I was just wondering how many of you are actually going out for your hours daily exercise. I'm 25 weeks pregnant and have mainly been in for the past 7 weeks, we have a garden so on nice days we've been using that but I've only occasionally been going out for a walk (maybe once or twice a week and definitely not every week) and then once a week I take my husband food shopping as he doesn't drive and I sit in the car. What I'm worried about is the risk as obviously it's more than likely you are going to meet people on the way and also as I'm nearing my third trimester is it advised then not to leave the house at all?

I’ve been trying to walk for around an hour every day, sometimes I’m just too fatigued so it’s probably more 5 out of 7 days a week. I find it a struggle sometimes but I live in Brighton surrounded by the sea and parks so I try and boost myself with thinking about that. I probably wouldn’t do as much if I didn’t have a garden!
I’m 28 weeks if that’s relevant 😊 and have no intention of stopping as I would get very depressed if I never left the house. I just don’t go into shops or make contact with people and make sure I wash my hands as soon as I get home.

I m 15 weeks and go out for a walk 3 times a week, I get bad hip pains when I went 5 days without a walk but 3 times seems to help.

Liverbird77 · 06/05/2020 12:22

I go to the park right by our house. It is easy to keep social distance there. I would go crazy otherwise. I have to let my 16 month old run around and let off steam!

Bubblesbubblesmybubbles · 06/05/2020 12:24

Literally about to pop and doing a walk a day, only way the toddler naps and I stick to the roads where I can see people coming and avoid.....midwife knows I'm doing it and hasn't said i shouldn't

Whiffle77 · 06/05/2020 12:35

I go out every single day, I would lose the plot if I didnt! Plus it's good to try and keep a bit healthier. It's easy to maintain distance from people.

Natalie654321 · 06/05/2020 12:42

I am 14 weeks pregnant and go out every day.
Some days I take my 10 month daughter out in her pram, sometimes I do a 5k run.
I would go crazy if I didn't go outside. I always cross the road if someone is on the same side as me so never actually go near anyone.

CazzaCat · 06/05/2020 12:42

@Bellsx I can understand your concern but it’s not advised not to leave the house at all in your third trimester unless you have a serious heart condition?

If you want to you can still do your excersiee if you feel able. Maybe you could try early morning walks? I go walking around 7am and just cross the road to avoid the odd person I see.

thosethreewords · 06/05/2020 12:47

I'm 34 weeks and walking for at least an hour every day. I did 5 miles yesterday. It's good for you and baby if you can keep fit :)
I avoid everyone (and they avoid me!) so I feel like it's safe. I've got a garden that I sit out in or potter around in for the parts of the day I'm not working.
I wouldn't go to a supermarket so the only other time I'm going out is to antenatal appointments.
It's personal choice but you don't need to shield and stay indoors for your third trimester unless you have a heart condition.

KnobwithaK · 06/05/2020 12:50

I haven't seen any advice about not leaving the house in the 3rd trimester.

I'm going for 2 short walks a day, sometimes it only adds up to 20 mins but sometimes I'll go further for one of them and it adds to about an hour. Also doing some gardening but don't have the energy for both on the same day! I'm 28 weeks.

towerse · 06/05/2020 12:55

I’m 24 weeks and cycling to and from work 4 days a week (20mins each way) and walking for about an hour on my days off.

mable88 · 06/05/2020 12:56

I'm trying to go out for a walk every day - I missed a few days last week as the weather was rubbish but I found that, for me, it had a real impact upon my mood and I felt thoroughly miserable by the weekend. I am sure that it was the lack of getting out of the house that did this. Luckily it's lovely and sunny where I live this week so really enjoying getting out, we're very blessed to live in the countryside so barely ever see anyone when we are out and there's plenty of room to stay away if we do see anyone. I'm also trying to do a bit of pregnancy yoga from youtube videos as I am finding that my back is really suffering, mainly from having to sit at the dining table to do work - my chair at work is sooo much more comfortable!!

mable88 · 06/05/2020 12:57

Oops, forgot to say I am 25 weeks! And have no intention of stopping in three weeks time when I get to the third trimester, unless my body gives up on me or my midwife advises otherwise Smile

Bellsx · 06/05/2020 12:58

Thank you ladies that's definitely put my mind at ease and I will try and get out a bit more as like you said exercise is good for me and the baby plus a change of scenery always makes you feel better especially when the sun is shining.

I've been taking DS out for an hour most days, we just try to avoid other people as much as possible and it's been fine.

That said, most people tend to make way for the (huge) 25 week pregnant lady and the excitable 3 year old on a bike coming towards them.

If anything, I'm starting to find an hour a day is getting a bit too much for me but I'll keep it up during lockdown or DS will go nuts - and then drive me the sane way!

Bienentrinkwasser · 06/05/2020 13:04

I’m 14 weeks. I go for a walk on all my days off and do a run of 5 or 6km (building back up to my usual longer runs as I’ve had really bad nausea and vomiting which is slowly improving) 3 or 4 times per week. The days I’m at work I’m just working (3 days per week) as I’m pretty active at work and the sickness medication does wipe me out a bit. I might start doing a turbo (bike trainer) or some strength training on my work days soon though. I’d go stir crazy if I wasn’t doing something every day!

Dollywilde · 06/05/2020 13:06

I’m doing an hour’s yoga twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays (as I was pre lockdown) and then generally getting one short (30-45 mins on a Tuesday) and one long (1h - 1.5hr on a Sunday) walk a week. Sounds daft but having a routine is helping!

Dollywilde · 06/05/2020 13:07

Oh, I’m 26 weeks. Definitely agree it’s good to get out and about within reason.

WutheringShites86 · 06/05/2020 17:33

I'm aiming to get out for a walk most days time allowing as I'm working from home full time. Sometimes only 45 mins or so but often longer walks for 1.5 or 2 hours, my step counter says I'm maintaining a similar level of activity as before lockdown so I'm happy with that. I'm 24 +5. Is anyone else finding the only issue with long walks is needing to find somewhere to have a sneaky wee? Blush luckily I can go on pretty rural walks where I live but I'm constantly on the lookout for somewhere to squat! It most be the motion of the walking, I'm bursting before I get to the hour mark.

bluebell94 · 06/05/2020 17:50

Absolutely, a dog walk every day. I'd go crazy if I didn't get out!

Yaty · 06/05/2020 18:01

I'm trying to keep my normal routine which is walking dogs for an hour a day. I've started having the odd day off but that's because I'm finding my legs are getting tired out much quicker than normal. I'm 24 weeks, going to try and keep this up till the end as it's good for me and the baby. I'd go mad if I stayed in 24/7.

Nelbert19 · 06/05/2020 18:58

I’m 28 weeks and walk 3-6 miles per day depending on how much my hips are aching! I find it helps my back pain but if I overdo it then my (currently very mild) PGP is worse, so just finding a balance. It’s also very good for my mood, weight control and general well-being.

I can’t do yoga or Pilates anymore because weirdly it makes my PGP much worse, but my back and hips really feel like they need a good stretch!

As a PP mentioned, my main limiting factor now is my bladder! Can’t pop into pubs or cafes while out and about to borrow their loo so am either doing laps of the park where I can zip off home quicker if nature calls, or a nice long rural route where I can hide in the trees!

Sheera1 · 06/05/2020 21:37

12 weeks tomorrow and going for an hour walk most days and I am pretty unfit. We are lucky to have cou tayside near so take my sons and dog for a walk where we see no-one. If I am not feeling ok I just skip it and sit in the garden and listen to my body.

jdy123 · 06/05/2020 22:06

What is the actual guidance once you're in 3rd trimester ? I'm 28 weeks on Saturday and wasn't sure what the actual advice is ?
I'm still going for a walk most days, sometimes a long one for 2 hours if I can manage Smile

Bubblesbubblesmybubbles · 07/05/2020 18:41

@jdy123 double check with your midwife but ours said we are vulnerable not shielding so walks are fine

jdy123 · 07/05/2020 18:44

@Bubblesbubblesmybubbles thanks I'm there Tuesday so I can ask her then!
