Does morning sickness get progressively worse?

Just that really. I'm 7w and have just started to feel bad the last few days. Nothing too serious, just constant nausea and dry retching, and I'm struggling to find foods I can stomach. But should I assume it's going to get worse before it gets better? Or is this it?

The answer you don't want to hear is - it varies! For me, it was at its worst around 9 weeks then it eased off around 12 weeks.

Sockbabies · 28/09/2020 20:33

Defo varies!

I had hypermises with my first and currently 8 weeks with my second and I'm constantly throwing up.

Fingers crossed it eases for you!

Nimsay1 · 28/09/2020 20:40

For me it started at exactly week 6 and got progressively worse up to week 9 until most days ended with me in tears, feeling very sorry for myself. It then plateaud and now at week 10 I have comparatively mild nausea (all day) and fatigue.

user1493413286 · 28/09/2020 20:45

I found that it pretty much stayed as it was at 7 weeks but everyone and each pregnancy is different so it’s hard to tell.

LaMadrilena · 28/09/2020 20:48

Pfff, maybe I didn't want to know! I'm just frustrated because I started off eating so well and I was so proud of myself, and now vegetables make me want to vom. I just want crisps.

Mine started at 6 weeks and by 8 week it hit peak, I'm now 13.5 weeks and only for about the last week can I eat proper meals again! Think of that beautiful baby at the end, it's so worth it but wow it's tough! Good luck😘 x

raspberryfields · 28/09/2020 20:53

Don't worry! Vegetables also made me feel
unwell - both times. But by around 14 weeks I was fine again and could eat healthily. Healthy eating is great, but don't torture yourself - your baby will take what it needs when the time comes and at the moment there is no placenta and your embryo largely lives off the egg sac. Go beige, eat crisps - whatever makes you feel non terrible.

Flamingolingo · 28/09/2020 20:53

Mine stayed at the 6/7 week level. I wasn’t actually sick at all but felt constantly sick. I also ate constantly but mostly crisps, breadsticks etc.

LaMadrilena · 28/09/2020 20:56

Thanks for sharing your experiences. Yep, I'm going to try to stick to the beige stuff and try to avoid the crisps (although I'm not promising anything...)

And apologies for duplicating this thread and various replies, I'm using the app and it's a bit dodgy!

I felt sea sick and couldn’t face vegetables for the whole of my first trimester. Very rarely actually threw up tho. Just felt like crap.
Sickness stopped at 12/13 weeks, replaced with pelvic pain. Oh the joy.

wishing3 · 28/09/2020 21:04

Mine just stayed the same from when it started, and went pretty early too (maybe 9 weeks?).

Mumtumwobble · 28/09/2020 21:21

I was sick pretty much every day from beginning to end with dd. It was horrific! But with ds it eased by around 17 weeks.

Junegirl20 · 28/09/2020 21:41

My sickness started at 7 weeks and ended around 12 weeks. So there is hope!!! I remember feeling awful and that it will never end. I did end up getting some help from GP that I took on the worse days

penguin423 · 28/09/2020 21:55

Mine started at 7 weeks and lasted until 13. Never vomited but that nauseous feeling was awful. Like you said, I usually eat loads of veg but it was an absolute no. Could manage citrus fruits on occasion. Midwife said just to eat what I wanted to and when I could. Turned out to mainly be toast! 27 weeks now and back eating as I used to.

All the best and you will get through it although it is so rough. Mine literally stopped at 13/14 weeks like a switch had been flicked!

theresaplaceforus · 28/09/2020 22:03

I wasn’t physically sick until 9 weeks but for the whole of the first trimester I just didn’t fancy eating very much at all. I threw up on and off - mainly in the evenings until about 16 weeks and then it stopped but I would literally throw up my entire dinner. I didn’t put any weight on until after 24 weeks ish.

Twobecomingthreeplusthedog · 29/09/2020 09:23

I felt SO sick when I found out for about 10 days (4 weeks to 6 weeks) but then it has died down a little and now I feel relatively normal expect SO tired. Hoping it doesn’t come back with a vengeance Grin

AegonT · 29/09/2020 11:39

Mine stayed at the 6 week level till 9 weeks, got worse for several days then got better in steps till it was gone at 15 weeks (alot better from 12 though and you kind of get used to it). I'm 9 weeks with my second now and I think I'm past the peak again.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 29/09/2020 11:51

Mine always peaked around 8/9 weeks (and I had HG all the way to labour, but week 8 was always the darkest!)

MichelleOR84 · 29/09/2020 11:56

With my first pregnancy I peaked between 8–10 weeks but even then it wasn’t constant . I would have good days and bad days ( but definitely more bad ).

With my second pregnancy I never got morning sickness but I was super tired and I never noticed it getting progressively worse . I definitely noticed it progressively getting better though but that was between 12-20 weeks .

LaMadrilena · 29/09/2020 14:01

I went to the gym this morning and felt loads better while exercising, then came back and hurled more violently than I've ever hurled in my life. But I've just discovered I can tolerate a Laughing Cow sandwich, so that's good.

Mine peaked at 9.5 weeks, then rapid dropoff.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 29/09/2020 16:46

Mine started at week 7, and ended at week 37. Exercise also helped me a lot. I used to walk for miles because walking in the fresh air was one of the only things that helped my crippling nausea.

Twobecomingthreeplusthedog · 29/09/2020 16:54

The last two days I have got half way round a dog walk and needed to rush home to the toilet with explosive diarrhoea, no idea what’s wrong with my digestive system but it’s slightly embarrassing sprinting with your legs crossed across the park! Hoping it’s not some symptom of pregnancy Grin
