Hi
I've been reading mix message, are baby wipes like water wipes ok to use on a newborn, I've read they are and then I've read baby wipes are not recommended for newborns ? Just wondering if anyone used baby wipes on there new born or if most people stuck to cotton wool, also if you didn't use baby wipes on newborn when did you start to use them ?

I used water wipes on my newborn and never had an issue but each to their own.

I've always found waterwipes way too wet, not worth the hype. The amazon brand baby wipes are much better and also biodegradable etc. And cheaper!
We used cotton wool for the first week and a bit and slowly used wipes a bit more. His little bum seemed too precious for wipes at first!

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 18/04/2020 11:33

We just use wet cloths

pinkpinecone · 18/04/2020 11:35

I used cotton wool and water to start with maybe for the first few weeks (can't remember exactly) then moved over to water wipes. They're expensive as they don't contain any chemicals and are very different from normal baby wipes.

Something to add re the cotton wool make sure you get thick good quality stuff or it'll fall apart and leave fluff all over the baby's bum.

We’ll be using reusable cloths, and cloth nappies

OccasionalNachos · 18/04/2020 11:36

I used wipes (waterwipes, Mamia sensitive wipes & washable cloths) as soon as I was out of hospital. Cotton wool is a faff, the pads are fine but balls & pleats are annoying.

Obviously if your baby starts to show signs of sensitivity then consider using water & cotton wool.

We used pampers new baby sensitive. Wouldn't be bothered with cotton wool, wipes are so much easier

dannydyerismydad · 18/04/2020 11:38

I switched to washable wipes when DS was about 6 months old. Honestly, I wish I'd used them from birth.

Cloth wipes pick up so much more and clean so much better. Disposable wipes seem to move the poo around 😂

amymel2016 · 18/04/2020 11:40

We used water wipes from newborn for my DS and will be doing so for the second baby. The midwives in hospital said not to bother with cotton wool and just use the wipes.

FurryCat1978 · 18/04/2020 11:41

Get yourself some “cheeky wipes” and save yourself a fortune. Still using them here 5 years later 😃

RainbowFlowers · 18/04/2020 11:45

I used cotton wool in the day and normal wipes in the night. His skin was fine. If he got nappy rash then I would have switched to cotton wool only but he didn't.

decisionsdecision · 18/04/2020 11:50

We have always used pampers sensitive since birth. Never had any issues

rottiemum88 · 18/04/2020 11:51

Used standard (sensitive) baby wipes on DS from newborn, just couldn't get on with water wipes as they were way too wet. DS has quite sensitive skin in other ways, but never had any issues due to the wipes

TheVanguardSix · 18/04/2020 11:52

Cheeky Wipes were the best thing I ever used.

nicky7654 · 18/04/2020 11:52

I only ever used baby lotion and cotton wool on all 3 of mine. Works a treat.

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 18/04/2020 11:56

Cheeky wipes all the way. Soooooo much better for poo.

firstimemamma · 18/04/2020 11:59

Although technically water wipes are fine from birth, we never used them as we personally didn't think a cold wipe of any kind would feel very nice for the newborn baby. We used cotton wool and warm water which we felt was best. Each to their own.

We use cheeky wipes now in order to do our bit to reduce our plastic waste and they are brilliant. Much better than single-use wipes imo. Smile

auntienameyname · 18/04/2020 12:05

We used huggies water wipes, about £10 a box.

Ive found my girl never got nappy rash with these as they are pure! For newborn bottoms id always rather pay a bit more because cheap ones make their skin so sore!! 😊

Dinosauraddict · 18/04/2020 12:06

We use water wipes and have since birth - they were the ones our midwife recommended during pregnancy.

tomatoesandstew · 18/04/2020 12:08

I used those water wipes but my baby kept getting nappy rash so we went to cotton wool. We would still use baby wipes when we're out and about though.

crustycrab · 18/04/2020 12:10

The Huggies ones are shite.

vdbfamily · 18/04/2020 12:12

I agree cheeky wipes. We use them as washable toilet paper as adults but wish I had known about them when I was using washable nappies.

thunderthighsohwoe · 18/04/2020 12:14

Cheeky wipes were the best thing I’ve ever bought. Wish we’d used them from the start, soooo much easier.

We use regular baby wipes when out and about, had Water Wipes from birth which were fine but not a patch on Cheeky Wipes.

Cotton wool and water is like trying to mop up a spilt cup of tea with a hairbrush.

SerBrienneOfHouseTarth · 18/04/2020 12:17

We used baby wipes from birth too with no issues then switched to reusable ones after a few weeks. I agree with others they they are far superior to disposable wipes and would recommend them.
We used Grovia ones which were fab, nice and thick, and Bambino Mio ones which were far too thin and flimsy. I have ordered Cheeky Wipes to replace the Bambino Mios for DC2. We used different colours as our 'system' was white wipes for bums and coloured wipes for face and hands! 😁

Tootletum · 18/04/2020 12:18

Vote for water wipes here. First baby I tagged about with the cotton wool. Bulk bought water wipes for the other two, much easier and I like that they're quite wet.
