Pregnant ladies, are you going out?

I was just wondering if any pregnant ladies are only going out for walks outside or if people are going out to shops?
I am 17 weeks pregnant and want to get some things from Wilkos, but I don't know if I should be going out due to Covid.
Are you going to go to shops when they open mid June?

@mamasiz that's fair enough if you have been advised to shield due to your asthma but the guidance for pregnant women now (with no additional health issues,) is to work from home if possible, take precautions and social distance. There is no requirement for healthy pregnant women to completely shield.

MooChops89 · 30/05/2020 17:13

Yep, 35 weeks now and only finished work last week (NHS midwife but they moved me to office duties). Short walks most days as I have a toddler but PGP so cant get far, was doing the weekly shop until last week and I've only started sending DH as my pelvic pain is getting worse and I can't stand in queues or push a full trolley around any more.
As a PP says, pregnant women don't need to shield, only be more cautious with the same rules as everyone else. I worry about ladies who haven't left the house this whole time, I'd have gone mad I think!

I’m 30 weeks and have been being careful. I go out to shops once a week if required, get home delivery once a week. I just social distance like most others and sanitise my hands as soon as I can. I do plan on doing less the closer to due date I get and after birth, so just walking and no shops. Have been seeing family in garden but will cut this down as time goes on as people are becoming more social (I have a large family on one side, on the other it is small and may see them at a distance)

Natalie6543321 · 30/05/2020 19:57

Thank you ladies, I don't know why but I was under the impression that we shouldn't be going out at all, even to the shops.

33 weeks here and have been going to shops weekly, either as soon as open or an hour before closing so it's quiet. Also been going walks with DS and DP. We've all been very strict with social distancing though which has been easy as both wfh.

Chicken123 · 30/05/2020 20:29

I’m very early on in pregnancy, I love you found out yesterday.
I’m a carer so haven’t stopped working, but since I’ve now found out I’m pregnant, my sister in law seems to think I shouldn’t be working at all and my OH was absolutely terrified of me going to Tesco this afternoon.
Just got to stay safe and be sensible when out I guess x

Raaaa · 30/05/2020 20:33

Yes going to the shops, walks, parks etc.. no issues as yet

Ginfilledcats · 30/05/2020 20:36

The only pregnant people who are considered at more risk than joe public are those over 28 weeks or any gestation with an underlying condition, so you can do as everyone else does inc supermarkets and walks as long as you distance!

ChablisandCrisps · 30/05/2020 20:41

Yes I have been working every day (key worker). I am now 18 weeks. No option to WFH in my profession so lots of pregnant women knocking around the place. Just washing hands frequently and trying (failing) to socially distance from colleagues and clients in very cramped quarters.

GloriaMaximus · 30/05/2020 20:50

I'm 18 weeks and work in Aldi so..yeah. I can't afford to not work so I don't have much choice.

Aria2015 · 30/05/2020 20:53

Yes, been out most days with my 4 year old. The woods, beach etc... haven't been going to the supermarket but I did meet a friend recently for a distanced catch up and seen my sister from a distance too. Not many cases at all where I live so I feel pretty safe. I might pop to Next and the post office in the coming weeks. I hate wearing a mask because I feel like I can't breathe and don't wear one at the beach etc... but would do if I went to a shop (out of respect for the shop workers) so if I do go shopping, I'll be waiting for a cooler day so I hopefully don't feel so claustrophobic in my mask!

AliasGrape · 30/05/2020 20:56

Yes. I’m 31 weeks and walk the dog daily and been to the shops when needed. I had a delivery slot but to be honest got sick of the crap substitutions, short dates and crappy produce that was being sent, so I just stick to the local shops now and go at really quiet times. I make sure to keep distance and take hand sanitiser with me, don’t touch my face and wash my hands as soon as I get in. I’ve had to go to the gp, midwife and hospital, had to go to pharmacy and vets etc. Also had to take my car to mechanic.

DH gets a bit protective and stresses about but he’s having to go to work still and also been providing some care for his parents and grandmother which had entailed dealing with paramedics and district nurses. So it’s impossible to seal ourselves off completely and I just find it’s better for my mental health to not let myself be scared to do something like going into the bakery or local coop - just making sure I’m aware of social distancing but otherwise trying to carry on as normally as possible.

That said I’m desperate for a comfy garden chair to plonk in the shade in the garden, and also to go to the big tesco to get some newborn bits (struggling to find anything online) and maybe see if they’ve got any cheap bits for me in the sale - I really need some bigger size knickers and maybe strappy cool nighties. Every day I have half a plan to go and every day I decide against it in the end!

TiptopJ · 30/05/2020 21:03

I'm 33 weeks. I spent the initial 5 or 6 weeks of lockdown barely leaving the house- I went for a short walk once or twice a week. Over the last month I've increased to visiting a few local shops that are fairly quiet and went to a garden centre the other day. I'm considering reducing the amount I go out again over the next few weeks though as towns are getting busier again so I'm probably going to play it safe and see if the amount of infections go up locally.

mamasiz · 30/05/2020 21:13

@sel2223 I have an underlying health condition and I’m in the third trimester. If I choose to shield it doesn’t affect anyone but me, so it’s not really up for anyone to disagree with my actions. Personally, I feel I would be putting myself, unborn baby and son at risk by going out and about. I don’t mind what anyone else does with their body during pregnancy or otherwise. It’s up to them. No judgement - it just feels safer for me to do this.

Ethellsmum · 30/05/2020 22:33

Yep. I’m following all the guidance carefully - working from home, not using public transport, socially distancing etc.
If I go to the shops I go at a quiet time and preferably when there is no queue. Main food shop is done online so it’s only quick too up shops.
I’m 33 weeks nearly.

sel2223 · 30/05/2020 22:46

@mamasiz woah there.... i didn't disagree with you shielding at all, no one on here has. You have other health issues so have to be extra careful. I completely agree.

I simply said anyone else (i.e. the OP!) without those other issues having a 'normal' pregnancy has not been advised to shield.

Chill out.

EBM20 · 30/05/2020 23:03

I'm 14 weeks and have been working in a shop throughout. My midwife said it's fine to carry on working as long as you are socially distancing. The whole of lockdown has been fine with socially distancing but my shift yestoday, more and more people are coming out now and not socially distancing I'm debating to message work and tell them to keep me behind the tills unless the isle is blocked off, I had a teenager reach past me to get milk from the shelf, didn't even ask! More and more children are coming in too now!

Alychloe · 30/05/2020 23:40

I’m 20 weeks and have only left my house to walk my dog. My work have me on pandemic sick pay, husband does the shopping and all my family live in Wales (I’m in England) so haven’t seen a soul! For the first time today I decided to go to the garden centre, won’t be doing that again! My anxiety was through the roof with people not following social distancing and ignoring the one way system. Back to my quarantine house I shall go and stay for now haha.

mamasiz · 31/05/2020 03:57

@sel2223 I’m as chilled as a person can be during a pandemic with a baby on the way, elderly parents and an unwell child.

sel2223 · 31/05/2020 05:31

@mamasiz pleased to hear it. Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly 😊

Prettylittlelady · 31/05/2020 07:05

Yes I’m currently 20+4, I was around 9 weeks when the lockdown happen and I’ve been going for walks and to the supermarket, into work when needed. Have met my mum for walks in the last couple of weeks. I’m being careful but staying inside - especially as I live in a flat would affect my mental health.

Quail15 · 31/05/2020 07:35

Yes, haven't stopped working - A&E based, working with mainly covid positive patients.
Being pregnant makes no difference in my role until after 28 weeks.

NatalieH2220 · 31/05/2020 08:08

I'm going out for exercise 3/4 times a week but that's all. I'm 14 weeks and haven't been to a shop since lockdown was announced. Luckily I can work from home and have been looking after our 3yo whilst nursery is closed. My DH has done all food shopping on his way to/from work. It works for us and I don't plan to go to a shop anytime soon.

Pralinehalo · 31/05/2020 10:42

I'm 25+4 (FTM) with steroid controlled asthma so I've been for a couple of walks but mostly been staying indoors/in my garden. Biggest issue with going out has been other people not keeping their distance from me which has made me feel really uncomfortable. Haven't been to shops at all, hubby goes to the local corner shop (with mask etc) when needed but we've been fortunate enough to get slots online and our friends have helped where needed (family don't live nearby). Have also been for a few drives and had a few socially distanced cuppas.

1990shopefulftm · 31/05/2020 10:51

I m 18 weeks and haven't been to the shops, fortunately DH can go for me.
I live in an area with nice walks so I m just going out for a walk every couple of days.

I m asthmatic and the last time I got a bad viral infection I broke a rib from the coughing so I probably won't be going to the shops for a long time yet.
