So i’m 37 weeks and had to come to in to monitor baby due to reduced movements etc. I came in today for what was suppose to be 30 mins of monitor, Told me to wait about to speak to a doctor
Obviously it’s getting late and asked if there was an update as i needed to go home, they said doctor was “busy” and said he shouldn’t be long.
Well long story short they have just come in and told me that doctors not happy with Monitoring results and i am getting induced TONIGHT.
I have literally never ever been so scared in my life, i have nothing with me and i feel so unprepared, I didn’t get induced with DC1 and all i’ve heard is horror stories.
Please ladies give me some positive experiences i’m a wreck 😢 And feel so alone right now!

Get someone to get a bag together and bring it. If it’s the pessaries then you’ll likely have one tonight and get another tomorrow before anything actually happens. Some people need three and then it’s a drip. That’s more difficult as you can’t move around but it’s unlikely you’ll need that. I didn’t have any pain until I was in active labour then everything was super fast, started contractions at 10.30, had her at 2.10.

nettytree · 22/08/2020 23:40

Believe me, while it's not nice being induced. Having a lovely baby at the end makes it all worthwhile.

notthemum · 22/08/2020 23:42

Hi OP. I am sorry I have no advice at all but I am here if you want me. 💐

Shmithecat2 · 22/08/2020 23:45

No advice (I was booked for an induction on my due date but ds decided to come on his own the day before), but Flowers. Just think of the beautiful baby you're going to meet soon!

coronafiona · 22/08/2020 23:49

I was induced at 37 weeks! I have beautiful happy children as a result. Big hugs to you, you get to meet that baby soon! Woo hoo!

HairDilemmas · 22/08/2020 23:53

Oh love - when this happened to me I was really panicked and burst into tears (often!)

With an induction things start slow; you'll get a pessary inserted probably overnight, then they'll check you tomorrow to see if anything has progressed. Nothing super dramatic is about to happen right now, so use this time to lie down and let yourself be led through it and looked after.

My first induction was 49 hours start to finish. Sounds awful but at least 42 of those were immensely boring.

You'll be fine. Get someone to bring your stuff in: phone charger, toiletries, hand cream because you'll end up washing your hands a lot with the horrible hospital gel, magazines, earphones, slippers, hairbrush, decent snacks.

I know it's scary but you're here now; in a day or two you'll be a mum forever. Good luck!

Mummab123456 · 22/08/2020 23:55

I honestly have never ever felt so scared in my life 😖. They said they think they’ll be able to pop my waters? Not sure if this means anything but they said it’s a good thing. I should be feeling excited to meet my baby finally, but honest to god there’s no excitement just pure fear. Not spoke to baby’s father most of pregnancy as he’s just useless and so unsupportive ☹️ anxiety at its highest! Thank you ladies for your reply’s , It’s nice to speak to someone, i don’t really have anyone to speak to and going to be a long night!!!

If they can break your waters that's great!

I would come and hold your hand if I could, I remember it so vividly; my teeth were chattering I was so nervous.

Second induction was (honest to god) brilliant, I'd do it again if I could.

I'll be thinking of you. You can do this! I promise when they put a baby on your chest it'll be unforgettable.

Do you know if it's a boy or girl? Any names on the shortlist?

notthemum · 23/08/2020 00:06

Keep talking to us lovely, we are here to support you as much as we can.

Piixxiiee · 23/08/2020 00:09

Ah thinking of you , you will be fine. My waters leaked at 37 weeks and I went in for a check- in complete denial (dh threw bag in the car even though I explained we didnt need ut) I needed to be induced and was given drip. No pain relief, 3 hours labour. But I was terrified and my mind wasnt in the right place to accept I was having a baby so that made a big difference, I do understand the fear factor and the complete taken by suprise feeling but do try to take deep breathes, listen to music etc and relax. Get an epi! Good luck xxx

latheritup · 23/08/2020 00:10

I had a positive induction a few months ago. The pessary dilated me to 2cm, they broke my waters and I delivered 5 hours later - in the pool as no hormone drip needed!! No tears, no drugs and I was home 5 hours after that.

You can do it Smile

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 23/08/2020 00:11

Hand hold over here! I was induced with my first baby In April and it was really positive!

Put the Pessary in at 11am lots of bouncing on ball watching Netflix. 6pm mild period pain. 11pm bit more period style cramps had a bath and two paracetamol. 1am waters went spontaneously. 2am contractions starting properly 3am had diamorphine helped for a bit 5am fully dialled and ready to push. 6.30am he was born!

Have you got a birthing partner? Is someOne coming with your things? Try to get as active as you can but also rest.

Good luck you will soon be meeting you baby

Mummab123456 · 23/08/2020 00:17

Not sure if this is a stupid question but what is this pessary? Will i need that if they break my waters. I will ask doctor all this once he’s back i just feel so taken aback. Your lovely comments are helping though 😔

I got induced with my third as he was 10 data late, so at least I had warning. They could break my waters (only a bit uncomfortable) and they my body did most of the rest with a little bit of hormonal help near the end. I found early labour much easier than with my natural labour and the whole thing was 7 hours. The final half hour was tough but mainly because DS was huge and had him arm in a silly position. Good luck!!

TenDays · 23/08/2020 00:19

You and your baby are going to be just FINE! I'm sending you good vibes.

Mummab123456 · 23/08/2020 00:19

Due to coronavirus no one allowed in with me till i’m 6cm. But as i’m not with partner (he’s not interested tbh) and I the only other person i really have is looking after my DC1. So also dosent help knowing i’m doing this alone 😕

ImFree2doasiwant · 23/08/2020 00:21

Good luck OP. I had my waters broken and didn't need anything else. The pesary opens your cervix I think, and then the drip moves things along further. Ask all the questions you want when the Dr sees you.

Mummab123456 · 23/08/2020 00:22

DramaAlpaca · 23/08/2020 00:24

Another handhold from me. Hope all goes well Flowers

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 23/08/2020 00:32

@Mummab123456 the Pessary has hormones in it which shorten and soften your cervix which helps to kick start the labour process. It looks a bit like a tampon but smaller. Unless they use a gel which is put up near your cervix. Once your cervix is dilated enough they then might break your waters. Personally mine went without intervention so you don’t always need them breaking manually.

Is anyone bringing your hospital bag for you? You will be brilliant. The midwives will totally look after you. I was on my own until established labour too.

PeaceAndHarmoneeee · 23/08/2020 00:35

Goodness, what a shock to go in for checking and be told you're going to be induced there and then!

I was induced at 35 weeks with my 2nd, it was an easier and better experience than my spontaneous labour with DC1.

Had a sweep and a pessary inserted at 10am, read my book, no twinges or anything till my waters went at 1pm and he was born just an hour later! Fast and furious once my waters went, no time (or need really) for pain relief except a bit of g&a - unlike with DS1 when I had a 14 hour labour, epidural, g&a, ventouse delivery etc!

So an induction can be ok!

Wishing you lots of luck and a safe delivery!

Dyra · 23/08/2020 00:47

Pretty sure the pessary is given to open your cervix enough to have your waters broken. Once your waters are broken, it's hoped you'll go into labour on your own. If not, then the drip is next.

Good luck OP. I was induced at 37 weeks last September with my first. It was incredibly daunting being initially told that I was going to be induced either later that day or the next day. I went on to be induced a week later, but like you, I had nothing with me and I was completely unprepared to have my baby so soon. But you will be fine. You're just going to be holding DC 2 a bit sooner than anticipated!

Hopefully someone, anyone will be able to get your hospital bag to you. Even if they have to drop it off at the entrance, and a staff member brings it in for you.

For what it's worth, my induction was a positive one. Pessaries just about got my cervix open enough to have my waters broken. Waters being broken didn't trigger labour, so I had the drip put up. 11 hours on the drip, 1 shot of diamorphine (at 3cm dilated), and 20 minutes of pushing later, I had my daughter.

RunningHoops · 23/08/2020 00:53

TOP TIP:. Don't eat the pessary like the lady in the cubicle next to me did. Grin

Good luck OP - I look forward to your updates.
