No partner allowed at scan

So I will be having my 12 week scan this Monday.
I am scared and excited and pretty sad that my partner won't be allowed to join me due to covid.

Does anyone know if it would be allowed to video call him during the whole appointment so he can see what I see? Anyone else who's done this?

No there's signs everywhere at my hospital saying you can't, pictures are now free though.

biscuit13 · 22/04/2020 09:12

I dont have an answer as my 12 week scan will be on tuesday but I'm interested with in what responses you get. I feel awful that my husband is going to miss all of this as it's our first baby

NicNac100 · 22/04/2020 09:18

I doubt you'll be allowed to video at an NHS scan but it would all depend on the Trust - however the last scan I went to 2 weeks ago I had to go alone they let me have a little scan picture for free as my partner couldn't be there - that cheered him up a little bit

lockdownpregnancy · 22/04/2020 09:22

I was categorically told no phones in the scan, despite my DH not being allowed in. My hospital charge for scan photos (£10 each 😳) but given these strange times, they are giving them out for free and so I ended up with 4 scan photos.
He won't be able to come in with you to speak with the doctor too, if you are seeing one.
I was devastated my DH couldn't come in, but fingers crossed they can for our 20 week scans🤞🤞

Bert2020 · 22/04/2020 09:24

I was allowed to take a photo at the end, ours doesn’t print at all. No phones as the staff need to concentrate.

Ginntoniconpause · 22/04/2020 09:27

I also have my scan on Monday! Good luck OP.

JC084 · 22/04/2020 09:30

There were signs all over ours saying no photos, no calls, no videos.
I also still had to pay for my photos (£5 each), so it just really depends on the hospital I think

beelzeboob · 22/04/2020 09:32

Really sorry OP but it’s highly unlikely you’ll be allowed to video call. As blunt as it sounds, it’s a medical assessment.
Sorry I know it’s hard

Ginfilledcats · 22/04/2020 09:34

No phones I'm afraid, sonographer needs to concentrate and have low lighting. Also it's a governance risk. It's a real shame but you'll be ok and can come home and coo over the beautiful little bean together!

2020Aug · 22/04/2020 09:35

I wasn't allowed to video in my hospital and also paid for photos. Good luck.

babbaganoush · 22/04/2020 09:36

I had my 20 week scan last week. No-one was allowed in with me and I wasn’t allowed to video it or take any photos. I was given about 15 photos for free though. We chose to find out the sex and so I asked the sonographer to write it on some paper in an envelope so we could find out together once I got home.

This has been withdrawn by MNHQ.

Alright so sounds like a definite no :( a real shame! Hopefully he will be able to see the 20 week one live. I feel like it would make the whole pregnancy a bit more 'real' for him

You could always pay for a scan privately , I know my local “window to the womb” are still allowing partners

fool11 · 22/04/2020 10:54

our hospital let us take a short video for our DD, but after they've done all the measurements. we asked the sonographer if she could just hear the heartbeat for a few second and see baby moving and they were happy to do that..you can only ask..also in line with the GDPR you can request a copy of your ultrasound scan images, free of charge, from your hospital, they have to email/provide it to you within 30days (legal timescale)..there should be some details in your hospital, you will have to do it in writing..should be able to send an email to the medical records department or something similar.

whistler2020 · 22/04/2020 10:56

My trust allowed me to take videos or video chat once they had done the measurements! We decided on a video as we can look back on it, and I also had the option to buy scan photos I think i paid £5 for 2 photos xx

bee222 · 22/04/2020 11:58

I think it varies between trust. My trust (Nottingham) have put on their Corona maternity Q&A that no photos or videos are allowed to be taken in the scan room.

Blurby · 22/04/2020 12:42

I didn't know you had to pay for scan photos. Is it a new thing?

Lozziiee8993 · 22/04/2020 15:27

I personally paid for a private scan. I went with window to womb. As it's my husband and I's first pregnancy/baby I wanted him to be there. I have to say the experience privately was far better than with the nhs one. Given current circumstances.

Saying that, my husband had to wait in the car. I was given 4 pictures for free, when I went on Tuesday. However, they were more blurry than the private pictures.

Again, I think I would go private for my 20 week scan.

N12345625 · 22/04/2020 15:35

Just a random question. How did you know your partner wasn't allowed at the scan? I am in the East Midlands and have my 12 week scan on Tuesday... But haven't been told via post or text that it is without partners??

MarshmallowsOnToast · 22/04/2020 15:40

@N12345625

Which hospital?

I had a scan at Nottingham City and was allowed my partner in the room. This was 4 weeks ago.

RyanStartedTheFire · 22/04/2020 15:43

Our trust (Wye Valley) is allowing facetime during scans.

lastonetime · 22/04/2020 15:45

@N12345625
I had my 12 week can on May 25th and they hadn't changed it to no partners yet, but because of the lock down and the nursery's had closed DH couldn't come, so I did have to go on my own
They called the day before to check that no one in the house had symptoms and remind us about no children, so imagine they will advise you during that call if they haven't already told you

I have my 20 week scan on the 12th and don't imagine he will be able to come to that scan either

BuffaloCauliflower · 22/04/2020 15:46

OP can you book a private scan? I had an early reassurance scan at Window to the Womb today at 10 weeks and DH was allowed to come in, it’s one of the main reasons we did it. It was great that he could see it there and see the heartbeat together for the first time, and really helped my anxiety having him there

Hatscats · 22/04/2020 17:15

I text him while I was in the room so he knew things were ok as soon as I knew. Also got 4 pictures for free!
Car parking was free too, so he just waited in the car.
