C section bikini line - veet, shave wax?

Sheera1 · 04/11/2020 21:58

Hi.

I had an emergency section with DS and was mortified when they shaved me. Couldn't be helped and wasn't in the plan.

Have an elective section in a week and wondering what people did. It is an area I normally have autism natural so not sure which to use and mainly to avoid regrowth itchiness. Hope not to much TMI

I waxed before mine but doubt you can with lockdown now. I believe there is conflicting advice about whether this can encourage infection. I think many sources advise against it - but I hate hate shaving and it would have been so itchy for me. I was happy I had the wax.

movingonup20 · 04/11/2020 22:08

Just trim with scissors if you want to tidy up, they really don't care. I think current advice is not to shave

bonzo77 · 04/11/2020 22:12

Are you talking about where they’ll cut you or the bikini line? If it’s where they’ll cut you’d I’d just trim with nail Scissors or better still hair / beard clippers.

All advice before surgery is not to shave/remove your own hair because it creates an infection risk.

If they need to remove hair for surgery they use clippers for that reason.

ForeverBubblegum · 04/11/2020 22:16

I shaved, not sure if your ment to but it's what I do anyway.

moofolk · 04/11/2020 22:28

I had an emergency and a planned, wasn't shaved for either.

I imagine if your hair comes up to the point they cut they'd shave that but why shave everything that seems mad!

RoseAndRose · 04/11/2020 22:33

Leave as much as you can, but shave any areas where they are likely to stick dressings to you, ideally a couple of days before the procedure (giving skin and any tiny abrasions time to settle)

Same advice for both sexes for any procedure really, if you don't fancy ripping the dressing off hairy skin.

Sheera1 · 05/11/2020 00:12

Hi ya. Yes I mean any hair where they cut or near the area which might get stuck to the dressing. Ouch. Might be an idea just to leave it as didn't realise you shouldn't shave before an operation. It was just pretty mortifying last time like I had left it get really out of hand 🙈😊

@Sheera1 please don’t be mortified! Trust me in that none of the theatre staff will have batted an eyelid. We honestly couldn’t care less and if needs clipping it can be done then. I am an anaesthetist who does a lot of obstetrics

Sheera1 · 05/11/2020 10:42

Thank you @countbackfromten

Clever user name!

I would be happy to tidy up down there but if best to leave it I will. X

Id normally want to shave but I can't actually see that area thanks to the size of my bump so would probably be safer to leave it 😅😅 hoping its true that no one cares lol!!

countbackfromten · 05/11/2020 11:37

@Sheera1 I would just leave it and they can trim if necessary on the day. Hope everything goes wonderfully smoothly for you x

DappledThings · 05/11/2020 12:53

Why would you be mortified about having hair where you naturally have hair?

Sheera1 · 05/11/2020 15:56

@Dappledthings because it is a mess

The staff really won't mind but I didnt want to be shaved due to itchiness I normally get from shaving.

I used Woo Woo hair removal cream and highly recommend it. Much better than Veet. No horrible smell to the cream, no growth itchiness.

You can get from Superdrug or Amazon.

Wishing56 · 05/11/2020 16:42

To add I was told I shouldn't do any hair removal less than 5 days before to avoid infection so I did it 5 days before... no infection!

doadeer · 05/11/2020 16:52

I waxed a week before mine so I don't think there was an infection risk

Sheera1 · 05/11/2020 21:16

Ta all. Might try that Woo woo stuff. X

@countbackfromten I love anaesthetists. I've had 8 GA's for various surgeries and an epidural for a tricky birth. Without fail every single anaesthetist I've met has been kind, calming and lovely.

When I was in labour with ds and was having to get the epidural in it was the anaesthetist who coached me to breathe through my contractions to calm me down enough to sit still. He'd have been a great birth partner 🤣

Does the job attract lovely people or is it part of your training?

After my last surgery I might have told the anaesthetist he was my favourite person in the hospital (he'd just put a nerve block into my very painful leg)

37weekswithno2 · 05/11/2020 21:27

But op as others have said I'd just leave the hair alone. Don't worry about it

TartanPyjamas · 05/11/2020 21:59

If you go in au naturel, they will shave again with the electric shaver most likely. No one will either particularly notice or care. If you want to do it yourself, I would also recommended Woo Woo but best to clipper it a bit beforehand so it's more effective. Much easier than shaving if you can't see what you're doing! And less chance of cuts or scrapes.

countbackfromten · 05/11/2020 23:11

@37weekswithno2 really touched by your post! That is really lovely to hear and I’m so glad you have had such a good experience with us, thank you so much for sharing that with me.

I absolutely love my job and it is a privilege to care for the patients I see day in day out. Anaesthesia does attract a lot of lovely people (not saying everyone is sweetness and light!). I just try and treat my patients how I would want a member of my family to be treated.

YouBringLightInToADarkPlace · 05/11/2020 23:41

They shaved me in theatre last week after advising not to do it myself.

I was quite amused- the nurse doing it offered me an "nhs brazillian"!

Sheera1 · 06/11/2020 10:08

😂😂 NHS Brazilian love it x
