Ladies, DH and I have spent the last few weekends looking extensively at buggies and of all the ones we've seen and "tested" we can't help liking the bugaboo most, it seems to tick so many more of our boxes than the others but we are furious with ourselves, why do we have to like the most expensive one?! I'd really appreciate anyone's thoughts on the bugaboo, good or bad. Thanks!

Also I was so dissapointed with the Quinny Buzz because I just couldn't get the security clip down when it was folded, I was almost in tears, I am quite strong and couldn't believe I couldn't do it

I've got a Chameleon and I love it. Things I like are the very large shopping basket, the big wheels that allow you to bump up and down steps (essential in London IMO), the extending handle which means you're not hunched over, the fact that it's roomy, comfy and will go flat so DS at 18m will still sleep in it when we're out and about. I like the fact you can change position so that your child can look at you or look at the world, and you can have the different wheels at the font.
The downside of course is that it folds into two pieces and is bulky when it does. We bought a Zapp for the car boot so we didn't have to faff with the Bugaboo when out in the car, but it's still the pram I take on hols and, while it is a pain taking it apart to put through the scanner, and at the plane steps, it has allowed us to go out in the evenings when away as DS can sleep when he gets tired.

Knickerelasticjones ? congratulations on the new arrival!

Sounds good to me Sunshinemummy

Just a quick one to say we had the same problem and then found out that there is a new model out this month and our local independent retailer was selling their old demonstration model for a significant discount - and of course as it is a small shop although it has been folded etc by lots of people it isn't damaged in any way (and is a bit easier to fold from having been used a bit ).

Perhaps there might be someone near you doing the same thing if you are happy to have the old type?

lisamariegrant · 18/09/2007 15:42

GO FOR THE BUGABOO - YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED! I bought a Silvercross Linear, a Mamas and Papas Pulse and something else before finally buying the Chameleon - it is an expensive buy but would have been far cheaper to buy the right pram first time round rather than ending up buying 3

SazzaK · 18/09/2007 17:40

I adore my Bugaboo but I am a London mummy and a real walker. I have a maclaren techno XT for the couple of occasions I use the car and it lives in the boot - also handy for airports etc. I'd go for the bugaboo but get yourself a second stroller when bubs is 4-5 months or so. Bugaboo is wonderful for newborn and great posture for an older child in the seat.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 18/09/2007 17:45

its not JL that offers 2years on bugaboo warrenty, bugaboo do this themselves. so no matter where you buy it, uif you buy it new then you get two years.

MrsMcSpooky · 15/10/2007 16:23

Meant to come and tell you all that we ordered the bugaboo - thank you all for all your help. We got the new model and as we bought a footcosy and the car seat adaptors, we got a maxi cosi car seat too so we're pleased with that. Takes 8 weeks to order at the mo though!

spugs · 15/10/2007 16:32

I keep looking at these, and quite fancy a gecko as its the same(ish) price as the M&P i like but htere supposed to be quite light.
i did like the buzz but found the seat very narrow when i tried it with dd2.
can anyone tell me would a gecko be ok with my height - 5ft 9? and what are the main differences between the gecko and cameleon?
also does anyone know of any good ebay sellers/shops who have them cheap and are trust worthy?
thanks

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 15/10/2007 16:34

Gecko is a lot smaller seat wise. handle does adjust wither. i loved the gecko over the cam though.

try john lewis, they usually have both types on the shop floor.

MrsMcSpooky · 15/10/2007 16:41

Hey Spugs let?s test my memory all my buggy knowledge has gone since I bought ours! The Gecko is a really nice buggy! It is light, comes in fab colours and can do lots of things. It is basically a stripped down version of the chameleon to make it lighter and easier. I?ve seen lots of Dad?s pushing them so don?t think the lack of extendable handle is a big issue for many (that?s one difference with the chameleon). I think the carry cot is bigger with the chameleon and there is no foam around the frame on the Gecko. There is also a handle across the carry cot on the chameleon but not on the Gecko. The Gecko seat is adjustable from underneath whereas the chameleon is adjustable from the side.. There is a 2 year guarantee on the bugaboo whilst you only get 6 months with M&P ? my sis had a bad experience with a Pilko, it fell apart after 8 months and they refused to do anything about it. I liked the look of the Buzz but couldn?t use the safety catch and without it they can open on their own in your boot so that was out for us.

spugs · 15/10/2007 17:20

ooo been looking at the gecko on line and i like it, doesnt seem to different to the cam. and i could justify the price at a stretch and its so light onlyy 8 kg all the 3 in 1s ive been looking at are a tonne weight. only problem is ive heard there considered a bit chavvy but as ive only seen about 2 up here i dont think thats the case am going to go and play in mothercare at the weekend

coolkat · 15/10/2007 18:04

What about britax vigour, saw a neighbour with one, look like Bugaboo and I bet they are cheaper. Have the same seat, carry cot and car set that goes on frame. Her baby is only 5 months though and she's already bought a maclaren. Has any one got one of these? You can see them on kiddicare.com.

e14mum · 15/10/2007 18:15

We just bought a black gecko as I'm a bit of a minimalist and colour combinations or other bits weren't impt to me. Seat is only 6cm shorter than the cam, which didn't seem a lot to me. Both of us are tallish and it feels fine to push. V. pleased so far, but have to see what it's like when baby arrives!

BumblebeeQueen · 15/10/2007 18:30

Just wanted to say something about this comment by lubyluby:

"as much as i love my bugaboo cameleon, if you are goign to be all terrain walking then its probably not the right buggy!

i know the blurb says it can go on allterrains but it really isn't that easy. as it has 4 wheels the wider front point makes it harder to push along rougher groudn and even soemthing as simple as gravel."

You need to flip the handles over so the big wheels are on front, then you can go across any terrain at all (you can also turn the seat so you still have the choice of baby facing you or facing out, regardless of which wheels are at the front).
I have the chameleon and take my ds out in it every day to walk the dog across fields, gravel, mud, stones etc etc and it has never failed me once! It takes a millisecond to flip the handle over and you're off!

Plus, it's fab for in town when you have the little wheels facing forwards.

As far as I'm concerned, I can really, really recommend it. The ONLY negative thing I can think of about it is that it does take up a bit more space in the boot of the car. But apart from that, big thumbs up from me and ds!

spugs · 15/10/2007 18:56

does the gecko handle flip? and is it as light as it sounds? also have read on some reviews that its not really big enough (the seat) for when there older?

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 15/10/2007 20:12

the seat is very small. dd3 outgrew it a few months ago.

handle does flip.

you an also get snow wheels for the bugaboo now.

chunkypudding · 18/10/2007 13:35

Just wondered if anyone has gone down the second hand route with this?

Both me and dp are (fairly randomly, but influenced by friends raving) quite smitten with bugaboo, prob cameleon, have looked online at prices and have also been looking on ebay - can't get my head around whether I'd be happy to save some cash and get a 2nd hand bugaboo or if it makes more sense to splash out on a brand new one.

Can't really wait for jan sales as due 3rd jan. Anyone's thoughts on whether they would/wouldn't get 2nd hand and why would maybe help my scrambled little brain.

And everyone definitely prefers bugaboo to quinny buzz, right??

AND while I'm at it I may as well ask which sling everyone thinks is best as if I don't end up having to have c section then I think I'd use one fairly often.

I'm 29 weeks today and have still done NOTHING

spugs · 18/10/2007 13:46

just been checking out the bugaboos and decided to go for the cameleon, also thinking second hand or new of ebay. they have a new one on there at the min for £475 + £20 P&P which is a good £100 cheaper then in mothercare. not sure about guarentee though and would rather have that then pay a bit less if you see what i mean and thats putting me off 2nd hand.

MrsMcSpooky · 18/10/2007 14:30

Spugs - if its new you should get a guarantee for 2 years anyway as the guarantee comes from Bugaboo regardless of who you buy it from beware of the fact that people will be trying to flog the older version too as the new cameleon plus has just come out

ScottishMummy · 18/10/2007 18:27

bugaboo cameleon does indeed have a completeley new specification now. some links FYI

i think mothercare has the newest ones as there doing the fabric hoods as well as the fleece. do you reckon the older versions will go on sale?

morningglory · 18/10/2007 18:47

I love my bugaboo and used it continuously for 3 years with DS1. Great city pram, and comfy for ds. I'm getting new parts for DS2, and recycling it.

There is a problem of portability, and I too have a Buzz for the car boot.

If one is looking for a one pram/pushchair option (and if I was buying a new one), I'd probably be really keen on either the new Bugaboo Bee or the Joolz Bloom. Actually, I prefer the look of the Joolz Bloom, so maybe I'd get that one.

ScottishMummy · 18/10/2007 18:51

joolz bloom is the same company as make first wheels city elite

beeper · 18/10/2007 20:15

lol its your first child then.

Never ever will I spend over £200 on a pram again. Everyone without fail ends up with thier six month old in a maclaren umberella buggy and rues the day they every parted with the cash for the flash pram.

1st timers beware.
