I’m 7+2 and despite not physically being sick I’ve been suffering from debilitating nausea. I can’t move too quickly because it sets me off, I’m struggling to eat and just feel generally rubbish. I struggle getting out of bed, and I’m the kind of person that can power through colds/bugs.

I imagine anti sicknesses wouldn’t be prescribed as I’m not physically being sick?

If anyone has any tips on how to combat the nausea it would be much appreciated!

Travel sickness bands and sipping flat lemonade out of drinks flask helped me

Also when o felt really sick was my body telling me to eat and then I'd feel better

TenThousandSpoons0 · 18/08/2020 04:03

You can definitely take meds for this - and you shouldn’t feel you have to manage without! There are loads of different options. Certainly try PP suggestions re food types/ginger/etc etc but I think often people suffer more than necessary because of reluctance to just take some medications (or reluctance by certain doctors to prescribe). Pyridoxine might be a good place to start- vitamin supplement proven to help nausea, not a nausea medication as such.

nasiisthebest · 18/08/2020 04:40

I ate a banana before getting up in the morning, lots of little snacks during the day and lots of sleep. Being tired made the nausea worse somehow. Those things didn't make it go away but lessened it a bit. And remember: it really is temporary.

custardbear · 18/08/2020 04:48

You have to find what works for you - it was those rolls of refresher sweets for me - hardly touched them since I was last pregnant lol

Flumo · 18/08/2020 04:54

I got anti-sickness when 8 weeks pregnant, it was mostly the dizziness that affected me and they really helped.

Cr17 · 18/08/2020 05:45

@Whatthedoodle I found them ok for me personally, they didn't take the sickness away completely but they did help in easing it which was better than what it was.
I wore mine to bed aswell, they were on my wrists all the time... i wasn't taking any chances 😁

Soon2bemummyof3 · 18/08/2020 13:08

I was suffering with actual vomiting along with the nausea and the gp prescribed me with promethazine which had helped massively. I take it at night so I can sleep. During the day I've actually found fizzy sweets help believe it or not.. like the kind you get in a 10p mix, cola bottles, dummies etc. Could t believe how well they worked xx

Whatthedoodle · 18/08/2020 14:28

I’m going to get some tangfastics later and give them a try - anything at this point! I’m actually feeling a little better today than I have done in the past week but no doubt it’ll creep back up tonight. I managed a sandwich this morning which is unheard of so it’s a small victory!

It's awful and truly debilitating. Just find anything that helps you - mine was strawberry bonbons and vimto. They really worked for me! I was still sick but they gave me blessed relief from the nausea!

JemimaTiggywinkle · 18/08/2020 14:40

I’m in a similar situation - nausea with no vomiting.

I find mine is much worse on an empty stomach.. can just feel the stomach acid bubbling around. So I’m forcing myself to eat a small breakfast as soon as I get up, and then cream crackers a couple of hours later.

I’m also having gaviscon after meals.. even though I don’t have heartburn, I think I must have excess acid because I’m getting really bloated/gassy which is making me feel really full and sick.

Hope you find something that helps you.

LunaLoveFood · 18/08/2020 14:45

Travel sickness wrist bands helped me.

Whatthedoodle · 18/08/2020 14:47

I spoke too soon, I feel like I’m on a long car ride with motion sickness. The small break from feeling like this was nice. Sad

Mine was the same, the only thing that helped was constant snacking and never letting myself get hungry... I just ate whatever I could stomach which was different things most days, I would just go to the shop and buy whatever I thought I could handle.

Kodiak83 · 18/08/2020 17:57

I just had to sleep as soon as the nausea hit. Multiple times a day, sometimes constant but there would be peaks in it for sure. It’s so brutal but only thing that really helped coupled with never letting myself get hungry. It does pass but is so so tough. Hope you get some relief soon x

twinmum2017 · 18/08/2020 18:13

@Whatthedoodle honestly go and get the meds. Travel sickness crossed with a hangover is how I described it. It was simply awful. Once I had the medication I was able to mostly keep it at bay by eating plenty of small snacks, and as other have said NEVER let yourself get too hungry, it makes it worse and then you're stuck in that vicious cycle again!

newtb · 18/08/2020 18:24

I found dried fruit and nuts helped as when my blood sugar got low I got a little nauseous. Fortunately wasn't ever sick.

Yesterdayforgotten · 19/08/2020 10:28

It is awful op, I dont envy you. With my second pregnancy it came back in the third trimester Shock I much prefer having my babies here and not being pregnant and envy those ladies who breeze through it!

Whatthedoodle · 19/08/2020 11:22

Thanks everyone! I’m trying to not let myself get hungry and eating little and often now. I regret it once I’ve eaten because nothing seems to settle well but it’s way better than being hungry.

I’m wondering whether it could just be low blood sugars because I’m quite dizzy all the time so I’ve got some haribo at the ready for when I can stomach it.

@Yesterdayforgotten that was me in my previous pregnancies! I’ve got two boys and with them I sailed through - even told people I’d love to be a surrogate because I had such good pregnancies (aside from high bp last time but physically I felt fine). I’ve had my eye wiped now because this is horrendous and definitely my last baby!

I have been feeling the same and it has been getting increasingly worse; I have not been able to do anything and have felt really low because of it. It's been debilitating. Eventually I decided enough was enough and the doctor prescribed me some cyclizine which has really helped. It has, however, also made me really drowsy and the nausea hasn't gone completely and still comes in (a lot more gentle) waves. I am currently 7+4 and am hoping that the tablets will settle soon.

Roll on 2nd trimester x

Whatthedoodle · 22/08/2020 16:22

@[AUTO]us4i3ke5ntquu a friend recommended me to get those. the last 2 or 3 days I’ve not been as bad, I’ve permanently for travel sickness wristbands on to help with the nausea. It seems to come in waves now, though they are debilitating when they come, it’s not as frequent as it was last week. I’m hoping this is things getting better and not just a fluke. I’m worse of a night especially when laying in bed, I feel like I’m travelling down a motorway, but backwards.
Hope you feel better soon!

I was constantly sick and nauseous, it only stopped at birth for me unfortunately. The only thing that kinda helped was eating constantly. I would have biscuits at my bedside and as soon as I woke I would have at least two before moving from bed. I'd take 4 packed lunches to work each day. If I wasn't sick so much I'd be the size of a house!

Speak with your gp and see what help they can give, eat little and often, try flat fizzy drinks and rest. Good luck and I hope it passes soon for you.

user32723 · 22/08/2020 16:36

Don't will yourself not to be sick. I think naturally a lot of us do that which is just prolonging the unbearable nausea, when actually, if you just run to the toilet and think about being sick then you will be, and you will get some blessed relief even if it's only temporary. Sometimes when my nausea was really bad I'd make myself sick, and then I'd feel well enough to eat and get out of the nausea cycle.

Also try Refreshers sweets, the round ones, they also help with heartburn too.

GlennRheeismyfavourite · 22/08/2020 16:51

It's the worst bit of pregnancy and so so debilitating- mine passed more or less by 14-15 weeks. There wasn't really anything that helped other than I ate literally whatever I wanted and felt like - didn't care what it was, agree with don't get too hungry as that really makes is worse. Plus other half did literally everything - all cooking, cleaning, washing etc as I couldn't cope with anything other than work.

Whatthedoodle · 22/08/2020 17:23

@TheBabyAteMyBrain I’ve been trying little and often but food just doesn’t seem to settle. About 10 minutes after eating (literally anything, whether it’s a biscuit or a meal) I feel terribly nauseous for a while, though not as nauseous as when I’m hungry. I’ve had longer period of no nausea over the last few days which has been nice, I’ve actually managed to get some things done around the house (albeit small things).

@user32723 I have a terrible phobia of vomiting so I don’t think I could let myself. I think my fear is what makes it worse because I get anxious at the thought of being sick which weirdly makes me feel sicker.

@GlennRheeismyfavourite DP has been very supportive in doing the house work but we’re currently packing to move to our new house (with a short pit stop at DMs) the timing couldn’t be worse. I had to fight it today to pack things with the PiLs who don’t know I’m pregnant so now I’m laying in bed utterly exhausted!

I told family and a few work colleagues at 7/8 weeks cause I just couldnt hide the awful feeling and it actually made me feel better some people knowing and not having to put on a brave face. There's no rule that says you can't tell people until 12 weeks.
