. Urging her to try natural for whatever reason when a c section is what she has decided is the type of delivery that she can handle is neither helpful nor supportive. Your delivery, your choice.
My c section was a dream, up and walking as soon as my spinal wore off, no pain unlike the woman in the bed across from me who had a traumatic theatre forceps delivery. She definitely wasn't bouncing around the ward doing laps like I was.

The OP was banned during the night for abusing forum members, so don’t expect a reply from them.

happymummy12345 · 08/11/2020 17:36

The above poster beat me to it. But yes the op was either not a genuine poster or if they weren't a troll they were just extremely rode and insulting to others, and thankfully are now banned.

pinkyredrose · 08/11/2020 17:37

Omg what happened?!
