Which wipes?

I've ordered some water wipes to use initially but I was just wondering what baby wipes people recommend?

I’m doing cheeky wipes and cotton wool. Wipes are full of chemicals and so bad for the planet, my friends baby reacted badly to water wipes too, she switched to cheeky and no issues.

RowboatsinDisguise · 31/07/2020 17:58

Midwife here. In the early days cloth wipes or a flannel and a bit of warm water work far better and mean that your baby is much less likely to get a rash. Cotton wool is fine for skin too but tbh it smears everything around and is a bit of a pain. I don’t rate water wipes. I’m not sure if it’s that they are quite wet and parents don’t dry after but I often see rashes with them.

Aldi!

Glitterandunicorns · 31/07/2020 18:02

Cheeky wipes are amazing! My son is 4 now and ours are still going strong! I just threw them in to wash with whatever else was in the washing machine and they were great.

Brilliant for sticky toddler hands and faces too!

If you want disposable wipes, I like Aldi's own brand Mamia, or Tesco or Asda ones. For branded ones, I preferred Johnson's ones. Do not get Huggies! They disintegrate when they come out of the packet and are useless at cleaning poo.

tessiegirl · 31/07/2020 18:03

We used water wipes for first few weeks. Had no problems with them. Then switched to asda own fragrance free.

RowboatsinDisguise · 31/07/2020 18:03

Can I also add, if using cheeky wipes do not use essential oils undiluted on baby’s skin! It’s a terrible idea and I’m really disappointed that cheeky wipes recommend this. There are loads of other brands of cloth wipes that work just as well, and it’s very easy to make your own. You don’t need fancy wet boxes, you can literally just wet them under a tap as you go, and throw them in a wash basket after use.

Ikea do multi packs of face cloths, I bought 3 of these. (Super cheap) & used them with warm water, sling in the wash, dry really quickly on the radiator in winter or line in summer.
When out & about I took dog poo bags to put soiled cloths in to take home. (Biodegradable ones)
Bought the odd pack of Aldi ones, really cheap and really good too for emergencies.
Water wipes are worse than useless, I got some free in my bounty pack. Never bought any again.

ChillyB · 31/07/2020 18:09

Cheeky wipes are brilliant!

HoneyWheeler · 31/07/2020 18:10

I used one pack of water wipes after he was just born, then moved to the Aldi Mamia sensitive ones - highly rate!

The best by far were cheeky wipes - nothing like them for poonamis!!

cosmo30 · 31/07/2020 18:13

We used pampers mainly. Found the mamia ones too wet and huggies ripped apart before you even got one out the pack properly

uglyface · 31/07/2020 18:15

100% reusable wipes. They are WAY better for dealing with poos in the early days. Don’t even need to be Cheeky ones, just look for terry wipes online.

I use supermarket own when out, but they are far, far inferior to cloths.

Kiki275 · 31/07/2020 18:34

I used water wipes and then switched to Huggies Pure after a year. Switched again to Cheeky Wipes before lockdown and OMG what a game changer! They're brilliant x

00100001 · 31/07/2020 18:38

Reusable wipes all the way! Even if you only use them for wees:)

Merename · 31/07/2020 18:43

What’s your reservation about cheeky wipes op? Honestly they are not just a hippy environmental solution - that is a big factor, but honestly they are faaaaar more effective on poo than any disposable wipe. I take disposables out as I can’t be bothered with wet bags for my cheeky wipes, and always get so fucked off at how comparatively hard it is to clean a poo. And they don’t use undiluted essential oil, to pp that mentioned this, it’s heavily diluted and you can use them without if worried.

If you want to try them op, I’m sure I have a refer a friend 15% link.

BabyMoonPie · 31/07/2020 18:55

Aldi or Mama Bear from Amazon (it's handy having a massive box delivered to the house). Both of these have a handy lid to close the pack and keep them wet and they only dispense 1 wipe at a time rather than them coming out in a clump. Huggies are the worst

GiraffeHat · 31/07/2020 19:00

I second @BabyMoonPie - the Amazon Mama Bear sensitive wipes are great, about £12 for 18 packs and next day delivery with Prime. Much prefer to horrid Huggies Pure!

coffeeaddiction · 31/07/2020 19:00

Cheeky wipes at home and Tesco wipes for when we are out and about

cookiesaurus · 31/07/2020 19:01

We use either pampers or water wipes. I generally find the others are quite dry or rip at the sides (and then go dry). I do sometimes dry my daughter's bottom if it's a bit wet to avoid nappy rash and so far she's tended to avoid getting a rash.

olderthanyouthink · 31/07/2020 19:03

Cheeky wipes (cotton ones)

I used cotton wool and water at first, then had to use a wet wipes while out and they have no grip. Ordered cheeky wipes when I got home!

emelsie · 31/07/2020 20:01

Aldi , blue pack , extra sensitive , they also have the proper close and shut opening on the packet not just peel opening.

strawberrypip · 31/07/2020 20:53

water wipes are my favourite, precisely because they are so wet! 8 month old has never had a rash and I use them in between bath nights for her wash downs. bit pricey but I think they're worth it - look like I'm in the minority though so see how you get on with them x

Awkwarddough · 31/07/2020 20:55

Cheeky wipes are good as they’re reusable. We use a combination of those and wet wipes. I’m currently liking amazons own, and you can order a big box, other than that Aldi do good ones. Tbh one of my only requirements is that they have a plastic lid rather than just a sticker so they don’t dry out :)

Metallicalover · 31/07/2020 20:57

I used to use water wipes, they were good, had no problems.
I've then moved onto cheeky wipes I love them! So easy to use. I do have some Aldi biodegradable wipes and I use these for the initial wipe of a poo x

HarrietM87 · 31/07/2020 21:03

Can not recommend cheeky wipes enough. (Or any reusable cloth option). I initially got them for environmental reasons (baby wipes are terrible for the environment) but then realised that actually they are also SO much better at cleaning your baby’s bottom. I used disposables on holiday or occasionally on days out and literally could not believe how ineffective they were. We tried most brands and they just slide poo around. It’s gross. You’d need to use like 3-5 wipes per poo change, whereas it’s 1 with a cheeky wipe and they actually feel clean afterwards.

It’s really not a faff using them, saves so much money in the long term, you know you’re not putting any chemicals on your baby’s skin and they actually clean. Amazing.

Spottybluepyjamas · 31/07/2020 21:24

Cheeky wipes - so much better for baby's skin, the environment and your pocket!
