the hospital i was in was BOILING, maybe take a thin cotton one just so you don't have to wander around in your nightie.

tammybear · 08/10/2004 15:51

magazines, a watch and food. i had dd in evening so exp and mum had to leave when i was put in the ward after had dd. i couldnt sleep and was so bored, hungry and kept trying to guess what time it was. i was way off when i guessed it was 5am and the nurse told me it was only 1:10am lol

Some of those wooden massage tool things are nice. I think the Body Shop carries them. I had a terrible muscle spasm in my back and dh spent loads of time rubbing it for me.

A good energy recipe:
GORP (gobs of raisins and peanuts)
M&M's
peanuts
raisins

A handful of this stuff can really recharge your batteries.

Oh and music. I took a small CD player and a variety of music. I found Anonymous 4 to be wonderfully calming when things took a bad turn.

Flum · 08/10/2004 16:07

heat magazine

Distracted · 08/10/2004 16:08

Think you might want a dressing gown depending on what kind of nightie/pjs you have. I'm not taking in my nice pjs that I wear at home (don't want to ruin them) so have some old nighties like long t shirts that my mum gave me - they're a bit short, so need a dressing gown, just thin summer one tho'.

PotPourri · 08/10/2004 16:46

Pen & paper, book for early stages in case you get bored. Tissues and maybe water spray for labour to cool you down.

Good thread, I was starting to think about my bag too. Looks like we will be needing a huge suitcase!!

JiminyCricket · 08/10/2004 16:48

Second vote for arnica, although I took the tablets last time and made a BIG difference as, despite second degree tear and lots of stiches wasn't too sore as had no bruising at all!

Can also take Bach rescue remedy during labour.

Can also second the vote for a water spray. Last time a friend gave me hers as she hadn't used it and it wasn't something I would have thought to take myself. However, it was fantastic for dh to spray on my face during labour when sweating buckets. Have bought an Evian one again for my second labour (being induced tomorrow), although they are ridiculously expensive and you could probably use a plant spray instead

pesme · 08/10/2004 17:12

energy sweeties, can't rememeber what they are called but they were a life saver.

MTS · 08/10/2004 17:13
