I've just been told that I'm being booked in for a csection on Friday due to medical reasons when I'll be 37+2. Can people tell me how your babies where when born around this gestation? I know it's the right thing to do I'm just praying he'll be ready enough to come out 💙

Hello, I had my first little girl at 36+6 induced due to gd and a bleed at 36+5- she was perfectly healthy albeit a little jaundice and spent some time under the blue light! After 37 weeks they’re usually ok once they’re out, just sometimes they’re too comfy and don’t want to leave! Good luck x

Flora20 · 07/07/2020 15:06

My first was born at 37+5, went into labour naturally and had a home birth - ie no concerns at all from the midwives about being early. She barely opened her eyes for a few days but fed well and was perfectly happy and healthy. Full term is 37 weeks, he'll be fine 🙂

daisydalrymple · 07/07/2020 15:11

Dc3 was born 36+4
He was 7lb 2.5oz very healthy, born 945pm, we went home the next morning.
He was very sleepy the first couple of weeks, and a bit jaundiced.
He’s now 5.5yo, has been dairy intolerant since birth and has mild asthma. I don’t know if these are linked.

boymum4 · 07/07/2020 15:13

Thank you all for your replies, I'm glad all your babies where fine and healthy! Reassuring to hear. I'm having two steroid injections to help mature his lungs as well just as a precaution 😊

My baby was born bang on 37 weeks weighing 6lb7, I was induced because my waters went. No issues except jaundice (which didn’t need treatment) for about 5 weeks. Best of luck!!

Dyra · 07/07/2020 15:26

My DD was born at 37+1.

APGAR was perfect from birth, but she was a little jaundiced. Not enough to need light therapy, but she was quite lethargic as a result. A day or two of regimented 3 hourly feeds (to help flush the bilirubin out), and a little bit of sunlight soon put her right.

Breastfeeding has been fine. We had some small trouble with her latch (probably related to the jaundice) to start. But it seems more normal to have some issue than to not, irregardless of gestation.

She's been bang on for most of her milestones. A little slow for the rest, but still within normal ranges. She's been a perfectly happy and healthy baby in all other respects.

Good luck for Friday. 💙

My boy was born at 37+1. Healthy , full term , 3.5kilo, no issues . I was told that he might be a few weeks behind with early milestones like smiling or laughing for the first time. He was ahead in every early milestone actually . He was no different than my sisters baby who was born 2 weeks late.

Thegirlhasnoname · 07/07/2020 15:53

My (now toddler) was born by induction then EMCS at 36+6. She had issues with her blood sugar - but that was due to some medication the hospital put me on - and had to be in a light box for 48 hours due to jaundice but apart from that she’s fine. We did have to stay in hospital for 5 days after she was born though

Good luck!

My third was born by (third) c-section at 37+1. I begged for it to be done early as was absolutely enormous, swollen and uncomfortable. They reluctantly agreed but made me have steroid injections - and not sure it was a coincidence but they seemed to help the back pain too.
Baby #3 was extracted at a whopping 10lbs!

Upalln1ght · 07/07/2020 16:13

I was induced 37 weeks as I had some slight medical complications.
Baby came out perfectly healthy! 7lbs exactly so I dread to think how big they would have been if I'd gone over to 42 weeks before I was induced 😅

Rubyandsaphire · 07/07/2020 16:25

Had twins (induced) at 37 weeks (as this is classed as full term) they were both readmitted at about 10 days with jaundice (not sure if this was due to being 37 weeks could be coincidental). Would have been able to go home same day except I have a condition that means I needed monitoring for 48 hours.
My eldest dc was born at 39+5 and has multiple health and sen needs - he would have had them when ever he was born.

Haz1516 · 07/07/2020 16:43

My DS was induced at 37 weeks and a few days, was 6lb8 and discharged after a couple of days. Had to go under blue lights for jaundice, but don't know whether that was due to bruising with forceps birth too. No real problems, but he did have horrible reflux, but again don't know whether that had anything to do with when he was born.

Soubriquet · 07/07/2020 16:47

37+3 for my ds

He was tiny at 5lb 3oz and at first had trouble being warm but he didn’t need any medical intervention

He did suffer from jaundice too but again no medical intervention necessary

Ducky1900 · 07/07/2020 16:48

I had my baby at 39+5... Took 5 days of induction!
But he had stopped growing at 37 weeks when I went in with reduced movements at 39 weeks.
He was 6lb 14 oz and had no problems health wise.
He's a healthy nearly 2 year old now. X

totallyyesno · 07/07/2020 16:49

My twins were born at 36 weeks and spent a week in hospital with no ongoing health problems.

Ducky1900 · 07/07/2020 16:51

Also had jaundice but very little and didn't need intervention x

Headshoulderskneesandtoes22 · 07/07/2020 16:51

My DS now7 was naturally born at 37 weeks, 7 1/2 pounds. Went home at same day. No problems since.

MuchTooTired · 07/07/2020 16:53

My DTs were born at 36+5 weighing 6lb 6oz and 7lb 3oz due to severe pe. Dd had a bit of trouble breathing and was whisked off to scbu but joined us in the recovery room after the elcs, and we were in for two days afterwards so they could monitor their blood sugars.

No ongoing health issues, they’re now perfectly healthy (and very noisy!) 2.5 year olds.

Good luck!

Noshowlomo · 07/07/2020 16:54

My boy was born at 36 + 4, super healthy and perfect :)

stealthbanana · 07/07/2020 16:58

Both my babies were born at 37+5 (went into labour with both at 37+4 - that’s obviously how long I take to grow a baby!)

Both were born at 8lb3, perfectly healthy. Older one needed some time under a blue light for jaundice (complicated birth ending in emcs). Both have hit milestones early, are perfectly happy and healthy.

Good luck OP!

DustyMaiden · 07/07/2020 17:00

37 is considered full term, shouldn’t cause any problem.

Marpan · 07/07/2020 17:04

Hi! Mine was scheduled for 38+5 because 39 weeks was a Sunday. Then they took him out at 37+5. I was always having a Cesar regardless. There was no great medical Need apart from it was “risky” to let him get bigger and I couldn’t move.
He was 9.11lbs - I will always remember the gasps when they got him out about how big he was!
When he came out about 30minutes later in the little area outside the theatre they thought his breathing was wheezy. He got taken to nicu for 6 hours and had some tests for breathing and bloods. No infection though and he was in with me that night- it’s sometimes just a thing with big babies but you need to check anyway.
Aside from that he was jaundiced but that went away.

ChelseaCat · 07/07/2020 17:06

Mine was 37+4, came early due to sudden onset preeclampsia. He was absolutely fine! He’s still a bit on the small side 6 months later (9th centipede) but he’s perfect and wonderful! Tends to hit his milestones in line with his due date rather than his actual birth date.

Good luck OP - enjoy your little one when he/she arrives

Mumma4262 · 07/07/2020 19:07

I was induced with my eldest at exactly 37 weeks due to severe preeclampsia.

He was born the next day at 37+1 weighting 5lb 12iz with no problems whatsoever.

I didn’t have the steroid injections either. Best of luck to you!

itakephotos · 07/07/2020 19:17

My first was born at 37 +1 at 6Ib 3oz. She did have jaundice and was so sleepy for a good few weeks which didn't help with feeding but once she got it she was fine.
Good luck!
