I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

@Wingingitatlifesincebirth this is my second pregnancy.

LucindaE · 26/10/2020 18:55

bex757 I hope you got a bed and are getting fluids.
gretagreengrapes Signs of dehydration are scanty, dark urine, dry mouth and skin, sometimes a headache, blurry vision and if severe confusion (avoid leaving it to that stage!). While kesostix aren't the best test of dehydration, hospitals do take their measurements seriously. You can get them from a pharmacy or online.

Currently on iv fluids and for a bed, have had anti sickness injection.

Izniz · 26/10/2020 20:09

Just a quick note to say thank you. Finding and reading these posts almost brought tears to my eyes. It can be very isolating feeling this awful - esp as some of my friends are pregnant and living their best lives (good for them, but i do feel a bit jealous). Going on cyclizine tomorrow so fingers crossed for improvement.

Wingingitatlifesincebirth · 27/10/2020 03:47

Well I am awake it’s almost 4 am I took a second ondansetron and literally passed out out with complete exhaustion currently sipping on a glass of flat coke and hoping for a better day tomorrow, feeling all the mum guilt as it’s half term. Passing the sick bucket to all who need it today - remember this is only temporary xxx

bex757 · 27/10/2020 09:22

I'm back up the hospital for more fluids today and another shot of anti sickness as I still can't keep anything down, I have just had a scan which puts me a 6 + 3!

Wingingitatlifesincebirth · 27/10/2020 09:34

Morning @bex757 sorry to hear your so low that you cannot keep anything down even after some fluids , hopefully the second round will be much more effective. I do remember one of my hospital visits were the injection didn’t work but I think I was so low I needed double dose. I hope you come out feeling much better xx

bex757 · 27/10/2020 15:34

I'm finally feeling better, 3 injections later and I have eaten something that's kept down! x

Wingingitatlifesincebirth · 27/10/2020 15:39

Can anyone who has tried ondansetron alongside
Metrozopole ? I think that’s how it’s spelt my vomiting has been getting worse and 4mg of ondansetron twice per day isn’t cutting it so I’ve been given This alongside it can anyone who is on this mix of meds let me did it help?

BB2021 · 27/10/2020 15:57

@bex757
Really sorry to hear how unwell you have been. I hope they find the right mix of hydration and medication for you x

Do you mean metoclopramide?

Metronidazole is an antibiotic that causes great nausea so definitely don't want that!

Tiff94 · 27/10/2020 16:46

Ladies who are still suffering try pushing to get to see someone else if it's gotten so bad. After I tried all the basic anti sickness and many hospital trips fro rehydration I'm now taking xonvea, steroids, thiamine and ondansetron and since then I've literally felt so much better after 8weeks of crap I'm finally feel great

Wingingitatlifesincebirth · 27/10/2020 17:35

@gretagreengrapes yes sorry lol my brain is not functioning def the latter

LucindaE · 27/10/2020 18:45

Izniz Welcome. I hope the Cyclizine helps. Everyone is very supportive on this thread. Here is my normal spiel, which I hope will help. Most sufferers find that they improve a lot at some point between weeks 14 and 20. Even those who are unlucky enough to suffer throughout generally are not as ill later on as they are in the first part. A good anti acid can make a surprising difference to the sickness. Kesostix are worth buying online or from a chemists, as while they aren't they best test of dehydration, hospitals take them seriously. Some drinks that have helped others: full sugar flat coke, ice lollies, the juice of tinned fruit, Lucozade, apple juice, Ribina, Dr Pepper, soda water, Elderflower water, tonic water, ice cubes, Iron Bru, lemonade, lemon squash, orange squash, orange juice (if not too acid), fizzy orange, 7Up, isotonic drinks, sips of chocolate milkshake (maybe soya), fizzy water, apple juice, Robinson's fruit drinks, Rubicon sparkling mango drink , raspberry Lucozade sport and frozen ice cubes of flat Lucozade sport . Foods of a sort include tinned fruit, cuppa soup, nibbles of crisps and chips, cheap ice cream, Scotch pancakes, bagels and biscuits.
bex757 I am sorry to hear that the first fluids, injection etc didn't help and I do hope that today's treatment does.
wingingitatlifesincebirth How horrible to be awake at 4am. Everything seems worse then. A lot of sufferers on here have found Metaclopramide combined with Ondansetron very helpful. Grin, about pasing the sick bucket!
Tiff94 I do hope that combination helps you.
Waves to BB2021 , GretaGreenGrapes and everyone...

Hi @LucindaE 👋 thanks for your continuing support on this thread.

After 12 weeks (15 weeks gestation now) of nausea, vomiting, meds and weight loss, I've just eaten a small dinner and a bowl of cereal because I was ravenous and feeling good! What is this? Is this the end of HG? Has anyone else had this but then symptoms have come back?

I hope everyone is getting the help they need x

SweetpeaOrMarigold · 27/10/2020 22:32

I'm back! Have now worked through cyclizine, stemitel and metoclopramide and started ondansetron today. They didnt say if I take it with the metaclopromide or not. Will look up the rcog guidelines.
Each one works for a few days and then the vomiting slowly returns. Today was the 'I cant eat but if I don't I will vomit' feeling. Hate that absolute zero desire to eat or drink, but hated IV fluids more so pushing myself to sip ice ice cold water regularly. More than a sip and it's back straight away. 11 weeks now, by 13 I was much better with my first so fingers crossed.
@Doughnut100 I'm stunned at your receptionist! So glad ours is all app and phone calls thanks to covid, its tons better

SweetpeaOrMarigold · 27/10/2020 22:42

Oh sorry dodgy link but just Google rcog hyperemesis and it's the first link.

Mulderitssme · 28/10/2020 06:34

I've honestly had enough. I'm 11 weeks and had sickness for 7 weeks. I'm on medication but it's not really helping. Not being sick but constant retching. I'm exhausted and had at least two infections in the past three weeks and thrush. I don't know what to do apart from sleep.

SweetpeaOrMarigold · 28/10/2020 08:14

@Mulderitssme which medication is it? There are a few options that might make you better? Otherwise...same. Really fed up now. Half term and I've promised a day out today but just want to lie in bed. Not told him yet as 11 weeks too

Mulderitssme · 28/10/2020 10:15

I've been on cyclazine, one I can't remember the name of and Prochloraperazine. There's another one I could try but there is a risk of developing a cleft pallet so trying to hold off on that one. There just doesn't seem to be any end to this. I'm beyond exhausted now.

bex757 · 28/10/2020 12:18

So I got out of hospital yesterday afternoon feeling better, but that's gone downhill last night with more sickness, this morning I have eaten but still feel sick! I'm on 3 types of anti sickness medication! Just hope the meds work! No idea when I will go back to work and we can't live on ssp! x

Wingingitatlifesincebirth · 28/10/2020 12:20

I’ve literally bought sickness bands today as despite the medication I feel horrendously nausea and gagging constantly, I am so worried as I’m only 6 weeks 5 days that this is going to get so much worse before it gets better and already finding it difficult to cope Confused

bex757 · 28/10/2020 12:26

@Wingingitatlifesincebirth I'm only 6 weeks + 4 as well x

LucindaE · 28/10/2020 20:59

Gretagreengrapes I am glad the thread is helpful. Good days are often a sign of the turnaround to come, with more. Happy to hear of that.
SweetpeaOrMarigold Is this the first time you've been on Ondansetron? If so, do invest in an laxative, as it locks up the bowels. It is generally considered one of the most helpful meds.Great advice. Fingers crossed for your improving around then this time, too.
Mulderitsme Oh dear. Were you on antibiotics for the infections, as they can set off thrush? Do ask for treatment for it for pregnant women. I hope things improve for you soon.
bex757 Thiat is discouraging the improvement was so brief. I hope those meds start working soon. Can you work from home?
Wingingitatlifesincebirth Sorry you feels so bad. Does an anti acid help you?
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked...
