Wipes and nappies

Hi everyone

What wipes and nappies are you all buying for your babies? I've got a set of reusable wipes which I expect to use at home but will likely need some disposable wipes for out and about.

I also don't know where to start with choosing nappies! I want to help spread the cost by buying some bits and pieces now before my income drops.

What are you buying and why?

Mamia premium nappies - feel as though they provide a good deal and hold a good amount. Also the bigger sizes still have the wetness indicator which I like
Huggies wipes - Moist thick wipes

TBF OP wipes and nappies choices are very personal and preferences can change. You just have to find the right one to suit little one

Little lambs cloth nappies (which we use with the disposable liners which are biodegradable) and cheeky wipes. I use both out and about without any issues.

I started off buying pampers nappies for my kids when they were little, but personally found as they got bigger (usually the change to size 3 nappies was when it happened oddly) they would start leaking like no tomorrow. I also started off with water wipes at first when my eldest was born but they are pricey. There is more choice now though and more supermarkets have their own water wipe equivalent (if you want that type).

I have used so many brands of nappies but Aldi own brand are my favourite for both normal nappies and pull ups too. Aldi wipes are also my go to, they have a water wipe equivalent now too.

Another nice brand of disposable nappies, which are on the pricier side as they are eco friendly, are by a company called "mum and you." The nappies are so so soft and have lovely unique designs too. I use water wipes and pampers

Arguably the most expensive choices BUT if you bulk order them on Amazon using subscribe and save, plus the extra 15% saving then they don’t work out bad at all.

Only works if you have storage space for 30+ packs of wet wipes and 5+ bags of nappies

I only use pampers, won’t buy any of the other cheaper nappies personally (never had a problem with them) and pampers wipes

If you're thinking about cloth, there are lots of Facebook groups for selling second hand. Worth a look if you're up for preloved (appreciate that not everyone is). I bought a mix of brands - basically what I could get my hands on cheaply - and all were fine though I particularly love Charlie bananas.

I use reusable wipes our and about and they're fine. Just take a little water bottle and bring them back in a wet bag.

I got a bunch of cloth wipes, as disposable wipes are an ecological disaster and are full of chemicals.

I take reusable wipes out with me and a wet bag for them and nappies. I have a pack of Tesco wet wipes too for emergencies or in case it’s a nappy change without access to a sink, but I’ve had the same pack at the bottom of my bag now for several months as I rarely have to use them.

Nappies, I really love bambino mio wraps and prefolds. They just don’t leak, fit really well, pretty economical and (once you’ve got the hang of them) easy to use. I have some second hand bumgenius ones too, though they’re on their fourth, maybe fifth baby now and sort of gaping a bit at the thighs and getting leaky. They’ve served us well though.

For night times we use totsbots bamboozles with an extra booster and a wrap, and they are totally bombproof, have never had a leak.

For occasions when we need disposables I just get Tesco’s own brand and they seem fine.

Mamia from Aldi are fine, maybe use water wipes when the baby is tiny though.
After about a size 4 I found mamia nappies weren't really any good and leaked a lot. At that point I moved to pampers pull ups, that was nearer toilet training time anyway.

Aldi wipes and nappies are amazing. Sainsbury, Asda and Tesco nappies are good although I found the wipes quite dry and rough.

From my own experience the worst combination has got to be pampers nappies and huggies wipes! Pampers leak and sag down to the knees within the hour and huggies wipes are like damp pieces of tissue

Reusable wipes are fine out and about. You'll probably want a water bottle (for drinking) with you which you can use to dampen then and a waterproof bag for them to go in after.

We used little lambs initially with Ds1 but they take ages to dry without a tumbler. We moved to pocket nappies (much quicker to dry so need less and cheap as we got unbranded ones off eBay) which we used again with Ds2 and are planning to reuse once more with dc3.

Also reusable wipes are loads better at cleaning up poo/sticky hands/faces. All the disposable wipes we've tried have been dire in comparison

I use Alva baby reusable nappies. They were cheap to buy compared to other reusable nappies and I have not had any issues with them. However, pocket nappies are no good during the night as they can't absorb enough wee no matter how many pads you add. I did have some mother ease wraps that I used briefly which where literally bomb proof over night but they were HUGE and DD couldn't move when she had them on, so I must admit that I now use one disposable at night (Aldi/Lidl own brand) and she is much more comfortable. Maybe I will go back to the wraps when she is a bit bigger and has more strength to move and roll around.
I made my own reusable wipes and nappy liners out of fleece. The best fleece is thick (I used a cheap navy blanket from Ikea that I think cost £3 and made loads of liners and wipes).
When out and about I have biodegradable wipes that I buy in Lidl or Aldi. They only cost about 60p per pack so no more expensive than the normal ones.

We use pampers for nappies, tried other brands but found pampers to be the best. Boots do their own brand biodegradable wipes for our and about. If not, the pampers and Aldo ones are good. I find Huggies wipes dry. We used water wipes for the first few months.

Also used cloth wipes out and about with clean and dirty wetbags. Found them to be infinitely better at cleaning poo compared to disposables which just spread it around.
Our nappy preference was bumgenius elementals and motherease wizard unos. Both extremely slim, contained well amd easy to fit

Cloth mum ere.Ad variuose different kinds/brands of cloth. (I used to sell and promote them.) However when it came to spossies I used Own brands boots, morrisons both seemed fine and have used Aldi at work fine. Not such a fan of pampers. (Leaks and broken tabs, and not a fan of pull up style and neiother are many of my colleagues at work.)

Natty eco nappies and water wipes. I recently switched to Huggies pure extra care wipes as they are less than half the price of water wipes and still 99% water.

I accidentally brought ones that were huggies pure but not extra care - they were soapy and nasty.

Pampers Pure and Aveeno Wipes.

For wipes, Aldi wipes or Water Wipes. Huggies and Sainsbury’s own brand are quite thin, I find.

Nappies: we use Pampers for at night and long car journeys, and Sainsbury’s for everything else. Aldi are good too.

We have used a lot of different wipes/nappies and found Aldi the best or our supermarket equivalent SuperValu over here in Ireland are our go to, Pampers leaked terribly on our first son so we stuck to what we knew on Baba no 2. Wipes we stick to sensitive wipes with no fragrance,Huggies are ok,nice and thick,or we buy Pampers wipes when they go on special offer,we never used waterwipes I just thought they are very over priced,at home we used cotton wool or a soft wash cloth with water for the first few weeks then onto sensitive wipes

I've used a variety of supermarket branded nappies plus pampers, and a variety of retailer branded wipes plus Huggies and water wipes.

With nappies I wouldn't bulk buy as I found that as my daughter got bigger some retailers nappies didn't fit her well. You may also be left with too many nappies when they need to go up a size.

The only nappies I don't like at all are co-op and I don't rank Boots. With wipes I go for unscented ones. In the begining it was so she didn't get any reactions now it's to ensure I don't.

I use cloth nappies and wipes all the time, for wipes specifically I like Muslinz terry wipes the best.

I take them out dry, wet from a water bottle/tap as needed and pop straight into a wet bag after use to bring home.
