Coming home outfit (for you)

I'm starting to think about what to pack in my hospital bag and not sure what I should be packing to come home in? I'm having a November baby...what would you recommend?

Also a couple of other things...did you only get dressed into proper clothes for leaving the hospital so you only need one actual outfit other than nightwear?

In terms of sizing, I'm usually a 10-12 and have been wearing size 12 maternity up until now, would you say to pack the same size for coming home or did you get a lot bigger/go up a size during the third trimester?

Sorry for all the questions, ftm and a bit baffled!

You will still be the same size you were at about 7 months pregnant (ish) when you’ve had the baby - with all 3 of mine I went home in the clothes I turned up at hospital in (DH might have brought a fresh top in, but definitely bottom half wise!).

PotteringAlong · 02/09/2020 18:27

But no, I didn’t need a bigger size of maternity clothes. They’re very stretchy!

SummerHouse · 02/09/2020 18:28

Just have one or two comfortable versatile outfits that would fit. E.g. leggings, floaty top, cardigan. Think black trousers, leggings as you might for a heavy period. BIG pants. Easy access for feeding.

PotteringAlong · 02/09/2020 18:29

Yes! Big pants!

(Keep for later. V useful at Christmas Grin)

Also a ftm due in November so mostly just following with interest but - top advice I've been given is that a dress is helpful in the event of a C-Section. For going home I'm going for a Jojo nursing dress that I picked up cheap and misjudged the size on (I'm a 10-12, it's a 12-14) and some cheap maternity leggings for warmth.

Also consider taking a dress or where the seam is on trousers. I took my maternity joggers and some PJ bottoms but ended up having a EMCS and the waistband (before the big over bump bit) sat right on my scar so was too painful to wear home!

rollonoctober · 02/09/2020 18:33

I went home in the same clothes I wore going in (planned section so clothes only worn for the drive from home to hospital, then put away ready to wear for the return journey).

Mc3209 · 02/09/2020 18:33

I've packed my maternity leggins, black tank top, and a waterfall cardigan (plus a coat). Due very end of October.

Bluntness100 · 02/09/2020 18:34

I just came home I what I went in in, not like I had them on for any length of time. Just took clean knickers bra and nightwear.

Tothecuntry · 02/09/2020 18:35

Just maternity clothes. Loose dress and leggings.

Stargazer87 · 02/09/2020 18:36

I was thinking maybe leggings, top and waterfall cardigan too, I've got some nice maternity ones from Jojo.

I had dd in May but I had like harem trousers, stretchy top and Cardigan. I know you'll be cold when coming out but the ward is SO hot thwt if you're waiting around in it you might get hot!

Stargazer87 · 02/09/2020 20:13

I've heard about the wards being hot!

Most women stay in their maternity clothes as after the birth you'll still look pregnant Smile so just pack what youd have normally been wearing xx

WellThatsNew · 02/09/2020 22:44

I didn't really think about it tbh. I just popped on my denim dress and went. It's actually the best I ever looked in that dress.. Grin

lilythepink32 · 02/09/2020 22:46

Wear something comfy home.

Take 3 sets of pjs.

One set for when your waters broke, one for labour and one for after labour.

ScatteredMama82 · 02/09/2020 22:47

Maternity leggings and loose breastfeeding top. I honestly didn't care what I looked like, I would have gone home in a bin bag if it was quicker!

Crabbo · 02/09/2020 22:50

Whatever it is make sure it’s dark colours - you’ll be paranoid about leaking otherwise (I’m sure you won’t leak onto your clothes but it can be a bit of a shock seeing how much comes out so better to feel safe!)

WhyIsItSoHardToPickAUsername · 02/09/2020 22:52

Maternity leggings, top and cardigan will be fine.
Pack easy to put on shoes as bending over could be difficult. Also take flip flops for the shower.

WhyIsItSoHardToPickAUsername · 02/09/2020 22:53

You won't need bigger maternity clothes

WhyIsItSoHardToPickAUsername · 02/09/2020 22:54

I was in for 2 nights and 3 days with ds. I did get dressed into normal clothes in hospital. Just maternity yoga pants and a nursing vest

New2020 · 02/09/2020 22:57

Planning on wearing just pjs on the ward

Then a very unglamorous joggers and hoody home due early Nov

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 02/09/2020 23:01

With my first i came home 8n the same clothes I was wearing before I was pregnant. My belly just disappeared. Second was almost the same bit I had put on weight. This time it will have to be leggings and a baggy jumper because I have no one what size I will be I've already put on 2 stone and only 20 weeks.

CookieMumsters · 02/09/2020 23:02

I had to stay in for almost a week with DD, so I got into a routine of getting dressed in normal clothes each day. If we have a 2nd, I'll probably pack a 'just in case' bag that DH can bring to the hospital for me, instead of him randomly guessing what he thinks will fit.

WhyIsItSoHardToPickAUsername · 03/09/2020 07:26

Yes, I packed a second bag to leave in the car as only took enough for 1 night & day into the hospital. I was glad I'd packed it.
