Currently in labour. What to cook DH?

I am 40+3 and I think I am in slow early labour. Contractions about 9 minutes apart, have been going since about 7am. Sometimes they widen to 11 minutes for a while, sometimes back to 7 for an hour or so, but they are mildly painful. I am at home, DH is in work, DD is in nursery. On my last labour I was having contractions for 36 hours, 25 of which were in hospital. Poor DH only brought snack bars and crisps with him. I was in so much panic and pain I begged him not to leave me to go to the canteen. He was absolutely falling apart with hunger by the time DD arrived. I sent him home 2 hours after she was born because he was a shell of a man.

This time around I want to be prepared and I need to stay upright to bring these contractions on, so I am going to cook. What do you think I should cook that we can bring in in tubs, he can eat cold, but will be a sort of dinner substitute? Pasta of some form?

Give him a map of the kitchen and don't let your baby grow up as ignorant as him!

Jesus christ.

So the OP is now potentially a bad mother? So many bitchy, ignorant, uneducated accusations being flung around. The misandry, sorry, feminist forum is thataway--->

WoooImAGhost · 06/11/2020 08:32

Sod off with that accusation Corridander. I usually spend most of my time here in FWR in my non Halloween name and if I want to see an inability to read an OP's posts and a desire to kick an OP for any reason whatsoever I go to AIBU.

You are being ignorant (possibly without realising it) and you have shown a spectacular lack of understanding of this thread.

The OP is not kicking her DH. Why are you?

37weekswithno2 · 06/11/2020 10:53

@CorianderBlues .... woo hasn't said anything about ops dh as far as I can see?
She's saying that Aibu is the place people come to kick the op and misread what they're saying - not the feminism board.

WoooImAGhost · 06/11/2020 11:37

Thanks 37weeks you're right. It's just baffles me why people throw those accusations against the feminism section when it's one of the few places on the boards where it's expected that couples have relationships where they work as a team.

Sorry Mumma for derailing your thread further Wink hope you're having a lovely time with a gorgeous newborn Cake

WoooImAGhost · 06/11/2020 11:38

And I hope you got your mince pies!

Rockpapershoot · 06/11/2020 11:45

I hope and the baby are doing well OP.

ScarletORyan · 06/11/2020 17:16

This reminds me of exH who went off to buy a curry when I was in labour and brought it back to the ward! Midwives were unimpressed ...

ShirleyPhallus · 09/11/2020 16:32

@MummaBear4321 did you have your baby?

MummaBear4321 · 09/11/2020 18:35

Yes! I had a baby girl at 9:35pm on Thursday. It was a nice short labour considering I was cooking and feeling pretty good at about 1pm. It was pretty calm overall 😊

Ahhhh amazing!!! Huge congratulations!

And the question we all want to know the answer to..... what did you cook for DH and was he useful?!

Coffeecak3 · 09/11/2020 18:54

Yay! Congratulations to you all.

Prisonbreak · 09/11/2020 19:03

You are having children with this man?

WoooImAGhost · 09/11/2020 19:06

Ah, how lovely! Congratulations! FlowersBrew

ServeTheServants · 09/11/2020 19:09

I am completely with you on this, OP. I cooked a meal whilst in active labour and gave birth within 3 hours of doing so, as it acted as a wonderful distraction (planned home birth). It took my mind off the pain and nerves. It was only a spaghetti bolognese, so anything nice and easy like that would be good I’d say!

ServeTheServants · 09/11/2020 19:10

Just seen you’ve given birth! Huge congrats.

SunshineCake · 09/11/2020 19:12

Rice with mushrooms, sweetcorn and peas.

Pasta with bacon, cheese and mushrooms.

Quiche.

Apple pies.

SunshineCake · 09/11/2020 19:12

Didn't see the rest.

Congrats on the baby!

What did you cook?

VettiyaIruken · 09/11/2020 19:16

Flowers congratulations!

Dollywilde · 09/11/2020 20:00

Congrats! Both on the baby and starting the most weirdly antagonistic thread ever 😂

MummaBear4321 · 09/11/2020 22:52

@ShirleyPhallus I cooked a sort of ham and cheese pasta bake. He ate none of is because things happened too fast, so I ate it when I came home the next day 😆

Also, he was beyond amazing. Counted me through all contractions, rubbed my back, said all the right things. The midwives just left us to it because he kept me so calm. I think that's why it went so fast. Also, he has done all the cooking, cleaning, making me tea and managing our toddler since I got home.

So for everyone who assumed that me cooking for him was a sign that I am some whipped 1950s housewife, you couldnt be more wrong. We are a well functioning pair who help each other out, make life easier for each other where we can.

Thanks for all the well wishes.

If you'd bothered to read the thread you would have seen so much more and maybe managed to unwedge your judgey pants.
SoupDragon · 10/11/2020 07:36

OP congratulations!

Congratulations!

Between your new baby and your DH coming through as a bit of a hero, I'm a little bit emotional at your post!
