In bits...what’s going on :(

So I have taken 7 tests. All positives. 4 of them being clear blue digital. Doctors told me to come in with a first morning wee so they could confirm. Just had a call back and they said it’s negative. As well as being in bits, my head is totally all over the place Sad

Don't be in bits!

Hpt's have different sensitivity - so you are very early at the moment, and you will only get a positive with concentrated urine (morning sample) and a high sensitivity test. You can get a positive with this combination before your period.

Doctor's tests may not be as sensitive, and may not test positive until later than this. Doctors generally aren't "interested" until you are at least 6-7 weeks as that get's past the early miscarriages.

Sophj19 · 28/05/2020 15:38

@Rainbow1808 don’t panic! Exactly the same thing happened to me in my GPS yesterday. She did the test said it was negative and then when she looked 5 mins later it was positive. They took bloods too and my HCG levels were 88. So definitely pregnant. Ask your GP for bloods x

Sophj19 · 28/05/2020 15:40

I should add the test she used was HCG at 50 so not sensitive at all Also I’m just 4 weeks x

sarahc336 · 28/05/2020 15:43

I thought these days when you got a positive at home you just booked in with the midwife around 8 weeks and you didn't even visit the gp? Personally I'd ignore Th e test the dr did your tests are defo positive x

AsSurprisedAsYouAre · 28/05/2020 15:44

@NiceTwin why not take multiple tests?! I did about a dozen over the first two weeks just because they were in the house and I couldn't believe I was finally pregnant / liked watching the lines get darker. I think lots of us do that even without something like OPs GP result to make us doubt ourselves!

Rainbow1808 · 28/05/2020 15:47

@NiceTwin I don’t think that really matters right now..not to me anyway

In my experience, urine tests at the doctors arent actually that accurate! I was asked to do a test the morning of my gallbladder removal operation (they wouldn't have done the operation if I was pregnant)...two were negative. A week later and I did a home test and it was positive. My little boy is one.

munchbunch12 · 28/05/2020 16:02

I'm the other way round compared to many PP. With both of my DCs I had negative tests at home (both first wees of the day too) but went to the Dr's as I thought I was pregnant. On both occasions they confirmed I was, so I'd go back to the Dr for another test if I was in your situation.

NiceTwin · 28/05/2020 16:18

I asked because there are many threads on here where women test, test and test again.
I just wondered why, I can't think of any good reason, hence the question.

diddl · 28/05/2020 16:33

Does the Gp need to confirm to refer to midwife?

Strange!

More than 20yrs ago when I asked Gp for a pregnancy test they said that I should do my own as it was quicker than them sending off to test (& presumably cheaper!)

cosmo30 · 28/05/2020 16:37

I had to call gp when pregnant to get referred. Didn't know you could refer yourself? But anyway they also made me do a test at the surgery to confirm.
Ask for a blood test op, that many positive tests can't be false positives!

Margo34 · 28/05/2020 16:37

I had a similar experience and truly hope your outcome is different from mine! I complained to my GP surgery for appalling care, too.

I had all the positive HPTs (incl 3w+ on CB digi) and called the GP after I started bleeding at what I believed to be 6 weeks (as the MWs won't have anything to do with you, even to book a booking appt, before 8w where I live). GP did their own preg test that came back negative and wrote me off then and there, literally laughed me out the building, saying they couldn't guarantee the tests I did were accurate as they may have been out of date or tampered with (they were absolutely not) and that there was no way on earth I could be pregnant (despite TTC) so there was no point bothering with a blood test. I was distraught and confused as had tested positive that same morning at home, and continued to test positive after it too. Sadly, the bleeding got worse and a couple of weeks later 111 suggested a trip to A&E where they confirmed I had MC. I really hope your experience isn't as belittling or humiliating as my GP made me feel then, and I'm so sorry you're going through such a stressful and unnerving time!

My fingers are crossed for you!

mummydoris2006 · 28/05/2020 16:52

I worked for a doctors surgery for 10 years and I was responsible for going to poundland or home bargains to purchase the pregnancy tests. Often patients would come in and ask to be tested as they thought the tests we provided were superior when in reality they were the cheapest available. Obviously this isn't the case with tests that require a blood sample so I think you're right to ask for one of those instead. Good Luck OP

Because women are scared/excited/shocked/in disbelief/in need of reassurance/looking to see line progression......I can think of loads of reasons.

Aria2015 · 28/05/2020 18:36

Try not to worry. My doctor doesn't test if you've had a positive on a digital because he says they're just as good, if not better than their tests. You've had a positive digital so that's good - try and stay positive.

My GP test came back negative. He's 14.5 and almost 6' now!

Rainbow1808 · 29/05/2020 09:49

Just thought I’d update you all, I had a blood test and I am pregnant but I have to go back on Monday for another to see if my levels have risen. Feeling much better. I’ve got everything crossed

Sophj19 · 29/05/2020 11:57

@Rainbow1808 that’s brilliant news congratulations 🥳 x

Margo34 · 29/05/2020 12:00

Congratulations! 🤞for Monday too!

TheVanguardSix · 29/05/2020 12:05

Oh that's such good news, OP!
Those strip tests at the GP are terrible. They're so cheap.
My negative test from the GP is now 18 years old... and still in bed, snoring away at midday! Grin

Darkstar4855 · 29/05/2020 12:10

For all the people saying they don’t need to confirm pregnancy at the surgery, there are some GP surgeries that still do. I had to have a GP appointment and a positive test with them before I could have an appointment to see the midwive!

Rainbow1808 · 30/05/2020 13:47

Just thought I’d give an update...so I’ve woke up this morning bleeding very heavySad Phoned EPAU and told them I have an appointment on Monday for another blood test to check my levels and they told me to still go. I’m so devastatedSad
