I’m 7+2 and despite not physically being sick I’ve been suffering from debilitating nausea. I can’t move too quickly because it sets me off, I’m struggling to eat and just feel generally rubbish. I struggle getting out of bed, and I’m the kind of person that can power through colds/bugs.

I imagine anti sicknesses wouldn’t be prescribed as I’m not physically being sick?

If anyone has any tips on how to combat the nausea it would be much appreciated!

Rich tea biscuits and flat coke (Diet Coke and only in small quantities because of the caffeine).
I was never sick and wasn't really nauseous but on the days I did feel rough I had those and it helped a little.
Ginger crystals to suck on from a health shop (Holland & Barratt) work wonders too!
Hope you feel better soon!

Ginger biscuits anything with ginger in is helpful.

heroineinahalfshell · 17/08/2020 12:25

I had this and found if I didn't allow myself to feel hungry it eased the nausea. So I snacked constantly on rich tea & ginger biscuits, and ginger ale helped a lot too. I also couldn't stomach sweet foods so switched to snacking on fruit which helped.

howmanyroads · 17/08/2020 12:35

Feeling exactly the same as you, and as pp said the only thing that's helping me is not letting myself get hungry even though its a struggle to even think of something I can eat :(

Lelophants · 17/08/2020 12:36

I also found eating helped. For me it was toast and jam, or cheese on toast or ritz crackers.

welshladywhois40 · 17/08/2020 13:14

Flat lemonade and basic food like toast, ginger biscuits - I find carbs help keep nausea away. For me the key is small snacks regularly as I feel more sick if my tummy is empty.

I treat this part of pregnancy like a hangover - so food like sausage rolls tends to help. But that it what I would like when I am hungover.

And key is to start early - get some breakfast in as soon as you wake up followed by some more breakfast an hour later.

Goslowlysideways · 17/08/2020 13:16

You need to eat. Little and often and not after 6. I took a few crackers to bed and some water. Then I would eat them the moment I woke up.

scrivette · 17/08/2020 13:20

As others have said, little and often and don't allow yourself to get dehydrated. Ice chips/ice cubes and lollies help to keep you hydrated if you can't face drinks.

The doctors will prescribe for nausea if it is affecting your ability to eat.

scrivette · 17/08/2020 13:21

Also, I found it easier to drink/sip through a straw instead of drinking straight from a glass or cup.

twinmum2017 · 17/08/2020 13:23

You absolutely can get anti nausea meds for this. I had all day (and all night) nausea and was borderline to send to hospital as I hadn't eaten enough and my body was going in to starvation.

Anti sickness medication saved me!

Whatthedoodle · 17/08/2020 16:20

Thanks everyone for your replies, I’m going to go shopping for some ginger biscuits and plain ish food today so hopefully that helps! This is torture Sad

Ginger can make things worse though. However, anti sickness tablets CAN be prescribed just for nausea, especially if it's affecting you so much you can't get out of bed etc.

basaltx · 17/08/2020 18:16

If the nausea is that bad - the doctor's can prescribe something. They did for me and it's really helped :)
They'll ask what you've already tried! But I got to the point where I couldn't do anything - I could only lie down and any movement made me really really nauseous

LouJ85 · 17/08/2020 18:39

I'm 5 weeks and suffering with awful nausea that has had me bed ridden last few days, but I'm not vomiting. GP has prescribed me antisickness meds with no issues at all because my symptoms are so debilitating. I'd definitely ask - no point suffering when there's something that could help you.

Cr17 · 17/08/2020 21:18

I had the same problem, during the first trimester i felt sick all the time but was never physically sick!
I couldnt tolerate cooking as the smell of that would make me feel worse and I ended up having pretty plain foods to keep me going!
I also tried not to allow myself to feel hungry for too long as it made it feel worse!
I was given some sickness wrist bands and I wore those constantly (only took them off to shower) although it didn't take the sickness away completely they did help!
I'm 22 weeks now and (touch wood) i haven't felt any sickness during the 2nd trimester and enjoying food again 🥳
hope it eases for you soon as i know its not nice x

Whatthedoodle · 17/08/2020 22:09

I’m going to speak to my doctor tomorrow and see if I can be prescribed anything. I’ve also orders some wristbands to see if they help too. At the minute I can have one meal a day, the nausea is bad of a morning and night so I have a window of opportunity in the day time to squeeze a meal in but I know it’s not enough. Plus, i never manage to finish it. Although I can almost always stomach a cup of hot tea so it’s not too bad.

@Cr17 how did you find the wrist bands? I was up feeling a drunk kind of nauseous at 3am this morning so I’m hoping if I can sleep with them it may prevent this!

Arrowroot biscuits...these can be tricky to find but are still available in supermarkets. Also small bags of mini cheddar crackers and lots of icy water, salt and vinegar crisps too.

toucancancan · 17/08/2020 22:16

Sleep, eat what you can when you can, and take it one day at a time. It is all worth it

Felicityfi16 · 17/08/2020 22:19

I took a couple of biscuits and a glass of squash to bed with me and ate it as soon as I woke up in the morning and this helped massively

Legallybleachblonde · 17/08/2020 22:20

I had this and it's bloody awful. That constant taste urghhh. I could only make it go away by eating sour fizzy sweets like Tangfastics. Or salt and vinegar crisps. Hope you find a solution that suits you OP

I had exactly the same. The only thing that worked for me was ice lollies (I even made up some water only ones), fizzy sweets and ginger biscuits. At 13 weeks the nausea just completely disappeared, fingers crossed this just happens for you too :)

PlanetSlattern · 17/08/2020 22:39

I remember this: was awful, but did start to ease by about 11 weeks. I nibbled on plain Oliver Bath Biscuits every time the nausea increased and drank loads of cold water; ginger made me heave. Lost about a stone in six weeks. Also realised part of it (where it felt like I'd been punched in the solar plexus) was indigestion (for the first time ever) so medication for that helped. Lots of sleep; set your alarm for an hour at lunchtime. Congratulations!

YesINameChangeEveryDay · 17/08/2020 23:06

Try travel sickness bands

wigglerose · 17/08/2020 23:26

Ginger didn't work for me. However, jacobs crackers or jacobs crackers with a scratch of butter did. When I didn't feel like eating anything I could get down a quarter of a biscuit and it settled my stomach.
