What is the age gap between your children? We’re thinking of trying again and dd1 is 12 months old.

Highheels87 · 15/09/2020 19:53

2.5 years and our third will be 10 years

We started trying when my DS was 11.5 months old and we got pregnant the first time. I wasn’t expecting that 😯 . I’m now 31 weeks pregnant and my children will be about 20-21 months apart in age .

Pregnancy has been difficult with a one year old energetic toddler and I’m trying not to stress about having a baby as my DS goes into his “ terrible twos “ 😫!! My sister and I are 20 months apart and we were best friends growing up . We still are . I’m hoping my children will have the same bond .

My daughter was 3yrs 2 months when my son was born which was great as she got the 30hours funding!

There is no way it would have been feasible to pay 2 lots of full time childcare not a chance!

I'm currently pregnant so there will be 4 years between mine, I did want a closer age gap but it's not too far apart

Gerdticker · 15/09/2020 20:33

All being well, 3.5 years between DC1 and Dc2

I think the WHO recommendation is to leave a gap of at least 2 years between pregnancies, to allow you to fully recover and minimise risks? But obviously there are lots of other personal factors to consider such as your age etc x

tryingharder92 · 15/09/2020 20:33

22 months

BrassicaBabe · 15/09/2020 20:34

CoodleMoodle · 15/09/2020 20:35

4 years (and 4 months). Sometimes it's a tricky gap, sometimes it's lovely!

GirlCalledJames · 15/09/2020 20:39

11 months (planned). It’s the perfect gap for us.

Nobeautysleep · 15/09/2020 20:42

Thanks for your replies! It’s so interesting to hear how other people’s age gaps have worked out... my hubby is 40 next year so he is eager to TTC due to his age. Hopefully, we’d have an age gap of at least 22 months... I think if he wasn’t turning 40, we’d maybe have waited a little bit longer, but he’s worried he’ll be too old. we’re very lucky too as we have a lot of hands on from our families

27 months for us. Free nursery hours will kick in for the oldest when I finish my 1 year maternity leave so the timing is perfect. The oldest also in a good place to ease the burden of looking after 2. When he hit 24 months we made sure to toilet train and transition him out of his cot into a toddler bed. By 25-26 months he was communicating extremely well, has a good level of independence, easily occupies himself and happy to play for long periods of time on his own. It's been a good gap and I'm glad we waited just that couple months past 2 as the developmental changes have been significant enough to make a difference.

BiBabbles · 15/09/2020 20:55

Between 2.25-2.5 years.

While everyone has to weigh the risks and benefits for themselves, the general recommendations from different health organizations is to wait at least 12-18 months (more lean towards the latter) between pregnancies to reduce short- and long-term health risks for the mother.

bestbeforedateexpired · 15/09/2020 20:56

18 months. Perfect gap for us. One school year apart. Shared interests and the baby proofing stage over pretty quickly.

twoticksvix · 15/09/2020 21:00

2 minutes here too Grin

FilthyforFirth · 15/09/2020 21:03

All being well 3.4. I would have preferred a slightly shorter age gap. However I can now see a lot of benefits. DS has free hours as of this month, is potty trained, can communicate well etc. He will start school and I will return to work a few months from mat leave later so I think it will be nice to be around for his first term at school.

RosamundePilcher · 15/09/2020 21:03
