Isolating before your c section

So I know a few ppl going in for general surgery and investigation they are having to completely isolate for 2 weeks prior.... Is this the same for sections at all?

EnlightenedOwl · 02/07/2020 21:43

Just say you've done it x

BeHappyAndSmile · 02/07/2020 22:22

@EnlightenedOwl that is shockingly bad advice! In the middle of a bloody pandemic if they're asking you to isolate it's for a reason!

BabyG123 · 02/07/2020 22:27

I believe with all operations you and the household isolate 2 weeks and it only goes ahead if you come back with a clear negative test, at the same time you can't keep a baby in your forever so it guidance, I'd defo ignore the first comment!

Pinktruffle · 02/07/2020 22:28

@EnlightenedOwl and put the rest of the mothers, babies and staff at risk?!
I don't know if you will be asked to isolate but if you are, I would do it and definitely don't be selfish and lie about as PP suggested.

EnlightenedOwl · 02/07/2020 22:41

It's just a tick box exercise. They wont know or care as long as the box is ticked

UrsulaSings · 02/07/2020 22:44

@EnlightenedOwl how bloody selfish! I hope noone in your family gets seriously poorly or dies from covid as it sounds like you dont really give a shit about anyone around you.

UrsulaSings · 02/07/2020 22:45

I'm sure the people in the surgery room care! Are you stupid!?

EnlightenedOwl · 02/07/2020 22:48

It's a virus to which one day we will look back on as the greatest overreaction of all time

LesbianMummies · 02/07/2020 22:51

@EnlightenedOwl Just say you’ve done it! Really? And put the staff, other women and all those vulnerable newborns at risk? Disgusting attitude!

Sharkfinsoup · 02/07/2020 22:53

20% mortality in major surgery with a symptomatic Covid. I would isolate if you have been asked to. I would want my baby to have a mum.

crosser62 · 02/07/2020 22:55

Why overreaction enlightenedowl?
What do you know that we all don’t?

BeHappyAndSmile · 02/07/2020 22:57

@EnlightenedOwl I refuse to believe anyone can be as obnoxious and downright stupid as you are making yourself seem with comments like that. I can only hope you're trolling because you find winding people up and being less than helpful in some way fun? I mean you do you but don't give dangerous advice.

Pinktruffle · 02/07/2020 22:59

The family of the midwife who died from Covid (young, late 20's, no previous health issues) would beg to differ @EnlightenedOwl. Your attitude is absolutely disgusting, you obviously only care about yourself and don't care who you kill or hurt in the process - be they adult or new born baby. You are disgusting.

DisobedientHamster · 02/07/2020 23:01

I would just say I'd done it, too. But I don't go anywhere but out on long walks in rural area.

Avearage · 02/07/2020 23:11

I was just wondering if it has been advised for pregnant wome expecting a section..... Obviously I would follow the guidance, currently shielding due to other issues so it wouldn't make much difference didn't mean to start a thing 😳

If asked to do it then we all owe it to ourselves, the healthcare professionals who will look after us and perform the surgery, and all the others mothers and babies who will be on they’re and the wards the same days as us. It makes me feel sick to think people could ignore such advice wilfully. I am dreading my csection for all the exposure risks it holds but other mothers deliberately ignoring advice was not something that had crossed my mind 😢

Anaesthetist83 · 02/07/2020 23:14

As someone currently actively involved in the planning of surgery during the acute phase of Covid and the recovery phase, I would strongly advise you follow the instructions of your hospital.

Studies have shown a significant mortality for those (including young and healthy) who develop Covid in the Peru operative period.

It is likely elective sections will follow what is deemed a “green pathway” with cohorting of patients who are deemed low risk of Covid away from those who haven’t had the opportunity to shield.

This is for the protection of you, your baby, your family and staff.

I’m immunosuppressed and it is therefore really important that women like myself can be kept safe. Those who lie are risking my life as well as their own. Don’t be so selfish. In the grand scheme of things, it isn’t a big ask. I don’t think (some) of those who are blasé about coronavirus have any idea what those working on the frontline have given up and risk to care for others.

Honesty and cooperation is all that is asked for.

The same people lying are likely the same ones who lie about starvation too - and they also die. I’ve seen it.

EnlightenedOwl · 02/07/2020 23:17

I'm a bit tired of frontline hero stories too

ACatCalledLola · 02/07/2020 23:19

I’m also interested to know the answer @Avearage. Mine won’t be until October so I expect any advice will have changed by then anyway. I asked a midwife friend and she thought not but she did say that it would be sensible to anyway because you can be more vulnerable to infection after birth and are classed as vulnerable during the third trimester. I will be isolating anyway because it would be absolutely awful to bring COVID into a hospital full of vulnerable newborns and mothers and I want to minimise the risk for everyone.

Anaesthetist83 · 02/07/2020 23:19

Well feel free to have a home birth without any medical presence.

DisobedientHamster · 02/07/2020 23:19

In the grand scheme of things, it isn’t a big ask.

It is if you have other kids and are in a flat with no garden, lone parent, don't have a means to get food deliveries.

The same people lying are likely the same ones who lie about starvation too - and they also die. I’ve seen it.

Lie about starvation? Eh? Hmm Confused

Anaesthetist83 · 02/07/2020 23:24

If you are having a planned section, you can organise deliveries in advance. If you die of Covid perioperatively, I think that’ll be more difficult for your family. Most hospitals are even providing voluntary services to help with such things if people are struggling.

Starvation instructions for surgery - the people who lie and say they haven’t eaten often end up on ICU with aspiration pneumonia. Again, people thinking they know best.

DisobedientHamster · 02/07/2020 23:28

Well, I'll never have a planned CS, or any CS now Wink. Anyhow, even with food deliveries, it's not an easy ask for lone parents with more than one child or child with SN stuck in a flat.

Never have I heard of fasting before surgery referred to as starvation Confused.

Pinktruffle · 02/07/2020 23:31

Your name is so ironic @EnlightenedOwl. Why don't you and your bullshit opinions kindly f off?

Anaesthetist83 · 02/07/2020 23:32

Starved for theatre is a commonly used term.

Anyway, I am glad you won’t be on the labour ward near me anytime soon.
