Just wondering how many mums/expectant mums got the whooping cough vaccine when pregnant? And if not, why not? Xx

Since looking into it, I’ve seen a lot of criticisms towards the whooping cough vaccine (which to my surprise does not actually guarantee your child immunity anyway) on the basis that the preservative added to the vaccine pose more of a risk to a newborn baby‘s brain (Mercury and aluminium).

What are you reading? Because the vaccine used for pertussis does not contain mercury, and the aluminium salts used in vaccines are no different to this in breastmilk, formula or many foods

Is this study of 20k women not sufficient for you? Or the fact that 69% of pregnant women do have it and there are still no warnings about its safety?

It never fails to amaze me how insistent people are on this point, even when it’s backed up by medical professionals and payouts, we are told we are wrong, deluded, the symptoms (of what?) appeared at the same time and in any event the child (who is now an adult) is alive so who cares anyway, that’s all any of us want for our unborn children is survival

Perhaps this is because of the number of people who vaguely refer to “vaccine damage” without quantifying, or because the number of such posts is massively disproportionate to the number of alleged adverse reaction cases, and certainly the number of cases where compensation has been awarded.

Also, correlation is not causation. My son who had whooping cough had a massive skills regression at 18 months, almost overnight. If he’d had a vaccine shortly before hand, rather than six months before, it might seem like it was caused by the vaccine, that wouldn’t make it true.

So you do think we are lying?

SinkGirl · 04/07/2020 18:44

I didn’t say that.

bluesapphirestars · 04/07/2020 18:54

But sink, you have said that ‘the number of such posts is vastly disproportionate to the number of alleged adverse reactions’ and even the word ‘alleged’ there is not a neutral one, it suggests a doubt, a cynicism.

That is your right but it is also an unfair one, especially when coupled with the statement about the number of payouts. It is not the case that medical professionals smile sweetly, agree vaccine damage and hand over thousands of pounds, and I don’t believe you don’t know this.

That does not make the parents of these children stupid. Not having a vaccination isn’t a decision to be taken lightly, but when you know there’s a risk factor, that’s something you have to consider. I would never tell anyone else either not to get a vaccination themselves or not to vaccinate their child, and I am aware that reactions of the sort I am talking about are rare. However, while the reactions may be rare, that’s of little comfort when your child is one of the unlucky ones and essentially spends the rest of their life a prisoner in their own body: alive but at what cost?

Just because I may feel a particular vaccine may be risky does not give you, or anybody, the right to accuse me of being stupid. I respect other people’s rights to do the best for themselves and their children and would like the same courtesy extended.

Of course you bloody should

MostlyAmbridgeandcoffee · 04/07/2020 19:27

Yes and why wouldn’t you ?

Regularsizedrudy · 04/07/2020 19:40

No agenda here at all op ey Hmm

I am highly allergic to Penicillin. I have ended up in hospital before after taking it. Therefore Antibiotic damage is a real thing and no one should take them. Ever.

My cousin is allergic to lactose. Dairy damage is a real thing and no one should drink milk or eat cheese ever again.

Vaccines do not cause autism. A few people may have a reaction to vaccines but that does not mean that all vaccines are bad and full of poison.

The chances of your baby being vaccine damaged are vanishingly small, the chances of your baby dying if they get Whooping Cough (an illness which causes adults to cough so hard they break ribs) is significantly higher.

I did a few days ago. Painless, free, why wouldn't you.

Saggydoll · 04/07/2020 20:25

Never had it, and wont this time either as i am pregnant.. we are given the choice

Lolly34h · 04/07/2020 20:41

My little one contracted whooping cough at 5 months old and was hospitalised for 7 days and really poorly with it. I didn't have the whooping cough vaccine as I had bronchitis while pregnant for 11 weeks and couldn't have it while I was so so poorly myself. My advice is to get it. Watching your baby go red then blue from lack of air as they cough is horrific

Can I ask a question of any medics here? The hospital wouldn't give me a whooping cough vaccination when I was pregnant because I'm epileptic. I hadn't known before reading this thread how dangerous whooping cough could be for babies; why, if that's the case, wasn't I allowed to have it? What would have been the consequences for me? Just interested (though would be more inclined to insist on it if I'm ever pregnant again having read this thread!).
