I've just been told that I'm being booked in for a csection on Friday due to medical reasons when I'll be 37+2. Can people tell me how your babies where when born around this gestation? I know it's the right thing to do I'm just praying he'll be ready enough to come out 💙

Good luck!

I'm being induced next week at 37+2 so these replies are really helpful.

Thank you everyone for your replies! So nice to hear all these positive stories 💐 so I'm feeling I should be prepared for him possibly being slightly jaundice but apart from that he should be fine.

Thanks so much and so excited to meet him 💙

The only thing I would say is watch out for dairy allergies - my induced baby had a dairy allergy we were under consultant care for. I was not surprised when the dietician told me it’s more common in early/induced babies.

I had DD at 36+2. She was fine, she was just jaundiced and sleepy at first. She was slightly behind other babies on milestones, but she did and still does do everything at her own pace and when is right for her. Good luck!

I had my eldest by elective c-section at exactly 37 weeks, absolutely no issues at all. Happy, healthy, good weight.

Pebblexox · 07/07/2020 21:51

Dd was born at 36+4 via caesarean, due to waters breaking at 36+2 and no labour progression.
She had some problems (however we knew about those antenatally) otherwise the only issue was she was jaundice and had to go in bili bed for a couple days. Doctors all said you wouldn't have assumed she was preemie had they not known from notes.

37 weeks after induction for pre eclampsia. She was only 5lb 8. Needed a couple of hours in a hot cot and they checked blood sugars the first 24 hours as her weight was on the low side. She was v v sleepy so I had some tiring times getting her started with feeding and had to constantly wake and rewake her. She had tinge jaundice so never needed treatment

winningattwinning · 07/07/2020 22:00

Had my twins at 34 weeks and had no problems with either of them, a short stay in scbu to learn to breastfeed and regulate temps. No help with breathing needed at all. Good luck OP!

FluffyPJs · 07/07/2020 22:01

Mine was born a bit later, at 38 weeks - elective c-section due to preeclampsia and he was footling breech. He was 9lbs 6oz, perfectly healthy, had a tongue tie, no problems with his hips (can be a concern with breech babies)

hermyweasley · 07/07/2020 22:07

Both of my babies were born at 37 weeks- one on the dot, one 37+2

First baby was 4lb 8oz and perfect and healthy and gorgeous. Jaundice kept us in an extra day.

Second baby was also 4lb 8oz and perfect and healthy and gorgeous. Born on the first day of lockdown.

Good luck you'll be fine!!

hermyweasley · 07/07/2020 22:08

Also at that age and size they're so gorgeously tiny and sleepy and in the foetal position all the time Grin

Dd was born at 36+5 after my waters went. No idea why.
She had 2 days in special care as needed a little help (cpap) with breathing and was so sleepy for the first 3 weeks (until due date) that it was difficult to get her to feed enough to regain weight.
We did breast feed (for 20 months) and she's now a strapping 15 year old.
The first 3 weeks were an anxious time but we've never looked back since.

My twins were born at 35 weeks. Both small, DT1 spent a few days in SCBU and both were jaundiced. They were slightly behind on milestones based on their actual age, but fine on corrected age. At their 2 year check they were all caught up.

No ongoing health issues for either and both strapping 6 footers now.

Good luck!

bluemoon2468 · 07/07/2020 22:12

Obviously not a recent story but my DH was born at 36 1/2 weeks after his mum went into labour spontaneously. He suffered no health/developmental complications immediately after birth or in childhood, and he's a fantastic adult (I may be a little biased!)

bluemoon2468 · 07/07/2020 22:13

Oh I must add he weighed 7lbs 12oz despite being born this early 🙈

Metallicalover · 07/07/2020 22:15

I was induced at 37 weeks due to pregnancy complications, baby born very healthy, fed well, no intervention needed and we went home the next day! Congratulations x

CheeseAndBeans · 07/07/2020 22:15

I was induced with DD2 at exactly 37 weeks due to medical reasons. Gave birth the next day and she was perfect at 7lb 6oz. No problems at all. Born at 6am and I was home by 6pm the same day.

Someone1987 · 07/07/2020 22:16

I was induced at 37 weeks, literally when the clock struck midnight and they were allowed to, as it's full term.
That was due to reduced movements and horrendous anxiety.
He came two days later. He was fine, an assisted birth, but nothing to do with being 37 weeks. He was 7lb2 so a fair weight. He did have to go to NICU, but I had gestational diabetes and he had low blood sugars and a tongue tie so needed help feeding.

thunderthighsohwoe · 07/07/2020 22:19

37+3, induced after waters went. She was tiny but healthy and discharged the same day. Very immature digestive system; had to spend some time on dairy free formula before reintroducing it slowly. Sleep seemed pretty average - first STTN at around 12 months, once she was walking confidently and dropped to one nap per day.

Never crawled due to reflux but hit all other milestones bang on time (walked on the early side actually) and is now a bright, chatty 19 month old who can eat for England and sleeps a solid 11 hours a night.
