Getting pregnant after 35

For those who had their babies after 35 how long did it take?

Does fertility decrease dramatically after 35 or is the risk overblown and mostly media scaremongering?

Took me 2 months at 34, had a miscarriage. Took another 2 months to get pregnant with DD.

DC 2: took me nearly a year at 37

DC 3: Tried at 38 as thought would take a long time, took 1 month!

It varies and does decline with age, and falls off a cliff after 40.

I conceived easily at 40, had two miscarriages and the baby daughter.

Tried again at 42, conceived easily but miscarried. Then took 10 months to conceive again but was prob actually having early losses. I looked into ivf and at 43 it's a 4% live birth rate, from any pregnancy it's a 50% miscarriage rate at 43. I did get pregnant eventually but have miscarried. Am just too old. There are exceptions and people that get lucky but there are others going through loss and heartbreak.

First month trying. Then miscarried and has taken me two cycles to conceive again. Doesn't seem to be difficult to get pregnant. Not sure about egg quality and viability yet

triedandtestedteacher · 21/04/2020 17:02

To add. I'm 35. I did use a digital ovulation kit because I'm impatient lol

RatherBeRiding · 21/04/2020 17:05

First pregnancy at 35, conceived straightaway. Second DC started trying 9 months after first child, took 18 months of trying and finally conceived aged 38.

Mucklowe · 21/04/2020 17:09

I conceived at nearly 39, on the seventh month of trying.

bookish83 · 21/04/2020 17:20

8 months. Conceived a few months before I turned 36.

Used ovulation tests and coincidence or not, conceived the month after paying fir a private hycosy procedure. I think I was impatient as I had no issues at all.

I just got worried about age I guess x

Cahu58 · 21/04/2020 17:22

2nd month is trying... second baby at 38

Emeeno1 · 21/04/2020 17:32

I have been more fertile in my forties than any other decade experincing three pregnancies.

LolaLollypop · 21/04/2020 17:35

Gel pregnant with mine at 34 and 37. With DC2 it was only one month after stopping the pill so no problem with age for me.

Chooklass · 21/04/2020 17:40

It's hugely variable. I'm 38 and finally pregnant after 3 years of trying. Good luck 😊

lalachicky · 21/04/2020 17:58

It does seem that more conceive fairly easily/quickly than not which is reassuring. Lots of people I know having babies late 30s and some early 40s.

Of course it's impossible to say until trying and there are two people involved in the process.

lalachicky · 21/04/2020 17:58

I had mine at 35

MichelleOR84 · 21/04/2020 19:36

Age 33: took 3-4 months of casually trying
Age 35: took one month of casually trying

🤷‍♀️

Hodge85 · 21/04/2020 19:51

I'm 35 now (it was my birthday last month) fell pregnant last September within the first week of trying. I feel extremely lucky due to thyroid issues I've had over the years as well x

Lilice · 21/04/2020 22:25

Conceived first try with baby 1 and baby 2, at 30 and 32 years old. It took 6 cycles for baby 3 at 36 years old.

bee222 · 22/04/2020 08:57

I got pregnant first time trying at 37. Second time trying at 38. I miscarried both of those but my consultant said it had absolutely nothing to do with my age. She also rolled her eyes (she is a very straight talking no nonsense Dr) when I asked about it and said something along the lines of “women have been having babies well into their 40s for years - you are fine”
I’m 39 next month. I’m pregnant again and it took 4 cycles.

BooMamaBear · 23/04/2020 14:33

I got pregnant a week after my 35th birthday it was our 1st cycle of TTC I'm currently almost 16w a lot of my NCT group were 35 when they had their first and 5 of them had 2nd babies at 37 -your fertility doesn't just drop off when you hit 35 it depends a bit on your hormones too! Xx

LTofBR3 · 23/04/2020 14:37

For me, 2nd month of trying/having the implant removed at age 35.

WorriedButterfly · 23/04/2020 14:40

Hey OP - please bear in mind if you'd posted this on the infertility board you'd be getting very different answers. As someone else said it is a gamble as you whether you're one of the lucky ones.

Noodlenosefraggle · 23/04/2020 14:45

Second cycle 3 times at 35 37 and 40 ( this ended in mc and didnt try again)

KnobwithaK · 23/04/2020 14:50

1st month of trying (sadly ended in miscarriage), then 2nd month of trying (now 26 weeks so).

I don't think fertility "drops off a cliff" but if something goes wrong or there is a problem you're obviously left with less time to sort it out, so it is a risk.

FriedasCarLoad · 23/04/2020 14:51

DC1 conceived first month of trying, when I was 37.

DC2, when I was 39, took 6 months to conceive, but I think it's no coincidence that I conceived immediately I stopped breastfeeding.

Very few of my friends struggled to conceive aged 30-35, most getting pregnant within a month or two.

Aged 35-40, many took quite a few months to conceive and some really struggled.

Agreed 40+ most took months and a far higher proportion needed IVF.

The real biggest heart break has been for those who were happily settled with partners by their mid 30s and put off trying, then found they'd left it too late. The "if only" seems to be harder for them than for those who didn't choose to delay.

PrinnyPree · 23/04/2020 15:20

Hi I'm 37 had a chemical on cycle 3 (which was my 37th birthday) but then got pregnant again the cycle after, now 36 weeks. :)

EL8888 · 23/04/2020 15:27

Started trying nearly 2 years ago when l was 38, nothing so far. Had no tests and no issues found. Did IVF and that didn’t work either
