How much did your baby weigh at 36 weeks?

I've just been sent for a growth scan at 36 weeks due to the midwives concerns about slow growth and baby is measuring 6lbs. Just wondering how that compares to others scans and also how much do babies generally grow between weeks 36-40? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hello nice to meet you,

I am 14 seven days and I have been told my Pappa level is low which indicates low birth growth too.

I am scared as I have been told different things one minute I am ok not to worry then next no there is an issue. I have been reading a lot of stories on line about low birth growth and I am getting scared.

It sounds as though your midwife is concerned about slow growth not that your baby is small. So if when she has plotted your bump previously it was on the 75th centile and it is now say below the 50th that COULD suggest growth is starting to slow which COULD suggest placental issues. Scans are more accurate than measuring bump, which is why she has sent you fro a scan. If there are concerns about rate of growth you should have a follow up scan in 2 weeks to check that baby continues on the centile which the sonographer plotted you on today.

I can't remember exactly how big they thought DS was (from a growth scan) at 36 weeks but I remember that based on that they thought he'd be 5lb at 40 weeks and they were quite worried since that was a long way below where he 'should' be on my personalised growth chart, concerns about placenta, etc. I was booked in for induction at 40 weeks and regular CTGs until then as a result, was very anxious and upset etc. I went into natural labour at 39+1 and he was born weighing 7lb1! Scans are more accurate than measuring the bump, but they aren't perfect either

Ds was born at 36+5 & weighed 6lb 4oz.

6lbs at 36 weeks seems about perfect tbh. Scans aren't completely accurate at sizing though.
As a pp said slow growth doesn't necessarily mean they think the baby is small though.

DD was estimated at 6lb15oz at 36 week growth scan (actually at 35+6). She was 7lb 5oz when born at 37+5.

As a PP says, babies (on average) put on about half a pound per week after 36 weeks. So a 6lb baby at 36 weeks would be around 8lb by their due date. But as another PP says, it's not the size of the baby your midwife is worried about, but the rate at which they're growing. Slow/Slowing growth could be an indication of placenta insufficiency, so it's a good idea to have a more thorough check of baby via ultrasound, just to be sure. Bump measurements aren't fantastically accurate, so hopefully it's just a case of getting to see baby one last time before they're born.
