Only had one miscarriage but been taking low dose aspirin since positive test and now 16 weeks. No idea if it’s made a difference but so far so good. Good luck!

bettymoo212 · 04/07/2020 00:48

I had three miscarriages and am now 23 pregnant. I took progesterone pessaries and low dose aspirin until 13 weeks with this one. No idea if that is what made the difference, but would definitely do the same next time. My GP wouldn’t prescribe progesterone so I had to go private for it.

bettymoo212 · 04/07/2020 00:49

That should have said I am now 23 weeks pregnant

cbeau · 04/07/2020 08:08

I had 6 miscarriages in a row(consecutively, the first was a missed miscarriage at 10.5 weeks). After the last one I decided to use progesterone cream and low dose aspirin up to 12 weeks when I got my positive test the following month. I am now 36 weeks pregnant and i do not think it's a coincidence after that many in a row. I decided to do it after looking at the PRISM trial and getting absolutely no help even though I was referred to the recurrent miscarriage clinic. If i had the chance to actually be prescribed it i would jump at it.

LASandOtto · 04/07/2020 09:10

Also on aspirin and progesterone after two miscarriages and I am now 30 weeks. Was under a private doctor who prescribed both (and a lot of other meds). Aspirin is known to increase blood flow to placenta, progesterone may support the pregnancy if you're lacking in the hormone and there's some studies done on this like a pp said, Tommy's prism trial. Still all rather a grey area I believe but take what you can as the mental reassurance alone to do be doing something made me feel so much better. Good luck!

MariaDingbat · 04/07/2020 09:12

I had two MC's in 6 months and was close to 40 so got all the tests done and was prescribed progesterone pesseries until 16 weeks and low dose asprin from 12 weeks onwards. I'm currently 17 weeks and fingers crossed all is well so far. As others have said, I don't know if it made a difference but I would definitely take them if I became pregnant again.

futuredreams · 04/07/2020 10:10

I had three back to back miscarriages. I went to see a specialist who put me on progesterone from the minute I got my BFP until 16 weeks. I'm now 22 weeks. She also found I had a vitamin d deficiency and I had a loading dose of those and a regular dose to take daily before pregnancy. I hope this helps a little.

hellymum21 · 05/07/2020 21:38

Thanks for this thread! I've just found out I'm pregnant after 2 miscarriages at 8 weeks. I've started taking 75mg aspirin daily. Is this the same dose you all take?

Sazzy312 · 07/07/2020 08:37

@futuredreams, hey can I ask did you stop at 16 weeks or wean yourself off the pessary, I'm taking the same dose, one consultant gave me enough up to 16 weeks but the other one said I could stop at 14, which I am now but I think I'll carry on for a bit longer, also did you have any cramping when you stopped? Thanks x

MariaDingbat · 07/07/2020 16:56

@futuredreams I went down to one a day from 16 weeks for a week then stopped. No cramps but there were a few days where I was very tired. Had a midwife appointment yesterday at 18 weeks and heard a strong heartbeat so all is well thankfully.

@hellymum21 I'm taking 75mg asprin daily from 12 to 36 weeks.

MrsEG · 07/07/2020 19:24

I was tested for recurrent miscarriage after three in a row - I started on Clexane and a steroid (I was never given progesterone) and at 8 weeks pregnant started on 150mg aspirin, as this is the current recommended dose (do discuss this with your consultant)
I took the aspirin until 36 weeks; my twins are now 5 months old.
Good luck OP x

futuredreams · 07/07/2020 20:52

@sazzy312. I didn't wean off them at all. Just came off as soon as they ran out at 16 ish weeks. I think it was a little over 16. I had no noticeable side affects or feelings of coming off them. Bit strange that you are getting conflicting advice though. I would be questioning that. I doubt there is much difference in taking it to 16 weeks from where you are though. X

Sazzy312 · 08/07/2020 07:53

@futuredreams I think when I got prescribed them a year ago she gave me enough up to 8 weeks then when I found out I was pregnant I rang the hospital and as we were in lockdown she sent out another 8 so I wasn't really sure if it was meant for 16 weeks, when I seen a different consultant she said there is no evidence after 14 weeks that they make any difference, but I rang the midewife at early pregnancy and she said take it all and wean yourself off but that all could be for more mental health than actually physical, I'm in bristol

futuredreams · 08/07/2020 08:31

@Sazzy312 yeh your probably right. My consultant was involved/ interested in the prism trial they did last May or June. www.miscarriageassociation.org.uk/research/the-prism-trial/ (just putting the link there encase you haven't read it)
Where they saw a significant positive reaction to 16 weeks of progesterone so I think that's just the reason for the 16 weeks she gave me. It's the first trial of its kind i think in the U.K. to show that progesterone actually did make a difference with women with recurrent miscarriage. @tinkerbell999 hopefully you have seen this also.
I'm just glad something is being done to look into these as not a lot is known why this happens when all tests come back fine.
I think one big difference between us and the USA (who use progesterone (a lot ) is there, they get their levels tested very soon after they become pregnant. For us? It's just oh you're pregnant. Wait 12 weeks and come see us. (In Northern Ireland that is anyway. I think england see women at 10) but it's still an awful long time to go if your progesterone is dropping and they'll never know that's the cause because they don't test it until it's too late. I hope soon they will introduce this as a standard practice. X

Sazzy312 · 08/07/2020 08:50

@futuredreams thanks for the link, no I hadn't seen it, I did forgot to take it the other night but apart from that I've taken it everyday so I feel like I've done my bit in helping this pregnancy, hopefully when I stop everything will still be fine, I don't think I've had my levels tested this pregnancy, well no1 has mentioned it but I dont belive I had low levels to start with, I think they just gave it to me to see if it would help as I've lost 3, Im glad to be on them though 😀

tinkerbell999 · 13/08/2020 17:45

Thanks ladies I'm

Aww great news @tinkerbell999 good luck

Slk3558 · 08/06/2021 14:33

@tinkerbell999 just wondering how the progesterone went for you? Did you have a successful pregnancy ? Xx

ulstermourne · 04/08/2021 09:52

Does anyone know is it possible to get aspirin and progesterone privately without having to pay £300 for an appointment?

LadyBird2020 · 04/08/2021 10:48

@ulstermourne I went to a private clinic to ask for progesterone. They asked me to have 2 blood tests at £75 each and would then provide the progesterone.
I had one blood test but in the meantime, I ended up getting it on the NHS. So I cannot say if there would be any further costs involved if I had to get them privately.

Cafeaulait27 · 05/08/2021 07:54

I had 2 mcs, then started taking progesterone and aspirin with third pregnancy. It worked! I’m now 30 weeks with a healthy boy. Good luck and sorry for your losses xx

MrsS89K · 05/08/2021 09:10

I’ve had 4 mc and decided to start taking both aspirin and progesterone from ovulation. Just got my BFP and I’m 14dpo so now just hoping I get past another week or 2, and this doesn’t become a chemical 🙈 the positive stories on this post are giving me a bit of hope x

Cafeaulait27 · 05/08/2021 09:27

@ulstermourne I got the progesterone privately at first, I paid £150 for a zoom consultation with Nova fertility and they emailed me the prescription the next day. Worked really well for me because I needed it quickly. The progesterone was very expensive though, it cost me something like £100 just for a few weeks worth (can’t remember exactly) but I’m still really glad I did it. Luckily I then managed to get the rest on the NHS. I just went into boots with the prescription and got it xx
