Which wipes?

I've ordered some water wipes to use initially but I was just wondering what baby wipes people recommend?

Cheeky wipes definitely seem popular! I think my reservations are around finding the concept a bit gross...but maybe that's because I don't understand how they work? What do you do with them after using them on a pooey nappy change for example? Are you putting them in the washing machine soiled? 🤷🏻‍♀️ If someone could talk me through how they work that would be great!

Cheeky wipes, maybe cotton wool first few days.

Cheeky wipes have a soaking system, where you have a clean box and a mucky box, but actually I ditched this after a while as I found it rank getting the mucky ones in their string bag out from the mucky water. Now we just have a big tub and put the pooey/dirty wipes in there without water, and wash with towels at 60 every few days. I put in machine by tipping them onto a towel and bunging them in. You wipe most of the poo off baby with their nappy, so it’s not actually usually loads of poo on a wipe in practice, just wiping the reside. Of course you get some huge poos tho! The machine copes no prob. Ask any other questions - seems you have plenty of enthusiasts here Smile

Generally how many do you use a day? I've seen they come in packs of 25, just wondering how regularly you need to do a wash? Also do you wash them on their own? Not sure how I'd feel about washing them with other stuff...

I think I have 50, or a bit more, and have different ones for faces, when you get to that stage. Yes I wash them with towels or bed sheets. You can wash them with clothes but not my thing either, but no reason as they are pristine, honestly. I do them with towels etc so I can wash at 60 so feels more hygienic to me, but you could at 40 according to instructions and there is never anything poo- like left if that is your worry, no smells etc!

If it helps to think that poo is water soluble, it’s just broken down food, and when your little one starts eating you will be washing loads of things covered in all sorts of food residue.

Before weaning I washed them in a normal wash at 40. (Breastfed at least) baby poo doesn’t really smell. I only had 25 at that point and did maybe 2 washes a week.

After weaning I washed them at 60 with towels and bought another 25 because only probably did 1 wash a week. DS is 2 now and has been potty trained since 18 months but we still use them for poo on him as they’re so much cleaner than loo roll.

I’m pregnant with DC2 and will be using them again.

Cheeky wipes
My baby is 8 weeks and I’ve been using them from the start.
I use one wipe per change. One side to clean the other to apply coconut oil every few changes.
There isn’t as much poo as you’d think like.
I store them dry and wet them as I use them.
Put dirty ones in a dry bin (with the cloth nappies). They don’t smell.
Wash At 60degrees every few days when I have a big enough nappy load.
If I wasn’t doing cloth nappies I’d wash them in with towels.

Definitely worth trying cheeky wipes. If they don't work out for you the wipes will be invaluable when you get to weaning! My son is nearly 3 and ours are still going strong, and the best thing for cleaning up his messy eating!

RowboatsinDisguise · 01/08/2020 07:42

We wash every other day and have 50 but could definitely get away with less. Milk poo is entirely water soluble and you can just bung it in the wash and it will wash away. Baby’s clothes will inevitably have poo, urine and vomit on them from time to time anyway so you might as well wash with them.

I use boots version of water wipes and find them very good. I found the official Water wipes very wet but good for sticky poos!

Newbiehere123 · 01/08/2020 07:54

I have tried so many supermarket brands and so many other brands but there is one particular baby wipe that I have stuck to is Sainsbury's own brand. It's in a purple packet and it's like 52p per pack. My review is that it is nice and wet but doesn't leak like wet wipes brand, easy to pull out and doesn't disintegrate very easily.

I have two packs of the white towelling cheeky wipes. I wash every couple of days. Alone on a quick wash with bleach, then bung in a normal load on top, with detergent for a full wash. x

Awkwarddough · 01/08/2020 17:01

We love cheeky wipes, but have never used them for poop. You’re still helping the environment by using cheeky wipes for everything but poop. Also breast milk poop can just go in the washer with everything else :)

copperoliver · 01/08/2020 17:26

Water wipes. X

Cheeky wipes are awesome for poo! Use nappy to get most of it
