Hey can I join please

Due 6th Feb 2020
Have 3 girls already so this is baby number 4 hoping for a boy this time although sure it will be a girl 😂

Cuwins · 26/06/2020 13:32

Hi everyone, just joined. I’m approx 5 weeks with my first pregnancy aged 34. Rather surprised as I had been off the pill less than 2 months!
Not feeling anything yet except a bit more tired than usual- not sure whether I should be worried I feel normal or just pleased. I have had to tell my manager/staff team at work already as I work in care with special needs children so it obviously limits what I should be doing. Thinking of booking a early private scan as others on here have mentioned for 2 reasons: I suffer from anxiety so hearing a heartbeat will reassure me, also I’m a twin so would like to check the number of babies! However I was reading that pre 10 weeks it has to be an internal scan- anyone had one and what’s it like?

Peach1204 · 26/06/2020 13:52

@Cuwins hi! You're the same as me - first child, 5 weeks gone and 2 months off the pill! I have a scan booked for 8+3. I thought that would be external not internal. I've no idea what internal is like - like a longer smear test maybe?! Xxx

Cuwins · 26/06/2020 13:56

Hi Peach1204. Lovely to have someone similar. Where abouts are you based? I’m in south east

SMT137 · 26/06/2020 14:01

@Stef92 thank for that, fingers crossed it will change, what with pubs and restaurants re-opening soon! But I do understand why hospitals will need to be more stringent.

@cuwins I had a few internal scans in first pregnancy (unfortunately MMC) and they were fine! Didn’t find them uncomfortable at all.

Peach1204 · 26/06/2020 14:29

@Cuwins it is! I'm in the West Midlands 😊 are you thinking of booking a private scan? Xxx

gilljill1980 · 26/06/2020 15:01

Hi All,

Can I join too please. I'm currently 6 weeks pregnant - I miscarried 2 months ago around this time so keeping my fingers crossed this one sticks.
My first child is currently 16 months so this will be pretty much exactly a 2 year age gap!

Cuwins · 26/06/2020 15:30

Yes we are. If I’m not to anxious then we will wait for 10 weeks

Bobbins88 · 26/06/2020 16:13

@girls3maybe4 congratulations fingers crossed for a boy

The internal is like a very slim dildo shaped instrument almost lol they lubricate it and push it inside its not painful in the slightest I had it to diagnose my adenomyosis, lasts less than 5 minutes
Cuwins · 26/06/2020 16:37

Bobbins88 thanks. And there are no risks with it?
Having said I’m not feeling anything yet: unfortunately I have always been a front sleeper and this is already getting uncomfortable due to the pressure on my chest which is sore, going to have to try to learn to sleep on my back.

Sam042017 · 26/06/2020 17:05

I had an early scan at 6 weeks (now nearly 8). My scan was abdominal not internal and they managed to see a heartbeat so I think it depends where you go

Bobbins88 · 26/06/2020 17:12

Omg I feel you so much on this! I also sleep on my front but it's been too sore on my boobs too! , I think it's advised to sleep on your side not your back as when u get bigger later on its not good to sleep on your back as baby can put pressure on your blood vessels, I imagine there are very minor risks as with all scans but the only put it in a few inches it doesn't need to go very deep and it's not big, Google 'transvaginal ultrasound' look at the NHS page it gives good info x
Girls3maybe4 · 26/06/2020 17:50

Shouldn't be internal at that stage I've had one at 6 weeks abdominal xx

Cuwins · 26/06/2020 18:07

@Bobbins88 yep I read that too from 3rd trimester but I think that’s going to be even more difficult so going to go with my back for now.

I got my appointment letters in the post today. Booking in (via phone) on Wed 15th July. Scan on Tues 4th August which feels like AGES away. The letter wasn't very clear whether partners would be allowed stating "if you bring anyone they will not be able to enter the building unless they are absolutely required to support you". Will clarify at booking in, but if DH can't come I think we will look to book a private one. I hate all the waiting!

Sounds like my local hospital and by that they mean unless the person is your carer, not partners unfortunately. I’m waiting for my appointments but like you it’s looking in on the phone then scan.
Muriel84 · 27/06/2020 12:56

I got my booking letter - late August?! I’ll be 15 weeks. 😱 Has anyone else got to wait that long??

Says I can bring someone.

TTCgee · 27/06/2020 13:55

@Muriel84 that does seem ages! Mine is 5th August - I'll be 12 and a half weeks at that point! I'm going to go privately earlier though so I can take my husband. Xx

Thegirlhasnoname · 27/06/2020 14:31

@Muriel84 I’d maybe ring them and check that the August booking app is right as, if I remember, you give consent in your booking appointment for non-invasive checks to be taken during your scan to look for Downs, Edwards and Patau’s Syndrome and I don’t think they can be done after 14 weeks

Muriel84 · 27/06/2020 16:27

@Thegirlhasnoname thanks for the advice. I thought it seemed late. I’ll phone Monday.

IamC · 27/06/2020 19:36

Had a private scan today. 7+4. Saw our little bean, which was exciting.

Also, it turns out I have a 5cm cyst which could explain my round ligament type pains.

More worryingly I have a heart shaped womb (essentially a womb in two halves) just like my mum has. Sonographer said it's nothing to worry about, but I have googled it and it would it me in the high risk category for a prem baby among other risks. 7 months was my mums average gestation period, so I'm thinking of telling her early so I can grill her for more information ahead of my booking appointment.
