Currently in labour. What to cook DH?

I am 40+3 and I think I am in slow early labour. Contractions about 9 minutes apart, have been going since about 7am. Sometimes they widen to 11 minutes for a while, sometimes back to 7 for an hour or so, but they are mildly painful. I am at home, DH is in work, DD is in nursery. On my last labour I was having contractions for 36 hours, 25 of which were in hospital. Poor DH only brought snack bars and crisps with him. I was in so much panic and pain I begged him not to leave me to go to the canteen. He was absolutely falling apart with hunger by the time DD arrived. I sent him home 2 hours after she was born because he was a shell of a man.

This time around I want to be prepared and I need to stay upright to bring these contractions on, so I am going to cook. What do you think I should cook that we can bring in in tubs, he can eat cold, but will be a sort of dinner substitute? Pasta of some form?

@MummaBear4321 good luck with your birth, hope it all goes great!

Iwantalonglie · 05/11/2020 17:12

Funny enough, I was fine. They gave me my tea and toast and a bath, and I was on cloud 9. I didnt even feel tired. I felt amazing

Women are amazing. No idea why we're supposed to be the weaker sex and all Hmm...

Ignore the haters, your husband sounds like a fantastic support and I think your question was perfectly reasonable. Just stopping by to say best of luck! You have got this mamma! X

Order a blinking takeaway for goodness sake. Then consider a new man 😉

A new man? Just why? Confused

Find it really odd on MN how much point scoring there is between couples.

Would a type of salad work?
Use a grain like freekah or farro, rocket, mozzarella, rocket pomegranate seeds and the like.
It can be a eaten at any time.
What about some smoothies?

Thunderpunt · 05/11/2020 19:12

Late to the thread so you may have already given birth Grin but The 4 P's would be good.

Pasta shells with pancetta (or chopped smoked bacon) peas and pesto. Lovely hot and just as good cold, shed loads of fresh grated Parmesan over the top.
Sauté up the bacon in olive oil, add frozen peas, lid on for 5-10 mins while pasta cooks. Strain pasta shells, Chuck in frying pan with bacon and peas and stir in some basil pesto. Delish

Well done OP, totally get when you are coming from! I cooked a full Chicken roast dinner when I was in slow labour, I find cooking relaxing and a good distraction.

Perfect28 · 05/11/2020 19:26

@shirleyphallus it was a joke... Passed you by obviously Grin

missmouse101 · 05/11/2020 19:26

I'd make some nice soup to keep hot in a flask and some bread and butter. Yum! Exciting OP, good luck for the birth.Smile

Aren’t jokes meant to be funny?

missmouse101 · 05/11/2020 21:08

Keep us posted with a photo OP!

Mooey89 · 05/11/2020 21:18

Honestly I’m just here for the live labour thread. Good luck!

I don't know why some people were so scathing on this thread.
This time round I've packed a bag for dh containing painkillers, his inhalers and snacks. I hope he has time for a meal before we go to the hospital too. Sure he could do it himself but I'm off work now, he's currently working 2 full time jobs as he's seeing out the end of a contract and he does all other shopping, cooking and meal planning.
Last time he hadn't eaten since the night before, he was very hungry and ended up with a thumping headache (after 24 hours of not eating and very little sleep). I also sent him home soon after the birth as he was dead on his feet and actually looked quite unwell.
Yes, I'd had a very hard delivery but I was lying in a bed, being taken care of, had been fed and given painkillers. I was also buzzing with happy hormones.
Can we not be concerned about people we love and want to take care of them like they take care of us?

Merename · 05/11/2020 22:04

Sorry haven’t rtft, only your posts op but I’m hoping someone has already pointed out that second labours can be waaay faster than firsts - my first was 50hrs and my second just over 2. Just to say be prepared for second time to be nothing like first! Good luck Flowers

notacooldad · 05/11/2020 22:35

Exactly! I understood what the op meant about wanting to be distracted. Honestly some people talk as if their husbands are the enemy.
DH bends over backward to make my life easy spoils me, does housework did loads of childcare and even as the kids re adults goes above and beyond to help the lads out. However I posted on MN asking advice about a domestic chore and I was flamed! Apparently my lovely husband of30 years wasa selfish I was being put on and a complete mug. Unbelievable and I think a lot of projection is done.
I hope all is ok OP

37weekswithno2 · 05/11/2020 22:40

@notacooldad I do think a lot is projection. Their partners are selfish arseholes and therefore everyone else's must be too. It probably makes them feel better to imagine it that way.

AlwaysLatte · 05/11/2020 22:59

A reverse, or joke, surely. I think anything less than a 5 Michelin star meal with excellent wine would be a bare minimum.

Give him a map of the kitchen and don't let your baby grow up as ignorant as him! Wishing you all the best Thanks

mumwon · 05/11/2020 23:09

boil some eggs & make hard boiled egg sandwiches - with a bit of black pepper
double everything you decide to cook op for when you get home & don't have time (bet you have stuff in the freezer already!)

If theres still time these are amazing. I swap the desiccated coconut for orange zest, the golden syrup for black treacle or molasses and add a tsp of almond essence 😍
You will probably need to double or triple the recipe though. I get through it in about an hour 😂

BananasBananas · 06/11/2020 03:14

Meant to add, best of luck with the baby!

alexdgr8 · 06/11/2020 03:30

can't he buy a bagful of M&S type ready to eats, on the way home.

notacooldad · 06/11/2020 08:13

Did you not read the reasons WHY op wanted to cook something or are just bumbling in with a negative view of men? She has even done updates!
Christ on a bike people are weird about women doing anything nice for their partners!
