Now maybe the real answer is a little obvious.... that you have gotta DTD/BD/make love/inseminate/shag, whatever you want to call it... but in TTC there are a lot of other tips and tricks out there outside of basic biology.

I'd love to hear from you lovely lot what you think did the trick. Grin

Tracked periods for a while before TTC so I would know when I was ovulating (using the Flo app). Then DTD a few days leading up to ovulations Smile not sure if this is the answer you were after but it worked (I'm aware others don't have it so easy) xx

Minkies13 · 03/11/2020 15:35

I used the clear blue ovulation sticks with the smiley face to determine exactly when I ovulated, which was a few days later than the apps predicted.

Good luck

Tried not to make a baby - fell pg immediately I moved in with the new boyfriend.

Luckyelephant1 · 03/11/2020 15:39

We conceived in 5th cycle. It was the first cycle we religiously followed the SMEP method plus a couple of times more in 2WW for good measure until I got the first faint BFP at 10DPO. It was exhausting but worth it! In previous cycles I have a feeling we may have stopped DTD a bit too early.

Also I think in this cycle my iron supplements had probably kicked in properly as I'd been prescribed them a couple of months earlier after a blood test showed very low iron stores.

Oh and I also prayed a lot more.

:-)

I didn't do anything other than the obvious.

Luckyelephant1 · 03/11/2020 15:41

Forgot to add all this was on top of using Flo app to track cycle plus ovulation sticks which we'd done in the previous cycles as well.

bloomety · 03/11/2020 15:44

I bought DHEA from USA for my egg quality and was prescribed progesterone by my consultant for low progesterone.

DisgruntledPelican · 03/11/2020 15:47

Nothing - it was a complete surprise and we weren’t trying to conceive. But I was living really healthily. My diet was fantastic and I was exercising a lot and sleeping well, drinking no alcohol. I’m sure this was a strong factor.

18 months later it’s a different story 😂

Moandy · 03/11/2020 15:50

Both times that worked.. Only had sex twice the whole month! On day of positive opk and the day after! Maybe a fluke, but worked for us.

EssentialHummus · 03/11/2020 15:51

Get really familiar with cervical mucus GrinEnvy

Parkandride · 03/11/2020 15:54

Got some scientists to stick some sperms into my eggs Grin

But had great egg and sperm quality, excellent fertilisation rate and robust genetically normal embryos on the following vitamins for us both: pre conception multivitamin his and hers, ubiquinol form of CoQ10, vitamin c and vitamin d. No alcohol 1 month before.

happyascarrie · 03/11/2020 16:04

Fixed up our diets (just to make sure we were stable and healthy-no alcohol etc) and kept track of ovulation with apps and tests. DTD constantly before during and after ov period 'just in case' DH said... Fell pregnant 3rd cycle for DS1 and 1st cycle for DS2, 3 and 4.

biscuit13 · 03/11/2020 16:04

I used the clear blue advance ovulation tests so I knew exactly when I was ovulating and also used preeseed with thr applicators, got pregnant 1st month using that :) good luck x

GrandTheftWalrus · 03/11/2020 16:05

Like a PP my dh moved in with me.

With the pregnancy I lost in may it was a lot of drinking during lockdown.

With this one it was a drunken night out again as we planned to try from September onwards!

London91 · 03/11/2020 16:11

I used opk's, tested twice a day and dtd the day before my positive test, the day of my positive test and the two days after then otherwise any other time we felt like it. I got a positive pregnancy test at 8dpo.

user1471518119 · 03/11/2020 16:12

It took 18 months so tried a few things, what I think helped was taking some of the advice from it starts with the egg book, throwing away anxiety inducing ovulation sticks and getting fitter and losing a bit of weight at the beginning of lockdown. Of course not having to get up early and commute maybe helped too but who knows really. Also making the most of my lunch breaks with DH if you know what I mean Grin Could just be good luck and time of course so I wouldn't assume what worked for someone else will work for you necessarily.

grassisjeweled · 03/11/2020 16:13

No caffeine, no alcohol, low carb. Loads of water. Tracked cycle using app. Had sex on ovulation days.

Temporarything · 03/11/2020 16:15

Deanna method. That sperm friendly live. Tracking using an app. It was exhausting! Worked though.

Whilstwewait · 03/11/2020 16:17

I did acupuncture the month I fell pregnant. It was month 14. I also walked a lot more that month. I went from not walking at all to doing 50 miles. I was also stressed in work and had cystitis during FW 😆 so it was the one month I couldn't really be bothered trying x

Mylittlepony374 · 03/11/2020 16:18

Lost weight. It's the only significant difference after 5 years of trying lots of different things. Was still skinny (still breastfeeding) when accidentally got pregnant with baby 2. Now I'm fat again. But not trying to get pregnant so 🤷‍♀️

Snowpatrolling · 03/11/2020 16:19

Got drunk!!!

rorosemary · 03/11/2020 16:25

Have ivf. When you have fertility problems, you have fertility problems. Eating a pineapple with cinnamon for example won't make that go away, just as it won't work against cancer. For healthy people: just keep having sex regularly, women in countries where there is a lack of food and stressbecause of war still get pregnant. If you're unhealthy, then make some healthy changes.

I would advise taking folic acid. It won't make you get pregnant but if you do then it will lessen the chance of spina bifida.

MummyOfZog · 03/11/2020 16:35

I tracked ovulation for months and eventually picked up that the second half of my cycle was short (10 days from ovulation until my period). Did a lot of research and started taking a lot of supplements to try and lengthen it so that it gave the fertilised egg a chance to bed in before period and got pregnant second month of doing that (after many months before!). I took 500mg Vit C, B100 complex, Vit E, Vit D and folic acid (had taken folic acid and Vit D for months before). I also continued to use OPKs to confirm ovulation, because I never ovulate at the 14 day mark that all the doctors will say you do!

firsttimemummyxxxxx · 03/11/2020 16:37

I had very irregular periods (sometimes missing them for 3 months) before we started trying so I tracked my basal body temperature and was obsessed with ovulation tests. (Buy in bulk on Amazon as much cheaper!) Then lots of BD when I got the positive ovulation!

We did that and got very very lucky and conceived first month!

penny92 · 03/11/2020 16:40

Loving these answers! Keep them coming (oo-err!)

OPKs seem to be the biggest winner so far, and general improvement of health! I've never tried not drinking, and I do like a few drinks on the weekend so that might be something to try next.

Just for reference, I'm on cycle 2 after an early miscarriage at 6 weeks in August. The first pregnancy was an accident but I'd just had the implant taken out and didn't count on how quickly it might happen. It also helped us prioritise and realise this was something we were very much ready for and wanting in our life.
