Hi @Cafeaulait27. Could you please tell me how you got the progesterone?

Cafeaulait27 · 05/08/2021 09:42

@Providence6 please see above ☺️ Someone on here told me they used Nova Fertility so I did too. I had a consultation with a consultant who asked my history and then prescribed the progesterone no problem. I was then emailed the prescription and I just went to the pharmacy to get it. I think it had to be ordered in but only took a few days to arrive. I was desperate so was happy to pay to get it! Good luck xx

Sorry @Cafeaulait27 I missed your previous comment. Thank you for the info. It seems crazy that they essentially charge £150 to write you a prescription if they aren't writing it on the basis of tests done?!
But brilliant that you got it! Thanks for sharing.

ulstermourne · 05/08/2021 20:15

Could you please tell me how you came about getting prescribed with aspirin and progesterone?

Cafeaulait27 · 05/08/2021 21:53

@ulstermourne no worries! well the £150 is a consultation fee for the consultants time, think it was half an hour or an hour. She went into my history with previous miscarriages, pcos etc and as progesterone can’t do any harm but might help, she was happy to prescribe it. Any tests would’ve been £100’s more on top!

Also I just buy aspirin over the counter, I take 150mg per day ☺️ Xx

@MrsS89K would you mind sharing how you got progesterone? And what it cost?

MrsS89K · 06/08/2021 09:39

Hi @ulstermourne after my third miscarriage I was referred to gynaecology and he put a note on my nhs records to state I should be prescribed progesterone and aspirin on my next pregnancy. When I got pregnant again I tried phoning the department and they said they would get back to me about it.
They took too long, so I called my EPU and they wrote out the prescription and I picked it up from my pharmacy. I bought the aspirin over the counter though x

@MrsS89K hey I know this thread is old but just gone through a 4th mc was on progesterone but thinking of using low dose aspirin next time too, how did you get on? Hope things went well for you x

MrsS89K · 06/08/2023 09:13

Hey always happy to reply on an old thread! All went well for me being on progesterone and aspirin, and my baby is now 16 months old! 5th time lucky for me & hope the same for you xx

Wishingonastar90 · 06/08/2023 12:37

Aw congratulations @MrsS89K thats such lovely news and brings me some hope, honestly feels like the loneliest place in the world at the moment, can I ask did you start taking aspirin after ovulation or once you had a BFP? Thanks x

MrsS89K · 06/08/2023 13:42

I know what you mean, stories of hope on here and instagram were the only thing that bought me hope in a very lonely place. If you haven’t already, listen to ‘the worst girl gang ever’ podcast on Spotify too
I took them both from ovulation, and I really think it helped as I didn’t take progesterone in my 4th pregnancy until after I got my positive test x

Wishingonastar90 · 06/08/2023 21:38

Thanks @MrsS89K will check it out, will also try progesterone from after ovulation and aspirin next time, if we are lucky enough to catch again soon 🙏🏻

MrsS89K · 06/08/2023 21:41

Keep me posted how you get on ❤️ good luck xxx

Pormaa · 24/08/2023 12:25

Hi, how did you go about getting a private prescription? I want to try and get a prescription. I've had 3 miscarriages now but not being told anything.

LavenderInTheField · 26/08/2023 13:42

@Pormaa ask your GP to refer you to a hospital recurrent miscarriage clinic or to the Tommy's miscarriage clinic - it is one or the other. Then through the NHS you can get all the tests done both physical and blood tests to rule out the main causes of miscarriage. If you are found to have issues the NHS can prescribe these.

Alternatively, if the NHS route takes too long, can ask for an open private referral which you would need to find a consultant who specialises in early pregnancy/recurrent misc and the initial consultation could be around £150-£200 depending on area.

A private GP is unlikely to prescribe unless you have had the investigations done, but some people do try this route, to get a private prescription. It is a long shot but worth asking.
