How much did your baby weigh at 36 weeks?

I've just been sent for a growth scan at 36 weeks due to the midwives concerns about slow growth and baby is measuring 6lbs. Just wondering how that compares to others scans and also how much do babies generally grow between weeks 36-40? 🤷🏻‍♀️

DS was born at 35.5 so practically 36 weeks and he weighed 5.2lb

Stargazer87 · 03/11/2020 17:23

It seems that 6lbs is about right, not particularly big or small? It plots in a similar place on the graph as the midwives measurement which resulted in her sending me for the scan thinking baby was showing slow growth?

DS was 37 weeks and 5lb 6 and classed as a small baby.
DD was 37 weeks and 6lb 6 and not.

maudspellbody · 03/11/2020 17:34

At 34 weeks I was told DD was under 5lbs and was having 3 growth scans a week because they were worried.

She was born at 37+1 and was 6lbs 4, so small, but not as small as they thought and there were no issues.

My DS was born at 1lb 7 at 28 weeks, so she was a whopper to me!

BurningBenches · 03/11/2020 18:45

At 37 wks I was told DS weighed just under 9lb 😂 thankfully they were slightly out and we weighed a mere 9lb5oz when he was born at 40wks.

BurningBenches · 03/11/2020 18:48

Sorry I've just reread your OP and I think my response was a little insensitive. I'm sorry it wasn't meant that way.

From my understanding babies put on about half a pound in their final weeks inside, so they expected DS to be around 10.5lbs at 40wks. So I would have thought a 6lb at 36weeks would be a good weight.

CarrotCakeSupprise · 03/11/2020 19:03

DD didn't grow at all after after 36 weeks according to her scans. She was born at 38 weeks at 6lbs1.

She caught up very quickly and was 50th percentile by about 4 months.

DelphiniumBlue · 03/11/2020 19:04

DS1 was born at 36 weeks and weighed 7lbs

Thegirlhasnoname · 03/11/2020 19:05

By a growth scan at 36+1, DD was apparently measuring close to 9lb but she was born by EMCS at 36+6 weighing 7lb2

DelphiniumBlue · 03/11/2020 19:08

I think I was told they grow about half a pound a week in late pregnancy. Have no idea if that's right.

Whatthedoodle · 03/11/2020 19:10

DS1 born at 36 weeks weighed 6lb 7oz (36 weeks and a few days I can’t remember exactly!)

SleepingStandingUp · 03/11/2020 19:11

Twins came 36 weeks exactly, 6lb 13 and 6 lb 15

Pickypolly · 03/11/2020 19:12

At birth at 37 weeks mine was 5lbs with IUGR due to pre eclampsia.

All fine, gained weight quickly with full on bf.

Nosleeptilteenagers · 03/11/2020 19:15

Mine was 7lb born at 35+5 and everyone kept going on about how massive she was! I would say 6lb would be about right.

cloudcett · 03/11/2020 19:20

Dd1 was born at 36+2 weighing 5lbs 5. Dd2 was born at 37+3 weighing 6lbs 4. Midwifes weren't concerned about either.

WellQualifiedToRepresentTheLBC · 03/11/2020 19:23

My DS was born at 34 weeks at 5 lb 13 oz. He was considered very big for his gestation, he was just within the normal weight range for a term baby.

I would think that you are measuring fine but I'm not a hcp. Slow growth might be more a function of baby's growth rate slowing down suddenly, compared to previous weeks.

Somethingvague · 03/11/2020 19:26

5lbs 4oz. Baby was born via elective c section because of measuring small at 37 weeks and was 5lbs 12oz. She has thrived on the outside and gained almost a pound per week, so it was the right call!

Moandy · 03/11/2020 19:31

Gosh that seems normal? Lots of full term babies are around 6lb. My sisters baby was 6lb 1oz and was never considered small and that was 40+5.

MuchTooTired · 03/11/2020 19:31

My DTs were born at 36+5 due to severe pe and weighed 6lb 6oz and 7lb 3oz.

I was told that a baby is classed as full term at 37 weeks and the last few weeks of pregnancy are for putting weight on, at a rate of about half a pound a week. No idea if that’s accurate, I’m not a medic, but they were trying to get me to 37 weeks until the day I had them - they were out within 7 hours once the consultant decided that was it.

Moandy · 03/11/2020 19:33

my ds was also predicted to be 6lb 4oz at my scan due to reduced movements. He was born 7lb14oz 2 days later.. So I would also take measurements with a pinch of salt.

Hermie12 · 03/11/2020 19:36

My dd was born by scheduled c section at 37 weeks and was 6lb 1

Tiredmum100 · 03/11/2020 19:37

6 lb 2 oz. He was born 36 weeks to the day.

Tricerapops · 03/11/2020 19:42

6lb 3oz at 36+6 so I would have thought 6lb at 36 weeks was fine.

DC1 was 3lb at 35 weeks by comparison (there were undiagnosed issues with the placenta though and I was induced due to preeclampsia) but he's still perfectly healthy.

justkeeprunning5 · 03/11/2020 19:45

36 weeks 5lb15 and 38 weeks 6lb15. Baby is yet to make an appearance but seems to be bang on half a lb a week so expecting anything up to 8lb6 of I go to 41 weeks. This is on the 50th centile on scans (but 10% on fundal, hence the extra scans). Hope this helps.

Mybobowler · 03/11/2020 19:50

6lb 7oz at 36+4 for me - they said she was a good weight for her gestation, so maybe slightly above average.
